As part of a super special series, I will be doing rewinding the clock and reflecting on the years that have passed by focusing on certain aspects that have defined KPOP. All will make sense once I reach the end of this series.
One of the most visual aspects of KPOP is the music video. Over the years, we have seen a lot of amazing music videos, with a lot of them featuring amazing sets, vivid concepts and cinematic quality storylines. When you look at a lot of videos (especially some of the ones featured below), you can tell that a lot of effort and planning has been put into such videos. Sometimes budgets can exceed millions of dollars in some cases and complex stories covered by multiple videos and comebacks. In this post, I look over the music videos that you and I have picked as the best music videos.
Between 2017 to 2020, the music video in the header text were selected as the Best Music Video by you through the yearly KPOPREVIEWED Awards, while the music videos in the header text from 2016 and earlier were chosen by me (as back then, only I determined the winners of Best Music Video categories). Under each header, I have also listed one or two extra music videos that were also considered notable, as this was also determined by you or me in relevant years.

Funny, I quite despise Gee and Mirotic’s MV, they are quite distracting to the actual song lol. Agree quite a bit with your other picks too.
Particularly Skydive and Haru Haru. I love story MVs, while I think you prefer the visual aspect. Nonetheless, even I can appreciate GR8U’s backward MV.
Just a question, I think you had mentioned last year in a reply to me that Voodoo Doll was your favorite MV. I guess it fell a lot haha. I prefer GR8U to it, so I am certainly not complaining lol

It is a balancing act. Get me something cinematic quality and with amazing visuals and I will gladly watch it. (For example, the Avatar movie – The blue alien movie, not the crappy Airbender live action adaptation.)
Nope, Voodoo Doll has not fallen down the list. The 2013 awards was based on who I believed was worthy. I only allowed each artist to have one entry into each category back then. And I picked VIXX’s G.R.8.U as their only entry in the MV category due to its uniqueness. And I ended up selecting it as Best Music Video for 2013 for the same reason.
But Voodoo Doll will always have a special place in my heart (I am a twisted person hahaha…). Over the years, it maintains its impact and is one of the most memorable MVs of all time for me, just because they went straight for the dark/horror concept with it. And being someone who loves that concept and genre, I am all for it!
