[Weekly KPOP Chart] 1st Week of January 2023

As mentioned earlier today, I will be posting another Weekly KPOP Chart post today for the 1st week of January 2023 – i.e. the week that just passed. I am happy to be back on the blog after a nice break. I don’t have much else to today other than that, so let’s get right to it!

2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards voting has closed

A repeat from the previous post

Just a quick note that the voting page for the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards have now closed, and I will start counting the votes for Best Song and Artist of 2022 over the next few weeks. Thank you for all who voted and help determine the winners of each category. It was indeed a very tight race in some categories, even at the very end.

Unfortunately, it does look like an end of January date to announce winners will not be possible at this time (I am on break again for a week later this month), so keep your eyes out for an announcement in February.

Recap & New releases of the Week

As mentioned above, I made my return to the blog earlier this week and have posted reviews for NewJeans’ Ditto and OMG, MOONBIN & SANHA’s Madness and ATEEZ’s HALAZIA. In addition to those song reviews, I also posted album reviews for Xdinary Heroes, BLACKPINK and TREASURE.

The following songs were also released this week and have been entered into the Weekly KPOP Charts system:

  • The Beauty of Acceptance – NELL
  • Fuckin’ New Year – Yerin Baek
  • Big World – Yerin Baek
  • Ponytail – Yugyeom (GOT7) ft. Sik-K
  • Gonna Be Alright – VIXX
  • beyOnd – Nine (OnlyOneOf)
  • Here I Am – Boys Planet
  • Rose Blossom – H1-KEY
  • Twinkle, Twinkle – ILY:1
  • Wanna Do – U-Kwon (Block B) ft. Woosoo

Throwback Corner

The throwback song of the week is VIXX’s Shangri-La. I checked out VIXX’s discography earlier this week to celebrate their long overdue comeback earlier this week with Gonna Be Alright. Unfortunately, the comeback only features LEO, KEN and HYUK, but I will take what I can from the group. I believe Ravi couldn’t participate as he has recently enlisted into the military, while Hongbin left the group in 2020. I haven’t been able to pinpoint why N didn’t participate in the comeback. Nonetheless, Yay to VIXX’s return!

Non-Korean Release of the Week

The non-Korean release of the week is STAYC’s POPPY, which ranks in the 13th position this week. POPPY is STAYC’s debut single in the Japanese’s music industry and is a very likeable song. Best part for me is the chorus. A more detailed review will be coming your way in the future as part of the International Song Reviews segment.

The Charts

Congratulations to MOONBIN & SANHA for topping the Weekly KPOP Chart for the 1st Week of January 2022 with their latest single, Madness. The last time they topped my Weekly KPOP Charts was with Bad Idea, back in 2020. For more of the charts, keep on reading.
