Everything Is Pretty – Youngjae (B.A.P) & Sunhwa (Secret)

Towards the end of December 2012, an announcement was made by TS Ent about a secret collaboration between the companies two main groups, Secret & B.A.P. Later, it was revealed that Sunhwa and Youngjae had collaborated for a song which was later promoted in January of 2013. Talk about some boring talk, it is a good song, just did not fit well at all.

Now let’s get this straight, I really like B.A.P and Secret, and all the members for both groups. Just this song, was definitely not the best choice for these two particularly good voices. Both Youngjae & Sunhwa are pretty good singers, but this song was not the best option. I think this song would’ve have been much better for Daehyun (who I believe in being shoved to the side by TS to promote Youngjae) and JiEun. Youngjae’s vocals are very husky, while Sunhwa has a hint of cutey, aegyo voice in this song, just they both did not go well together. Actually, my ears kept saying something like, “They are not singing in the same harmony, Youngjae’s voice was too empowering for Sunhwa.” The instrumental was okay, but not as good. The song was not epic as I expected or anticipated. A major letdown.

The music video is just the singers singing and “recording” their song. Nothing much. So I will focus on the performance.

Let’s just say, this was one cute song. Sunhwa holding a picture of Kwanghee for Z:EA and Youngjae holding a piture of B.A.P’s fan group, BABYs. I liked the stage, and I think Youngjae actually toned down his voice just a bit for the performances, so it was okay. Nothing major though.

5/10. Sadly. But I am always sure that a better song or another couple can be chosen next time, if the two bands do collaborate again.

Gone Not Around Any Longer – Sistar19

Sistar19, the famous subunit of the group Sistar, has finally made their comeback with a song that really sure brings out he sexiness in them. Saxophones. Check. Sexy clothes. Check. Bath tub. Check. Horrible boyfriend. Check. Excessive use of jewellery. Check. Review. Check.

The song is pretty okay. At first I was wanting something like Ma Boy, even though, I am not entirely with the song. When this song came out, I was like Urgh But now, it is safe to say that this song is pretty up there. It ranks quite high for me personally. The start of the song was quite addictive, where it reminded me of the Alone choreography. As we enter the song, I think we were met of the whole idea of Hyorin and her backup dancer + featuring rapper. Well, I was quite surprised that they gave a whole verse Bora to rap, just to me, it would’ve have been better with Hyorin’s vocal in it. After that, the instrumental came through, which I think kind of reminded me of the other two members, Soyou and Dasom. Anyway, those high notes at the end were quite good and gave me the chills. The lyrics were pretty good as well. Overall, I was quite happy with the song.

The music video is kind of weird. I am not entirely sure which concept they are going in. I don’t know if it is sexiness or if it is hip hop. I am sure everyone saw those hip hop gear at the end. What does that even have to do with the whole sexiness feel of the song. Hmmm… I was quite amazed at the acting in this video. It is pretty good. Convinced until, I saw hip hop in the video. They were dancing to a piano in hip hop gear. There is something wrong with that indeed. Anyway, the glass piano is quite amazing, and how Hyorin stands on it to do her high note is pretty cool as well. I like those walls as well, something that gives more of an impact to the video.

With the dance, I thought that it was unhygienic to clean tables with your ass. Don’t you know how many people eat there? Don’t you hate that odd carrot now sticking out of your pants when you sit? Anyway, the dance is quite good actually. That and the table is more better than me at getting girls. Or the table is seriously that dirty and needed to be clean right away.

8/10. Pretty good.

Goodbye – Dasoni (EXID)

EXID has once again pulled off, to me, another successful comeback in a form of a subunit. Dasoni consist of the two wonderful vocalists of the group, Hani and Solji. Must I say that I am in love with this group. I find every song they come out with quite addictive, this the same as well. Tough this comeback and debut crept on me as a surprise, I think that surprise paid off quite well. Let’s continue, shall we?

I TOTALLY LOVE THIS SONG! Despite it coming out like a week ago, I think, this has been one of the most successful songs on my list for this month. The vocals of both vocalists were superb and those notes at the end of the song were really good. However, I was disappointed that this song was unfortunately shorten last week to less than 3 minutes, which resulted into some parts of the song to be cut. The English phrases pronounced could be polished just a bit more, however, they will pass I guess. My one and only complaint with this song is: 2 members are not enough, I think a rap would’ve been better in the song as well. Well, LE, the group’s rapper, is actually promoting another song herself, you know, Brave Brother’s 19+ song.

I love the concept of the music video. That ethnic feel to the song was quite good. I don’t talk about the concept of comebacks that much mainly because I become really confused. However, the dresses worn in this video seems to be really beautiful. I really like the darkness feel of the song that the director has included. I guess it contrasts the beauty of the vocalists and their voices. The use of shadows are really effective. I really like the calligraphed drawing of what i think is some kind of shoot or bamboo. I am just confused about the pile of rubbish they sit on. Or is that to make it more arty?

The dance to this song is not as effective and addictive as other dances. However, the use of the fans and the formations and backup dancers are really cool. As for the singers, well their dance is kind of basic and I am sure my 4 year old sister can actually come up with something much better. While we are talking about backup dancers, what is with the trend of covering up their faces with pieces of fabric? Something that I will never understand.

8.5/10. Pretty good.

Ring Ma Bell – Two X

Oh my. Am I a day late?? My agenda specified that I had to get this up on the 22nd and today is the 23rd. Sad, but I am back and ready to review this still ripe rookie group. They come from the same company that manages MBLAQ and made thier debut in 2011 with Double Up, which to me kind of sounded horrible. However, they have finally released their second single, Ring Ma Bell.

Ring Ma Bell is a really addictive track, to me. It is one of the songs that sound like a gospel song and also has those electronic bits to the song. The chorus is definitely the most catchiest part for the whole song. The rap fits the song quite well. The only thing that I have to say about the rap: Did she just repeat the line ‘Ring Ma Bell” like 4 times at the end of the rap? To me, the person who wrote the rap must’ve been really lazy. I actually like the autotune in this song, especially after the chorus. It takes the song to a whole new level. I am not going to complain, but the song really does use “Ring Ma Bell” like a million times. Overall the song was quite good, and I liked that.

The music video for this song is not my thing. To me, and I apologise if I offend anyone out there, but it seems quite girl-ly. I was quite disappointed, even though the song has a real lack of bells. I think there was only one bell. How on earth do you expect someone to ring your bell when you don’t even have one in the first place. It is such a pity. Anyway, I find it okay, just not my thing. It could’ve been better. However, I did like the contrast between the pink and that aqua green.

The dance is okay, however I was expecting something much better. However, I found the dance quite addictive and really like it, despite it being okay. ‘

It was good. 6/10. Could’ve been better though.

24/7 – 2Yoon (4 Minute)

2Yoon, the first subunit of 4 Minute has finally made their epic debut into the KPOP scene with 24/7. They announced that they were going to try and promote a country pop song. At first, this may sound quite disgusting but seriously it was much better than what I expected. Actually, it is on replay for me …. 24/7. 😉

This is something different, yet at the same time sounded really good to my ears. It takes you back to an era that was never visited in KPOP and Pop songs in general. I quite like the vocals of both the singers in the unit. I love the whole song entirely, I think the song is just perfect. I don’t much to complain about the song at all. I think my most favourite part was “Boom Clap, Boom Boom Boom Clap, Boom Clap.” It added some kind of chic yet at the same time maintained the whole country feel of the song. The chorus was definitely really catchy. Now I know many people are saying 2Yoon are copying B.A.P with the “Get Down. G-g-g-g-g-get down” part of the song, but to me, that is a load of crap. As, a popular Hong Kong drama used to say: “1 time may be coincident, but after 2 times occurring, it is not a coincident“. The only part which I find kind of weird is the bridge itself. It kind of does not fit the whole feel of the song, but still, sounds pretty good.

The music video is kind of weird from my perspective. Why? Because if I was a girl, I would not be doing farm work in high heels or expensive boots. Nor will I be doing any digging with a very expensive hat, jacket, pair of pants and/or any jewellery on myself. Why? because they are usually expensive, and would cost a fortune to take to the dry cleaners or to clean it myself. Now beside rich girls going to a farm to kind of “change it”, the girls bring a wave which causes a hype in the whole town. I liked the set which the music video was filmed in. It was very original. I am confused about the ending, though. Was it a dream, or did they think it up in their imagination? But anyway, the music video was quite good.

The dance is very western like. It is pretty easy to follow, and the moves are not that difficult. Yes, I tried it. You have a problem? Now, I know that overalls are a good choice for this style and dance, just leather overalls, are very distracting. Yeah, quite distracting. 😉

Anyway…. 9.5/10.

Don’t Go – December

December has finally returned with another song at the end of December, just before enlisting into the army. Now, I totally think this is a good song, just I think it can be fixed in some areas, and when I mean some, I mean the whole song. I have dying to review a December song since June 2011 (probably accurate). They have really good vocals but they are so underrated. Dont’ Go’s title is like a message to their fans which say Don’t Go. The song I think also brings in more meaning like “Don’t Go, just wait for us to come back in 2015”, which I am assuming be the year they get out of the army. But that is what I thinking.

The song sounds quite familiar. I don’t know why, it just does. Hmmm… But what song does it sound like? T-Ara’s Day By Day and LedApple’s song. Yeah, if you did not pick that up…. Well, never-mind. But the duo when the duo sings, there is a totally different feel to it. They sound really emotional in the song and those long notes are really good. I guess my most favourite part of the song would be the chorus, particularly “Baby, Don’t Let Me Cry“. It is quite catchy. The vocal talent is really quite up there and there is no joke. I just wish that they had chosen a much better instrumental or made one of their own for this song. You know, Big Bang’s Fantastic Baby would make this song loads better. 😛

The music video is pretty good. I like how random the sets are, but how they weave the feel of the song into the car dump place makes it looks it good. But beside that, that guy is a really good actor. Is he a professional actor? I dunno. Is he? Just I don’t understand the whole purpose of the car yard. It looks good, but seems to be out of place. I particuarly like the camera work in this song. It is much different from other KPOP videos. For example, they showed us the line of vision which the girl had 1:16. I don’t fully understand the whole music video though. We can all see that they are loving and having a happy life with each other, but soon she starts to disappear. My questions is why is she disappearing? Is the guy delusional, like Dongho?

The live was alright. Just them standing there singing the song. Boo Hoo.

Robot – CN Blue

CN Blue made a comeback in Japan in December with the song, Robot. Despite it being an anticipated comeback from fans, I view this as a failure. After it came out, nothing happened. I did not see people hyperventilating over this song as they did with Hey You or I’m Sorry. To me, I don’t like this song, but I don’t hate it. It is not just for me. To me, it was a weak song for them to sing.

despite it showing their ability to change their sound and ability to sing, I was quite disappointed. I like most of CN Blue’s songs but this is just not for me, It is a J-POP song but can I just say that it is more like 80% English, 15% Japanese and 5% Onomatopoeia . I found the beat and instrumental okay, just it was not as great compared to I’m Sorry (which the review should be coming out at the end of February or early March). Yonghwa dominates this song once again, leaving Jonghyun the other vocalist of the group to sing such a small part of the song. But beside that, nothing much else to say about the song. Well, beside their English. “I’m a robot” sounds like gibberish to me, but it is okay.

The music video was quite simple. Them playing instrumentals, with a whole heap of electrical cords around them. And then the cords fall. It is okay, but something a little more epic would’ve been better to suit the song. Slo-motion scenes of the cords breaking is not what I would say is epic, but quite lazy. But hey, it still looked good.

5/10. It was okay, but could’ve been better.

While You Were Asleep – JeA (Brown Eyed Girls)

JeA, the main vocalist from Brown Eyed Girls, has finally made her long awaited solo debut. Being the last member to debut, JeA has shown her true colours with the really epic song While You Were Asleep. End of the story. Hands down. This has to be one of the best songs of the year, for this year.

Did you hear her high note at the end? It WAS EPIC!!!!! Everything in this song has been thought through pretty well. From each instrument used for the song, to each high note that was sung. The songs started off small and very slow. But as the song progressed, she went on get faster, with the orchestra building up the song. She soons ends the song with a very slow melody, like at the start of the song. The song had a rocking orchestra like in Sixth Sense and the back-up choir was epic as well. I will beg you to listen to this song. It is too good.

The music video was pretty epic. Did you see the teaser to this video? It looked like JeA rocked the whole video. The video itself, for me, did not live up to the teaser’s standard (don’t you hate it, when that happens?). However, that does not mean that this video is totally rocking. Did you see the transition between the epic sets? This is seriously pretty good. The lighting in this video is used to the directors advantage, and I totally love the floating violinists and the freak guitarist who has guts to play well on a stack of chairs, all turn upside down! I like how all the musicians all just became like JeA back up dances. This is pretty epic. Love IT!

Her lives are pretty epic. I am really surprised that she has not won an award for her song yet. Her high note at the end every time she sings shows how much talent. I think that is her way of saying, “You got nothing on me, gurl!”

10/10. Duh, if I worte such a wonderful review, and gave her a 1/10, that would be crazy. Or that might mean, I made a typo. 10/10.

I Need You – Kim Sung Gyu (Infinite)

Kim Sung Gyu started his follow-up promotions right after promoting 60 Seconds with I Need You. This takes Sung Gyu’s passion for rock even further with a slow, rock ballad. Though this is not the best song for him to sing to follow up (in my point of view, he just should’ve stop. None of his other songs on the mini album was that great compared to 60 Seconds), he still made the song sound good.

This is a song that is much slower than 60 Seconds. It is alright in my point of view, and is something that came out of the rock era back in the day. His vocals are pretty good, however it does not bring his talent out as 60 Seconds did. I think 60 Seconds is more of a rock song, while this is more of a ballad. I liked the drums in this song, and that piano is pretty good as well. However, this is not my cup of tea unfortunately.

The music video is pretty epic. The black and white filter placed on the video is pretty good. The slo-motion of the video is pretty good and it fits the whole feel of the song. I am not sure about the musicians though, they look like they are really sick. I love the transition to the colour screen which makes the video much more epic. The transition itself fits the pace of the song as well. For the musicians, they seem like stalkers, because every time he turns the corner, they are right there. The smoke creates a hazy image at the end and actually blends in quite well. So a pretty good music video.

The live is just a band performance. Nothing much to complain about here.

7/10. Pretty good overall, but the song is just not for me.

I Like That – GLAM

GLAM are finally back with a new song, that is totally badass. Being the first ever group (or first ever rookie group, I forgot) to make a comeback through a year-end music festival show, this has increased the hype for the single as well. Not only that, but fans are also eager to see how the group will cope and function with the permanent (hopefully not) absence of one of the members, Trinity.

The song is something along the lines of 2NE1’s I Am The Best or EVOL debut single. There is not one thing that I would complain about this song. It is totally badass and something I would expect from a matured band that is already big in the industry. Even though, to me Trinity did nothing except for dance and smile, there is a big gap in the vocals for me. I don’t know why, but ever since Trinity left, I felt like the singing in the group has decreased. Anyway, I was totally surprised about the sudden change where the song was taking us. At first it sounded like a song that 2NE1 would sing. But when the chorus came around, I was totally surprised. Guess the girls have not lost their cutey style after all. I absolutely love every aspect of the song, from the instrumental to the rap of the song. Pretty good.

The music video was quite interesting. I have a feeling that they copied another band’s style. Didn’t B.A.P just release No Mercy with a music video quite similar to the ending of the song? Just a thought. Anyway, I totally love the way the director incorporated the scream that featured in the song itself. That was pretty cool. I found many parts of this music video quite funny. But then again, I would laugh at everything. Yeah, that is how I roll. Beside that I don’t have much to complain about the music video. Everything is quite top notch.

The live is pretty cool. I absolutely love the dance for this song. It shows the badass side of the girls and at the same time show a softer but more elegant side during the chorus. L.O.V.E this dance.

I would give it a 9/10. Hell yeah, this song totally rocks my boat.

Dancing Queen – SNSD

SNSD pre-released this song at the end of 2012 to tease their fans a little bit. However, as a reviewer, I find no parts of this song quite appealing. I guess this would be one of the worse songs ever by any KPOP artists in the world. To learn that people cut this song, and made the girls promote Gee, I was quite happy. Gee was a fantastic song. This however is really really poopy.

Yeah, nothing in this song is quite good. Normally, I would find the chorus quite catchy, but here, I find nothing catchy. Let’s say I found the start really, really bad, and as the song went on, I wondered how this song was competing against Gee. Anyway, the song is like those really cheap songs that you find on the jukeboxes, which have not been updated since the 70’s. This song has its disco roots in it, just it is awful. The girls sound good, but this is not the song for me unfortunately. It also sounds like the girls put too much strain on their voice.

Ah, the music video. Those pants bring it back to the Gee days, however, I find it quite dull. Yes, the set looks dull to me. Anyway, those hats that kind of acted like teasers at the end were hilarious. Don’t know how anyone would mistaken the F-word as an innocent word that 5-year-olds should be saying. Thank god, the music video was released editing out the foul word. To me, bad editing and a bad stylist. Anyway, this music video is not for me.

As for the live, it was okay. I don’t think I will ever see a live performance of this song, as all (or most) SM artists end up lip syncing instead of live for their comeback stages. Yay??

2/10. Lowest score ever. And for those people who say I am bias, Boo. I am not bias. These are my thoughts of the song. I may have put down Dancing Queen, I Got A Boy and The Boys as awful songs, however Run Devil Run, Genie, Gee & Hoot were totally cool songs.

Break Down – Super Junior M

Super Junior M made their long awaited comeback since who knows with Break Down. Different from their previous songs, Break Down is a song that shows, to me, more of their dance skills rather than vocal skills.

This song is quite addictive to listen to. It is not a typical SM song. It has this really addictive techno beat and to me, there seem to be a lot of thought put into the song. I enjoy listening to this song, but I am disappointed, as it does not contain the vocal talent which Kyuhyun and Ryeowook I am used to listening to. I am used those high and long notes towards the end of the song, just this song is lacking it. But hey, I guess it would not fit the club feel of the song. The other members sound pretty good, however, I don’t know if the autotune or background vocals are overpowering, but I can only hear Henry, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook & Sungmin’s voice. I cannot here the other members at all or differentiate their voices. I absolutely love the bridge of the song, which is my highlight of the song.

Ah, the music video. Another set, however this one seemed like there is a lot of thought and money put into it. I am not sure about the camera work though. It seems like when the camera films the solo shots of the singers, they seem to be standing in front of a blue or green screen, and the editing there went really bad. However, that part where they had all the members dancing in that really dark room seems to be a cross-over from Beast’s Shock and EXO’s What is Love?. But beside that, I am usually impressed by Super Junior’s dance skill. However this song lacks it. I don’t know whether there were a lot of solo shots or something, but I am not impressed by this dance. Despite it being a really good upbeat song, the dance moves are quite slow. But hey, they made the dance extra slow when it came to the slow parts of the song.

8/10. Pretty good for a SM song this time around.

Special Girl – Infinite H

Infinite H has been teasing their fans since the end of 2011, if I am not mistaken, after announcing this subunit. And me being delayed, as I live under a rock, only just relaized who Hoya and Dongwoo were. Let’s just say, I thought Dongwoo was Hoya and Hoya was Dongwoo. Yeah, great.

Special Girl has its roots in hip hop, which these guys specialise in. This is a really good song, which I actually like. It may not be anyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoy this song. It sounds sweet and at the same time sounds quite manly. Also, a full album on hip-hop is quite rare in KPOP, so this is pretty good. To me, the song has a really catchy chorus. It sounds pretty good, and their rapping is also pretty good. However, I am not sure, but listening to the song, I keep on picking up the word “sex”. I understand that “sexy” is in the song, but at the start, during Hoya’s solo, I heard the word “sex”. Does anyone else here it? But beside that, this is a pretty good song.

The music video is pretty good. It was boring, but at other times pretty nice. Hoya is extremely awkward with girls, and a scene where he was meant to film ended up being ruined because of his awkwardness, making the director yell at him. Dongwoo on the other hand, like this girl. Just his problem is, what he does, does not match what others do. You see, he is giving flowers to the girl he likes, but when he turns up, there is a long line of other guys waiting to give flowers AND presents. Dongwoo, realized he has no chance pushes in the line, and end up running away because h was so shy. Pretty good story. Just the music video seems to lack something. I don’t know what, but it is lacking something. Also, is that really Primary? He took off the cardboard box, so is that guy really him?

The performance of this song is pretty good. The dance matches the feel of the song and to speed of the song which is pretty good.

8/10. Really good debut album, which is different from what Infinite usually gives us.

Over U – Miss A

Miss A made their comeback with Touch last year, in March of 2012. Over U was their featured as their comeback stage special and their follow up song, where remixes of this song were performed. I personally prefer this song over Touch, which I did not really like that much.

The song Over U talks about the girls being over their boyfriends. That, or they are talking about something completely irrelevant to the song title. The song, for me, has an addictive electro-beat which blends in with the songs that many people find popular nowadays. The vocals are pretty good in this song and there is really nothing to complain about. I find the song quite okay. It is not bad, but it is not as good as other songs.

There is no music video, so I am going to skip right over this part and onto the performance.

The dance for this is pretty okay. The moves are in time with the beat and all of that. I just think that Miss A devoted the majority of their time for the Touch chorography and did not have much time to practice this dance. That or they slapped random moves at the very last moment.

5.5/10. Could have been better, but I guess it would have to do.

What Are You Doing Today – Hello Venus

After being noted as the female rookie group with the most potential to making it big in 2012, they have finally comeback with a new song released at the start of December (I think). This song still maintains the girl’s image as the cutey girl group that we are used to.

To be honest, I personally don’t think this is the right song for the girls. It does not have the same impact as Venus did. It does have a catchy beat, but at other times during the song, the song does not fit. The rap did not fit the song at all, and sounded really sudden. Then the song is relaunched to the chorus, but it does not move along well. It does maintain the good enough image of the girls through their vocals, but it does not enhance the girls more. I think I feel this song kind of drags the girls back rather than put them up there with other singers. Compared to Venus, this song is not as addictive. It really does not show off the girls with their vocals, and the rap was not really top-notch.

As for the music video, I found the colour blue in the background as quite dull. This, for me, makes the whole music video as a dull thing to watch. Venus was bright and delightful, but now they came back with this song, I am quite surprised. The video actively fits the feel of the song and title of the song, where the girls are asking the guy about what he was doing today. However, with the dull nature of the song, this video was not for me. The thing I liked about in the music video was the picture frames. They looked quite vintage but nice. However, the video was not for me.

The dance was okay, but it was not quite catchy for me as the dance for Venus did. Also, I was quite bored of the performance. It really did not showcase any of the girl’s talent, which really made the performance quite boring to me.

3.5/10. Not the song, music video or performance for me. Maybe next time.

Goodbye To Romance – Sunny Hill

Sunny Hill has finally made their comeback with another song. If you are looking for something along the lines of The Grasshopper Song, which was released in January 2012 or Is The White Horse Coming?, released in May-ish 201, then this is not the song for you. This however brings them back to their debut days, where they sung really underrated ballads and love songs. However, I am assuming that now SNSD’s song is now out, these girls are gonna drop down. Sad.

Anyway, this song is more of a love song, but fits the ideal type of your average Christmas Carol. The piano in this song is quite pleasant to listen to and feels warm. I feel like I am in a toasty room, despite battling 40 degree days, which translate to very cold in Fahrenheit. The start makes it sound quite serious, but as soon as you hear the girls vocals, then you can guess that this song means something else. I absolutely think the highlight of the song is the chorus, which kind of makes me picture the girls waving goodbye to their boyfriends or love interests. I guess you can say Seungah and Misung get the short hand of the stick, as Jubee and Kota’s voice do overpower the other two, but seriously, these girls sounds really good. Those really faint short but total high notes where Kota is singing “Goodbye” sounds really good and adds to the definition of the song.

I totally love the music video for this song. It shows that the whole music video is filmed in one shot. The lightiing of the video gives off an antique feel to the room, and how distant this room is to the rest of the room. The little girls are like younger versions of the actual members. I absolutely love the addition to the toys, it is like a trip down memory lane, with the teddy bear and the train set. The classroom photos and the member of Sunny Hill seem to be having a great time. My only complaint though, the flashing lights at the end. Yeah, they don’t really look as good, but still. Awesome video.

The live performance of the song is totally boring. Though I miss the girls dancing, this is the perfect song to sing during Winter and Christmas. Pity, that they still have not won a first place yet. One day.

9.75/10. I would give it 10/10, however this song seems only great during Christmas or Winter time.
