Trap – Henry (Super Junior M) ft. Kyuhyun (Super Junior) & Taemin (SHINee)

Source: http://smindotown.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/henrylau2.jpg

Henry was recently unveiled as the newest solo artist of SM Entertainment, releasing his first mini album on June the 7th of 2013. SM Entertainment released some “teaser” images that seem quite abnormal. A body full of tattoos, to me, turns me away from people. Literally, if I were to see someone on the streets, I would literally turn away and walk. But I hardly doubt anyone would walk around shirtless with colourful tattoos on the streets, not my neighbourhood though. The whole idea of Henry having a solo debut is being solo. However SM Entertainment brings in Taemin and Kyuhyun and then dominates the second half of the song. Disappointment.

This song is much better than Wolf. I am glad that this song came back, because I don’t think I have ever been pleased with an SM song (since the start of the year) but SM has had a long run of unlikeable songs. I love the piano feel of the song, which makes it unique and different to other songs with that electronic beat that I have been reviewing, like Want U Back (Review Here) by 100%. It gives off that dramatic feel to the song, which is really great. I never knew Henry can vocalise like that. His voice can actually hit pretty high notes and I love how he changes the tone of his voice, to give off that nice , polished feel of the song. Overall, I liked Kyuhyun’s addition to the song, which makes it more profession. I am not as impressed with Taemin’s part, but it still fits in with the song. However, the featuring artist does make the song feel a bit choppy and whatnot. But I am more impressed with this song than EXO’s Wolf (Review Here), so YAY!!!

The music video is quite confusing. However, aside from that this is the first time where the box set of the music video made sense with the title of the song. A guy, going insane, trapped in a room with no roof with only a piano. He was trapped by this evil girlfriend and towards the end after making friends with a bunch of dancers and two other singers, he managed to find his way out of the room. In style, the first thing he does after escaping, was drive a luxury car and buy a suit. Great, you’re halfway there to escaping, but at least you are getting as far away as possible. However, word of advice, use the door more next time or grab that hair or an object in the room and mash open the window. You did not have to stay in that room for that long. Unless, the girlfriend only trapped him for less than a day. In other words, drama queen.

The dance i pretty cool. I never thought stepping on a piano will be that good looking. Also, like the use of handkerchiefs in the dance. Adds more masculinity to the video, I think. Just don’t dance shirtless, with tattoos over your body. You don’t look cool or great.

7.5/10. Henry’s debut is daebak (Awesome in Korean). Woot!

SPY – Super Junior

Source: http://www.allkpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/120811_superjunior_spy_1-600×400.jpg

This was Super Junior’s repackaged album/single that was released a long time ago. Like seriously, you know that old song called Sexy Free & Single? Okay, so yeah, it has been a long time, but I have been lacking in the amount of reviews. But hey, the summer holidays are 3 weeks away for me, and I am ready to sit down and type up a whole heap of reviews just for you guys! Now onto the review, that was meant to be done ages ago!

The song is quite deceiving. As soon as I saw the spy concept of the song, I thought the song would be something alongside of Hoot by SNSD or something like James Bond. But boy, was I surprised with something that seemed quite childish. It is not the best Super Junior song out there and to me, it happens to be one the of worst songs ever by Super Junior. It just did not fit the image which Super Junior has, and after releasing a song that was pretty damn good, I was really disappointed. It showcased a weird side in Super Junior’s vocals and raps. The only thing I am happy with is that mostly everyone got some part in the song to sing, regardless if they were an A Grade singer or A Grade rapper. Though, I still think the song depends too much on Kyuhyun and Donghae. I don’t know if they stand out to me, but the other members don’t really have a place to shine. The instrumental just was not right and really high pitch is something Super Junior should not attempt at all.

Okay, onto the music video. It is definitely a rip of James Bond, with the multiple CG effects and also the really annoying slow motion cameras. It makes James Bond look really good, and I really hate the James Bond movie franchise. They are all Spy like which is good, but seriously, going underneath ladies legs really is not the best thing to do. Like come on, it is not meant to be some erotic story. It is like the sequel of the computer effects we had in A-Cha last year. The really big set seemed okay, but the small set seemed quite fake and really, not a high quality Super Junior music video we should’ve gotten.

The dance reflects the song quite well. I really like the chorography at rap sequence and the dance does mimic spy movements and guns like this. So criticisms here.

Ah wow. I think, that this should never be attempted ever again. One of the worst songs by Super Junior to date at this very moment. 5.33/10,

Have Fun Watching! 😀

Sexy, Free & Single – Super Junior

Song

Let’s get something straight forward. I like this song much more than Mr. Simple and A-Cha. This song is like the times better than the last two promoted songs.

Anyway, this song totally rocks. The beat is quite good and I found it quite easy to get into it. I really like the vocals in this song, particularly Yesung and Kyuhyun’s voice cause they stood out the most. I am not sure about the rap of the song. Was there a rap? I’m can’t decide if the song actually had a rap in it. Half of me yes, the other half is not.

I really like the chorus of the song where the instrumental is like hands clapping and they are singing “Sexy, Free, Single”. It is quite unique.

Some points that I hated, was in fact the start of the song. Really did not flow with the rest of the song, though it did somehow connect with the actual song. Also, “Sexy, Free & Single. I’m ready to bingo” makes no sense what so ever.  The actual lyrics were “Sexy Free & Single. I’m Ready too, Bingo.” which does kind of make sense but all I hear is  “Sexy, Free & Single. I’m ready to bingo“.

Music Video

Another letdown. Another boring room with boring things in it. It looks tall at least. Reports said that matrix cameras were used in the filming of this music video. It is true that they did use the camera but in an awful manner. The ending was quite terrible (where the matrix cameras were used).

And how many costume changes did these guys go through? At one point Sungmin had a scarf on. Then Kyuhyun’s close-up, and then poof it was gone. And those terrible costumes for the close up shots. No, I don’t want to see people half-naked, where their necks are covered, to the point where talking in those looks really uncomfortable.

Live Performance

The dance is very unique. Just it really does not really have any match to the title of the song. Sexy is portrayed through the clothing and costumes of the singers, but where does the free & single part come into the dance. There was not much proof as well in the music video for the same reason. But beside that the dance for this song, really matched the beat of the song.

And The Rating?

I’d give this song a 9/10. I am quite happy with this song,as they really had really bad songs last year.  But are you already to bingo?

Have Fun Watching. 😀 Troy

Opera – Super Junior (Japanese Version)

Song

To be honest, I really do not like the original (Korean version) of this song. I found it weird and really awkward. The Japanese version, on the other hand, sounds tens time better. The song flows like a waterfall. There is just thing, maybe with the start of the song (you know the electro beat) just did not to me. I dunno. While I do find the Japanese version much better, I feel like the vocals in the songs are being held back. I have to say that Mr. Simple and A – Cha sounds much better. The bridge of the song here really does not sound that great, considering that I really dislike Mr. Simple and only just liking A Cha.

I find that the song’s instrumental sounds a bit off, as it is pretty fast at the start and at the bridge it just comes to a halt. I find that weird and kind of unnatural. Just thinking while typing this review up, but I actually don’t like the instrumental of the song. Its not Super Junior’s flow or beat which I really like about them. This is too electro. I prefer Mr. Simple’s instrumental or Sorry Sorry. Hmmm….

Music Video

Okay, this music video has a dark concept, like Phantom of the Opera. I am a big fan of the musical and a rock song of the same title, if I am not mistaken, but this music video kind of confuses me. There are 9 perfectly dressed guys, holding masks and dancing in an abandoned lobby?  Seriously I prefer the masks stuck on the face or not even used, not waved around in some of those solo shots in the video. Oh and how SM used the video effects of this video really gives me the shivers. Okay you made 9 guys appear one by one. Then you make them disappear and then reappear. And the process goes on. Seriously, first it was the 360 camera, now effects that have overused. Please don’t make me feel bored of fireworks in your next concept for any of the singers.

Live Performance

I am not aware of any live performances of the Japanese Version of this song. There is a Korean one where they performed this at SS5 or was it SS4. I lost track of their concert. So many concerts.

And the Rating?

I would personally give this song a 5/10. What happened to Super Junior? I used to like their songs but some of the rookie groups are overtaking Super Junior now.

Perfection – Super Junior M (Korean/Chinese Ver)

Song

Don’t you love it when there are two versions of the same song, just in two different languages and both are released around the same time. Life is like this. Its great that SM Ent. is expanding into overseas countries, but I think its time to go back  to Korea and restart some of your bands activities. Yeah, no offence but I think bands like Super Junior and SNSD are getting old and might soon need replacing. (I don’t want to die D: )

Anyway, I like both versions of the song. This may be alarming, but I am half Chinese and yet I don’t understand the Chinese Version of the song (I don’t know any Chinese). But, still they are good songs. They have this catchy beat to them that sounds really good. This song depicts how the perfect lady should be. Is it me or Kyuhyun gets the most lines in the song? He sings like what? 50 % of the song while the others have to split the other half evenly? I also like Zhou Mi’s part of the song. For me, it is the highlight of the song.

Music Video

Okay, another one of those music videos that have no plot what so ever but only cool dance moves and close ups so close, that we can see up their noses. Only Joking, they are not that close. Only two things to comment about, SM’s 360 degree camera and those fur hats. Lets just hope no animals were killed in the making of the video for the fur hats. That would be sad.

Live Performance

I’m not sure of the live performances. I mean they are just the dance. Only the dance.

Oh but also, I always find Super Junior full band or sub-units are good at singing live. Hey I’ve got to write something at least you know…

And The Rating?

I would give this song a 7.83/10.

Have Fun Watching. Troy 😀

Chinese Version of Perfection

Korean Version of Perfection

Mr. Simple – Super Junior

Song

The song was a letdown to me. At first I was very excited as Super Junior made great songs and since they had some time off, I thought they had improved their skills. However, I found that the song did nothing and I was very disappointed. The song is kind of an electro pop. Yes, I said kind of. You can that or argue with me but there were times which transformed into a dance track and into an original pop song. There was too much change which kind of put me off.

English

Don’t know what to say. “Because your naughty naughty. “ Come on!!!

MV

Their fashion was alright. Normal clothing with nice shoes. It could be considered as casual clothing. However when it came to the individual shots, why are ropes around the singers neck? That doesn’t really sound “normal” to me. Come on, as if you are going to on the streets with rope hanging around your neck. It isn’t right. I was expecting something more like from the teaser. Something out there and different from what they done and the others have done. Also the setting could have been improved on. LOSE THE BOX CONCEPT!!!

Live Performance

The dance for this song is very very very hard. Now , I am not saying this because I tried it (I did not) but the fact they have 12 people on stage at once dancing. It can be confusing when you are focusing on 1 person. They’re walking to the other side of the stage and going back. LOL.

And Rating?

Again I am disappointed in this music video. It doesn’t work out for me. Even those hardcore fans were disappointed themselves.  To rate I would give a 5/10. I am sure Super Junior can do better then this.

Have Fun Watching. Troy 🙂
