[Weekly KPOP Chart] 4th Week of June 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post. It is another late night post, so it is going to be a quick one so I can head off to bed for hopefully a less busy week. Not much else to update you on. So I am going to get right into the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 4th Week of June 2024.

Non-Korean Song of the Week

As my focus on this blog is primarily on KPOP songs, I draw attention to a particular song that isn’t in the Korean language in this part of the Weekly KPOP Chart post. That song is the top ranking non-Korean song on each Weekly KPOP Chart post. The past week’s non-Korean song of the week, once again (for the 7th week) is Stray Kids’ Lose My Breath (ft. Charlie Puth). It ranks in the 3rd position this week.

The Charts

TWS’ If I’m S, Can You Be My N? is the top song for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 4th Week of June 2024. Congratulations to TWS!

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 3rd Week of June 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post. Once again, apologies for the later than usual post. Not much to update you on, other than it has been on long week and I am still recovering from it. So I am going to get right into the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of June 2024.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week, Jung Kook’s Never Let Go, ranks in the 15th position this week.

The Charts

NAYEON’s ABCD is the top song for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of June 2024. Congratulations to NAYEON!

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 2nd Week of June 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post. Apologies for the later than usual post. Things got a little busier than usual today. As such, I have decided to remove the ‘Throwback Song’ segment from this week’s post to help speed things up on my end, as it is very late and I need to go to sleep for work tomorrow after posting this post. I have also pushed (G)I-DLE’s album review, which was to be published this weekend, to later in this upcoming week. It has been drafted, but in a Word document and not on WordPress’ editor for publishing. And of course, more song reviews this week. Until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 2nd Week of June 2024.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is, for the sixth week in a row now, Stray Kids’ Lose My Breath (featuring Charlie Puth) and ranks in the 9th position this week. I have linked the Stray Kids version down below.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 1st Week of June 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post. A decrease in coverage this week – only three song reviews and an album review since the last Weekly KPOP Charts. This upcoming week promises songs from INFINITE, cignature, EVERGLOW, CSR, SUPER JUNIOR, Candy Shop, SUNMI, NAYEON (from TWICE) and more. We are also going to hear WEKI MEKI’s final release before their disbandment 😦 . That I will make sure to review as soon as it out. Per usual, you will have to wait to see who else I can get around to covering in the new week. Until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of June 2024.

Throwback Song of the Week

Each week I pick a song from the past to feature in this segment. It is recognition for the fact I listen to more than just the currently charting songs. And revisiting these songs are truly a blast from the past. Plus, I am hoping that this segment introduces new listeners to some great songs that I have enjoyed from my many years of listening to KPOP.

Another 2NE1 centric week for me with FALLING IN LOVE being the throwback song of choice this week!

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is, for the fourth week in a row now, Stray Kids’ Lose My Breath (featuring Charlie Puth) and ranks in the 1st position this week.

The Charts

In addition to being the top non-Korean song of the week, Stray Kids’ Lose My Breath (ft. Charlie Puth) is also the top song for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of June 2024. Congratulations to Stray Kids.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 5th Week of May 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post. Another uptick in the coverage this week – 6 songs and 1 album were reviewed since the last Weekly KPOP Charts. This coming week will new songs and album releases by WayV, Kep1er, BADVILLAIN, Han Seungwoo, TWS, GHOST9, ONE PACT, NCT DREAM, CRAVITY and more. Per usual, you will have to wait to see who I can get around to covering in the new week. Until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 5th Week of May 2024.

KISS OF LIFE’s cover of Brown Eyed Girls’ Sixth Sense (and a rewatch of LOVELYZ’s cover of the same song) have made the epic song this week’s throwback song of the week.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is, for the third week in a row, Stray Kids’ Lose My Breath. It features Charlie Puth and ranks in the 7th position this week. Once again, I have posted the Stray Kids version of the song down below.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 4th Week of May 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post – this time for the 4th Week of May 2024. Still no luck on coverage of new KPOP tracks. There was a slight uptick with four song reviews this past week. Two album reviews were also posted this week. I have a public holiday tomorrow, so I am hoping to get some reviews prepared ahead of time. This coming week sees new songs and album releases by aespa, CHEN (from EXO), TREASURE, Yves, ARTMS, ATREEZ and SUHO (from EXO). Per usual, you will have to wait to see who I cover in the new week. Until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 4th Week of May 2024.

With 2NE1 reuniting in a photo for their 15th year anniversary, and rumours of a meeting between CL and YG Entertainment for perhaps something more for the occasion, I went on a 2NE1 binge. As a result, 2013’s Missing You is my pick for this week’s throwback song.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is, for the third week in a row, Stray Kids’ Lose My Breath. [Weekly KPOP Chart] 3rd Week of May 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post – this time for the 3rd Week of May 2024. Still no luck on coverage of new KPOP tracks. Just three reviews this past week. Let’s hope I am more productive during this new week. This coming week sees comebacks from NewJeans, RM (from BTS), XG, MCND, JUST B, ONEUS, SOOJIN and more. Per usual, you will have to wait to see who I cover in the new week – until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of May 2024.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 2nd Week of May 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post – this time for the 2nd Week of May 2024. Still no luck on coverage of new KPOP tracks. Just four reviews this week – one of which at the start of the week and the rest all posted yesterday. Again, I am hoping to be more productive week on the blog from tomorrow. Let’s see how I go. This coming week promises comebacks from ZEROBASEONE, aespa, ENHYPEN, Mark (from NCT), DXMON, ITZY and more. Per usual, you will have to wait to see who I cover in the new week – until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 2nd Week of May 2024.

This week is a song that I forgot about for a while (despite it being featured in this segment before). But it randomly appeared in my mind this week and I had to relive it! The song is titled Dreamer, which was HISTORY’s debut track from 2013. The track and music video features IU.

As my focus on this blog is primarily on KPOP songs, I draw attention to a particular song that isn’t in the Korean language in this part of the Weekly KPOP Chart post. That song is the top ranking non-Korean song on each Weekly KPOP Chart post. The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is Stray Kids’ fresh new release Lose My Breath, which features Charlie Puth. [Weekly KPOP Chart] 1st Week of May 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post for the 1st Week of May 2024. It was another standard week. Lots of releases (as mentioned last week) and I didn’t cover much of it – just what I perceived to be the big releases. Hopefully I have better luck this coming week, which promises comebacks and debuts from Doh Kyung Soo (D.O from EXO), KIM JAE HWAN, BM (from KARD), Kep1er, tripleS, Yook Sung Jae (from BTOB), Stray Kids and so much more. Per usual, you will have to wait to see who I cover in the new week – until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of May 2024.

Following the theme of hitting hard as per the last few weeks, the song that did it for me this week is SECRET’s Love is MOVE from 2011.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is YUQI’s FREAK. It ranks in the 8th position this week.

The Charts

SOLAR from MAMAMOO and her solo comeback single But I are the top artist and song for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of May 2024. This one surprised me a bit, as I was expecting IVE or SEVENTEEN to emerge as the top artist with their songs. But nonetheless, congratulations to Solar and But I!

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post for the 4th Week of April 2024. I managed to publish one extra review then usual this week. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it is still something. The upcoming week is looking to be jam packed with multiple new releases from SEVENTEEN, IVE, SOLAR (from MAMAMOO), Xdinary Heroes, YOUNITE, The KingDom (formerly KINGDOM), HYUNA and a whole heap more. I am hoping to cover as much as I can this week. But as previous similar posts, all of that will come once I post the Weekly KPOP Charts for this past week.

Following the theme of hitting hard as per the last few weeks, the song that did it for me this week is KARA’s Mamma Mia from 2014.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is V’s FRI(END)S, which I am hoping to review sometime in the near future. It ranks in the 11th position this week.

The Charts

DOYOUNG’s official solo debut single Little Light is the top song for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 4th Week of April 2024. Congratulations!

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 3rd Week of April 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post – this time for the 3rd Week of April 2024. Work once again took over the last week, so I over-promised and under-delivered once again. There is an upcoming public holiday this week, so I am hoping to use that to catch up on some reviews. This is in addition to the album review I will be posting later today and also the usual few songs reviews I do during the week. While you wait for those reviews, here is the Weekly KPOP Chart post for 3rd Week of April 2024.

Another song that hit hard this week for me was AILEE’s Room Shaker, which I had featured in this segment previously.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is ATEEZ’s NOT OKAY. It ranks in the 6th position this week.

The Charts

Congratulations to ONF and their latest single Bye My Monster for remaining in the top spot of the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of April 2024 and for the second week in a row.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 2nd Week of April 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post – this time for the 2nd Week of April 2024. Work took over last week, so I couldn’t get as much out. And I have a feeling that my work might take over my life this week, so I am looking to draft some reviews to be on hand should I need a or a few early nights to recuperate. Plus, I have plans today for another album review and to begin drafting one addition album review for a 2023 album before moving onto the very long list of 2024 albums I want to review. So a lot of work for me. In the meanwhile, here is the Weekly KPOP Chart post for 2nd Week of April 2024.

I listened to many good yet oldies this week to get through my work. A few hit hard, but nothing got many repeat as B1A4’s debut single O.K.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is ZEROBASEONE’s YURA YURA. It ranks in the 17th position this week.

The Charts

Congratulations to ONF and their latest single Bye My Monster for debuting in the top spot for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 2nd Week of April 2024. This felt very expected, given how much I enjoyed the song from the moment I first listened to it at the start of the week.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 1st Week of April 2024

Welcome back to another Weekly KPOP Chart post – this time for the 1st Week of April 2024. How is it already April? There isn’t much to update on today aside from the fact that song and album reviews are on the card for later today and this week. Maybe a few reviews for some ‘older releases’ are in the mix for later this week. I will see how much energy I have after work. But while you await for the next review, here are the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of April 2024.

The throwback song for this past week is SNSD’s PARTY (from 2015).

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week, for the second week in a row, is MAX and HUH JUNJIN’s (from LE SSERAFIM) STUPID IN LOVE. It ranks in the second position this week.

The Charts

Congratulations to TXT and their latest single Deja Vu for debuting in the top spot for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of April 2024.

[Review] SHEESH – BABYMONSTER

That time machine I have been using the last few days has just enough juice to take me back to the present day, in time for my return to the blog. So, I will be relieving the time machine for a bit of a recharge and focus on more recent releases. And there are a few to choose from, so I am just going with the first release of the week – BABYMONSTER’s SHEESH. The new single from the new group follows on from their debut with BATTER UP and the all-English pre-release Stuck In The Middle (which I have yet to review). SHEESH also marks the debut of member Ahyeon, who sat out of BABYMONSTER’s debut and subsequent release due to health reasons.

SHEESH‘s title says it all for me. If I could end the review there (I technically can), I would leave it there and call it a day. No matter how many times I have replayed SHEESH, I cannot get over the strikingly awful hook that makes up the chorus of the song, It was quite grating to listen to each time and I cannot fathom why the producers thought it would be a good statement piece. Granted, I assume the attitude loaded nature of BABYMONSTER’9 delivery was what they were going towards. This chorus disappoints further when I consider the opening verse, which is where I thought YG Entertainment was finally doing something a little different for once thanks to the presence of the spooky piano. Long behold, the company didn’t. They went right for the same overdone formula they have constructed most (if not all) their releases with. The rapping in the second verse was fine, but I wished the backing was a bit more innovative and did not make the members/SHEESH sound like they were (once again) rehashing the same formula. The bridge held some promise thanks to the return of the spooky-esque piano, but this was shortlived with the subsequent sequence/outro. The producers thought they were doing some different with SHEESH. But in between the marching band, the whispery chant and probably the worst anthem outro to date, this all goes back to that predictable formula that YG is so insistent on using. There are times when the formula can be exciting, as demonstrated by TREASURE with JIKJIN. But in SHEESH, it felt tiring and overdone.

While I am usually impressed with the music video that YG Entertainment puts out, SHEESH (the song) puts me into the mindset that we have seen everything before. For the most part, the video doesn’t feel like it does anything new and feels like a rehash of the music videos that YG usually releases, particularly from BLACKPINK. However, I will give points on the fact that the music video sets did conform to the more spooky sounds at the start and bridge, whilst also adopt a modern flavour during the more electronic moments of the song. I also like the set that showed ‘paintings’ of the members during the bridge.

Based on what we could see in the music video for the choreography, I think my comments regarding the showcase of attitude stands here. Throw a bit of a stomp into the mix to really emphasis that the members mean business. If that was the purpose of the routine, then BABYMONSTER succeeded. If not, then it was a decent routine nonetheless.

Song – 4/10
Music Video – 7/10
Performance – 7/10
Overall Rating – 5.5/10

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 4th Week of March 2024

Welcome back for the Weekly KPOP Charts segment. Easter has come and gone (again), and I am back from my break as of today. Today isn’t going to be a review day, as I had a number of things to get in order to prepare for the short work week ahead. Normal transmissions of reviews for the latest releases will begin tomorrow. But until then, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the previous week – the 4th Week of March 2024.

The throwback song for this past week is IMFACT’s Lollipop (from 2016), which I repeated multiple times on an overnight bus ride I took at the start of my break.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is MAX and HUH JUNJIN’s (from LE SSERAFIM) STUPID IN LOVE. I am glad I can finally say this as this track has really been on my mind since its release a few weeks ago. The track is super catchy and fun sounding.

The Charts

Congratulations to NCT DREAM and their latest single Smoothie for debuting in the top spot for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 4th Week of March 2024.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 3rd Week of March 2024

Welcome back for the Weekly KPOP Charts segment. Once again, I am hoping to draft up and post some new reviews – this time, for the Easter long weekend, which I will be on break for between Wednesday this week through to Tuesday the week after for the weekend. During this time, you will be seeing some scheduled reviews, with a primary focus on the recent debuts which I haven’t yet covered on the blog. So, I am going to make this a short introduction to get right to the charts and for me to move onto the drafting those reviews for you! And I have more than one already scheduled! So without further ado, here are the Weekly KPOP Chart for the 3rd Week of March 2024.

The throwback song is actually a compilation, courtesy of DINGO MUSIC, who featured DAY6 on the latest edition of Killing Voice. The main singles from DAY6’s discography were covered in this video, and it was a great trip down memory lane. Highly recommend that you check the video out.

The past week’s non-Korean song of the week is V’s FRI(END)S.

The Charts

Congratulations to DAY6 and their long-awaited comeback with Welcome To The Show for debuting in the top spot for the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of March 2024.
