Dream Girl – SHINee

SHINee is finally back with another rocking song. If you want something like Lucifer or Sherlock, this is not the song for you. But something along the line of Replay or Juliet, then this is for you. I am just thinking, if you are a dedicated KPOP fan, you probably will agree with me that this has to be the best music video ever from SM Ent. Though it is still in a box, it is much more than the box, odd lighting, horrible clothing and loads of close ups. Agreed? Read on.

Dream Girl is a really funky, technological song that is kind of the same level as Sherlock. Dream Girl is much a different compared to the past songs, maybe just due to the fact that technology has eaten up the song and threw up (which is a good thing). The vocals in this song are pretty cool. Minho, who is the rapper, actually has more than one line to sing in this song. Amazing. Not only that, but the chorus is pretty catchy. I really liked the song. Overall, this is one of the best songs for me, by SHINee and probably one of my favourite songs by a SM artist.  I find this song matches SHINee very well. The use of the electro beat is mushed up and crazy like Girls Generations’ I Got A Boy.  The song is about SHINee’s Dream girl and what they expect to be the dream girl, which is an interesting concept to sing about. Overall, a cool song.

The music video is amazing. Though there are some things that I am not fond of in the video -cough-fashion-cough-cough. Got a bad cold. Sorry. The set for this song is amazing. Like that triangle lighting at the back is pretty cool. Along with the stuffed room and the built in trampoline in the wall. Also the amazing holes that the members can climb through at any time (?). Actually, to me the most amazing part of the video is that this is a good quality music video from SM ent. It is not Mr. Simple or The Boys style. It is a music video that I would expect from another company for another band. Really good, just fix up on the really nerdy looking clothing. Those floral jackets are not in season at the moment.

The dance is awesome. To me, this song is accident prone. Even the comeback stage at MCountdown did not go tot plan. Minho’s microphone stand broke, and the group just went along with it, even though it was a potential hazard. Goes to show how professional they are at their game. As for the dance, it is pretty low for SHINee, but hey it still does look good and does have their style within it. I am just waiting for the day the microphone stand just rolls off the foot or slips from the hand.

9/10. Woah, an excellent song that is really up there.

I Yah – Boyfriend

Boyfriend has finally made their comeback with their repackaged album of Janus, with the song, I Yah. After achieving a much larger fan base with a much more mature concept then their last few releases, this comeback was quite anticipated by fans.

To be honest, I was looking forward to this comeback by the boys. However when I first heard the song, I was quite disappointed by the standards that Janus had given them. However, after a few good listens to it, I actually quite like the song. I Yah does not have any meaning, like there is no translation for it. It makes the chorus of the song, quite hard to understand, for me, but that is because I am stupid. I quite like the rap sections of the song, which fits the concept quite well. The ending of the song, was did not grab me like what the raps did to me. It was out of place and definitely did not fit the feel of the song at all. The vocals were pretty okay, but it could’ve have been better. However, I liked the instrumental of the song, from the guitar to the drums. It was like an electro band beat.

The music video is pretty cool. For the dance parts in particular, those cameras which filmed the members dancing while leaving the heads still and then the camera starts to get very shaky are pretty cool but at the same time, quite freaky. I liked the set for the dance parts too: they give off this manly feel to the whole music video. As for the plot of the storyline in this music video is quite interesting. We see a girl who is getting confessed to by most of the band members, however she only chooses one. Yeah, that is okay, but those guys seem to be quite obsessive. In a particular scene, she is sitting in class talking to her friends. Then another guy goes up to her, and starts chatting up. Jealous or just plain obsessive, the madly in love guy is really angry and shoos the chatting guy and the girls friend. Yeah, that is just not the right way to treat your girlfriend. Exactly what made you appealing to her in the first place is quite confusing.

The live is pretty good. The dance had a lot of rubbing in it. Wink Wink. Yeah, but beside that, it was okay. It could’ve been better. I liked the ending though. It really fitted the concept of the comeback.

7/10. Pretty good.

I’m Sorry – CN Blue

CN Blue has finally made their long awaited comeback. Not only is this one of the most anticipated comebacks of the month, it has also raised the bar of competition in the industry. Let’s just say, it is going to be a nasty battle.  Lets also say that this comeback has lived up to its expectations. Cue review:

I’m Sorry is a really good song. As soon as I heard the song, lets just say I was rocking it hard. The start where the girl is like “It’s Over” over the phone is pretty unique. The guitar, drums and vocals in this song is superb, but what else are you meant to expect from one of the most popular KPOP groups yet To me, there was some kind of influence, that I felt in this song from American bands like Train etc. Really, this actually adds more competition to the game. If this song does not win, I will be disappointed. If you have not listened or watched the music video for this song, where have you been? This is one of the best songs of the month. The chorus is exceptionally catchy, especially those moments after each chorus. Pretty cool.

The music video was quite cool, but quite confusing. I guess if this music video became a drama version music video, like what T-Ara and Speed has, I guess added dialogue would’ve helped cleared up some confusion I have. Jungshin was the easiest to understand, as this is on the line of a love song, where the guy is sorry for breaking up. He takes a rose, which probably signifies his loneliness, and smashes it on a pole, scaring the living daylights out of his really, really annoying girl. Let me tell you one thing, buses and trains where I live, don’t have talking people on it. It is basically “Shut up or get off” kind of policy. That girl is quite… Minhyuk in this video is sorry, for smashing a chair and cutting his hands with broken glass shards, however, is it something that he said or heard from the people around him or a girl that angers him? Then, it gets worse. Jonghyun is sorry because he cannot busk for his girlfriend in a subway tunnel. I am sorry? I don’t quite understand. Yonghwa on the other hand is angry because he broke up with his girlfriend on the phone. I don’t see any logic in the anger there. They all join up, and end up throwing something that means a lot to them, like their relationship, for example Yonghwa: his phone, which was the last piece of contact for him with his girlfriend; Minhyuk and his bloody bandages; Jungshin and his lonely rose; and Jonghyun with his guitar pick. Yeah confusing as it is, the only thing I want to see live is the Engrish used by Jonghyun when he talked to those security guards. Classic.

He live is pretty good. First band, in probably a long time, to play live with their instruments as well. Jonghyun was pretty hyperactive in the performances as well.

9/10. Enough said.
