[Weekly Chart] 1st Week of January 2021

And now we move onto 2021. We are already a week down with another slow week in the KPOP industry. Elsewhere though, the week was quite eventful and filled with shocking surprises. But this is a KPOP blog, so we will focus on the former. The good news is that we are expecting many comebacks this upcoming week, with majority of them occurring tomorrow. These include the return of (G)I-DLE, TREASURE, VICTON and the debut of T1419. It is going to be an intense day tomorrow. But before we can proceed, we shall reflect upon the past week that was the 1st Week of January 2021.

New releases of the week

As mentioned earlier, it was a slow week in KPOP. We saw comebacks from Jeong Sewoon and MCND, which I have reviewed. There were a few additional comebacks including Hong Eunki’s (former member of Rainz) comeback single, ON&ON, AB6IX’s collabroative remix single Fallin’ (Adrenaline) with Why Don’t We, another single (Luxury Big House) from BOYHOOD (Nam Donghyun), and A.C.E’s Fav Boyz (Favourite Boy (Goblin)) remix with Steve Aoki and Thutmose.

Non-KPOP release by a Korean artist

I want to give a shout out to songs that are described as non-KPOP, but are by someone with roots in the Korean music industry. So I will be dedicating a segment in the Weekly KPOP Charts posts each week to the showcase the non-KPOP song that I was tuning into for that week. For this week, I have been returning to Chungha’s Dream of You with R3HAB. It will be featured in an upcoming International Song Review segment.

And here we are, the main centrepiece of the Weekly KPOP Charts segement, the charts. Congratulations to TWICE’s Cry For Me surprise single release for coming out on top of the charts for the 1st Week of January 2021. For more of the charts, see below!

[Weekly Chart] 5th Week of December 2020

Wait? 2020. Wasn’t that 10 days ago? Well, yes. It was 10 days ago. But as I was on my break, I wasn’t able to post the Weekly KPOP Charts segment for the 5th and final week of 2020. Hence, it will be posted today, before we get into 2021 any further. The 5th Week of December, which consisted of the dates 27th December to 2nd January (inclusive), consisted of a lot of food eating, time with the family (though very limited due to the re-introduction of restrictions), a lot more mask wearing and the New Year Countdown. It also consisted of the first two days of the new year which reminded us that 2020 is still lurking around us. But there is still hope for 2021, with many more days in the year to come! For this post, I will be going through the Top 5 breakdown and straight into the charts after that (aka. a quick one post).

Starting from the bottom of the Top 5 for the 5th Week of December 2020, we have GOT7’s pre-release single Breath. In the fourth position, we have GFRIEND’s answer to retro, MAGO. In the third position, we had Kai’s solo debut single, Mmmh. In the second position, we had GOT7’s Last Piece, which remained steady from the previous week. And in the first position this week, we have WOODZ’s Bump Bump! WOODZ’s single came out on top, as I spent a lot of the 5th Week of December playing some of my favourites directly and Bump Bump was one of those songs. For more of the charts, scroll down below.

[Weekly Chart] 4th Week of December 2020

As you may know, I decided to take a break over Christmas and New Years. This meant that I wasn’t able to post my usual Weekly KPOP Charts on Sundays over this break and hence wrap up 2020. But I still kept my records and I will still be posting the Weekly KPOP Charts for both the 4th and 5th week of December 2020 in the coming days. Today, I will be posting the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 4th Week of December, with the dates ranging between 20 December to 26 December. For these two charts, I will only do the Top 5 breakdown, post the charts and recap the song leaving the charts for that week.

Strating from the bottom of the Top 5 is Mamamoo’s AYA, which rose into the fifth position from the 31st position last week (3rd Week of December 2020). The victorious song of the 4th Week of Demember 2020 was BoA’s Better, the title track that marked her 20th year in the industry. Congratulations BoA! For more of the charts, scroll down below.

There is a bit coming your way, so make sure you keep tuned into the blog between Christmas meals and other festive activities. And if you don’t celebrate Christmas, make sure you take a breather regardless. You deserve it as well!

As for this Weekly Chart segment, the 3rd Week of December 2020 (this post) will be the final one of the year. The posts for the 4th Week of December 2020 and 5th Week of December 2020 will be posted in 2021 once I am back from my break.

As of this week, we are officially on the home stretch to the end of 2020. There is officially fours weeks left of the year. But there are still going to be a lot of action in these final few weeks. I will continue to push out reviews as I have been saying for the last six months. And our beloved KPOP idols will continue to release music to keep us on our toes. But before we can move forward, let’s wrap the past week with the Weekly KPOP Charts post!

No massive jumps this week, so I am jumping right into the Top 5 summary. From the bottom of this section of the chart, we have two new releases of this week. In the fifth position, we have ENHYPEN’s with their debut title track, Given-Taken. They were one-upped by BoA’s 20th year anniversary comeback, Better. LOONA’s Why Not? experiences a resurgence, rising back into the Top 5 by landing into the third position. GFriend’s MAGO remains consistent by maintaining its position in the Top 5 by rising to the second position. And finally, GOT7’s Last Piece is the final piece of the Top 5 this week, making its start on the charts at the very top.

Last week, I decided to focusing on finalising everything related to the 2020 KPOPREVIEWED Awards so I could get everything finalised before December 1st. As a result, I had to drop the Weekly KPOP Charts temporarily on Sunday. And then I forgot about it during the week. Until today! Without any further delay, here is the Weekly KPOP Chart for the final week of November 2020.

But first, the big jumps of the week. A lot of them today. The most notable jump was the song that ended up topping the charts for the 4th Week of November 2020, BTS’s Life Goes On. Other songs that experienced a large jump includes SECRET NUMBER’s Got That Boom, NCT U’s Make A Wish (Birthday Song), Weeekly’s Zig Zag, NCT U’s From Home and NATTY’s Teddy Bear.

As for the Top 5, let’s start from the top. You already know who topped the charts as I mentioned it earlier, BTS’s Life Goes On. Following BTS is GOT7 with their pre-release single, Breath. One of NCT U’s newest songs, 90’s Love, debuts in the third position. MOMOLAND’s rises to the Top 4 with Ready or Not, while GFriend’s Mago continues their Top 5 streak, placing fifth this week. [Weekly Chart] 3rd Week of November 2020

It is time for another Weekly KPOP Charts to wrap up the past week. A few big comebacks and debuts this past week, along with my broken promise of more reviews :). I needed to proofread those drafts I mentioned I had “scheduled” before actually scheduling them and I kind of jumped the gun by saying they are scheduled. Hopefully I can get around to those drafts this week, but we will see based on the number of new releases this week. In the meanwhile, be prepared for the upcoming 2020 KPOPREVIEWED Awards and the rest of the Weekly KPOP Charts for this week.

Last week we saw no big jumps. This week, have a few big jumps. The biggest ump was experienced by BLACKSWAN’s Tonight, which I am in the midst of drafting a review for. Other big jumps (30 positions or more) include Super Junior’s The Melody, Berry Good’s ACCIO, ONEWE’s Parting and AleXa’s Revolution.

BTOB’s return as a subunit with Show Your Love enters the charts in the third position. Some of the reviews I have been holding for a number of weeks, so I am glad that I am finally making progress with my catch up. Since I am on a roll, I want to continue scheduling and drafting reviews, so I won’t dwindle on the charts for long this week (i.e. this is amy super long way of saying it is going to be a short one this week).

On a side note, there will be a super special announcement coming your way today, so keep your eyes peeled for it. I am pumped and you will be excited for it! In the meanwhile, let’s move along with the charts.

No big jumps this week, for the first time in many weeks. So I am going straight to the Top 5 summary. Starting from the bottom of the Top 5, we have Pentagon’s Daisy (which has reigned on the other end of the Top 5 for a number of weeks already). In the fourth position, we have Mamamoo’s Dingga. In the third position, TREASURE’s MMM, who has rose into the top 5 this week. The second and first positions consist of new songs from the week. Taemin’s theartric Idea and GFriend’s super retro and catchy MAGO sits in these positions respectively. For the rest of the charts, scroll down below.

[Weekly Chart] 1st Week of November 2020

We are almost at the end of the craziest year ever! Only eight weeks remain in 2020. And KPOP is going to be jamming a lot in the next eight weeks without a doubt. November is already tracking to be an intense month, with comebacks and debuts lined up. And without a doubt, December is going to be as busy as it ever has been. November is a particularly a busy month for this blog as I am rushing to get reviews out before the November 30 deadline. How come? Well, you will find out in a little over a week. Until then, here are the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of November 2020.

As per the Weekly Charts segment, we must run through the big jumps of the week. Why do I cover these big jumps? Well, they jumped more than 30 positions for multiple reasons and deserve a shout out for their appeal and power for being able to achieve such a jump. This week, the biggest jump is experienced by DKB’s Work Hard, which jumped from the bottom of last weeks chart to the 13th position this week. The only other big jump this week was Mamamoo’s Dingga, which jumped for the same reasons.

And now, the breakdown of this week’s Top 5. Starting from the bottom of this arrangement, we have TXT’s Blue Hour, which was the song in the fourth position last week. WEi’s Twilight rises into the Top 5 this week into the fourth position, while Park Ji Hoon’s GOTCHA debuts in the third position. Another new release in the Top 5 this week is AB6IX’s Salute, which debuted in the second position. And for this week’s number 1 song, we have Pentagon’s Daisy, which is very familiar with the top spot as they have previously sat at the top of the charts for two weeks already. [Weekly Chart] 5th Week of October 2020

Welcome to the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 5th Week of October 2020. It is crazy that October is now officially over and we are officially in November. Within a few blinks or a few Christmas carols, 2020 will be wrapping up and we will be in 2021. It is very scary to think that, isn’t it? But then again, we will all be glad it is come fast given how crap 2020 has been to the entire world. In the meanwhile, there are a lot more KPOP releases coming your way, so I guess we all should buckle our seatbelts and prepare ourselves for the influx of comebacks – November is looking jam packed!

As per the recent Weekly KPOP Charts, here are the big jumps of the week. H&D’s Umbrella experienced the biggest jump of 41 positions, thanks to its review last weekend. Crush’s Let Me Go (feat. Other than those three songs, BDC’s Shoot The Moon and CRAVITY’s Ooh Aah are the other songs that had big jumps this weeks.

And now the Top 5 of the past week! The new song at the top end of the charts is SEVENTEEN’s HOME;RUN. It switches places with last week’s top song, Pentagon’s Daisy, which is now in the second position this week. In the third position this week was the unexpecting Shoot The Moon by BDC, followed by TXT’s new release, Blue Hour. And finally, wrapping up the Top 5 this week is Stray Kids’ Back Door, which rose back into the Top 5 this week. For more of the charts, scroll down below.

[Weekly Chart] 2nd Week of October 2020

As promised today, you have an album review and song review post coming you way today. In addition to those reviews, we have the Weekly KPOP Charts, which is obviously this post. I know I have been promising to catch up on some reviews that I have missed. They will eventually come, though I don’t know yet. I have been growing tired a lot earlier lately. I am also working on some other posts, such as OST reviews and International Song Reviews that should be out some time in the near future. We will see in a couple of weeks whether I have been too ambitious. But in the meanwhile, more reviews, album reviews and this Weekly KPOP Chart post!

Per the now regular format, I will quickly run through the songs that have had a big jump. The biggest jump this week belongs to J.Y Park and Sunmi’s When We Disco, which is in its final week on the charts and jumps up 41 spots. Other songs experiencing a big jump (i.e. more than 30 positions) are ONEUS’s To Be Or Not To Be and UP10TION’s Light.

For the top five this week, we start again from the bottom of the top end of the charts. WJSN CHOCOME’s unit debut single, Hmph!, debuts in the fifth position. EVERGLOW’s La Di Da rises from last week’s fifth position into this week’s fourth position. Stray Kids’ Back Door, which has been sitting on the top of the charts for three weeks now, has moved down two positions. BLACKPINK’s Lovesick Girls rises into the Top 5 into the second position this week. And the newest addition to the top ranking song of the week is Golden Child’s Pump It Up! [Weekly Chart] 1st Week of October 2020

Today, I am going to get the Weekly KPOP Charts post for this past week out early so I can focus more on the reviews that I had planned to write. A few of them are coming next week (starting Monday), so keep your eyes peeled for those. With that being said, there is a bit to get through (i.e. big jumps and Top 5 breakdown) today in this post, so let’s get moving along.

This past week has been a bit of an odd one. With the limited amount of releases (I only recorded two new chart entries this week), I ended up listening to a lot of songs that I didn’t listen to much in the previous weeks. Hence there were a lot of big jumps in the charts this week (that is, more than 30 positions). MAMAMOO’s Wanna Be Myself experienced the biggest jump this week by 54 positions. Other big jumps include Kim Sejeong’s Whale, ATEEZ’s THANXX, D1CE’s One Summer, ONEWE’s Parting, CHECKMATE’s DRUM and Bae Jin Young and Kim Yo Han’s I Believe.

For the Top 5 breakdown, we have Stray Kids’ Back Door sitting firmly in the top position for the third week in a row. They are followed by TREASURE’s I Love You, which sits in the second position for the second week in a row. Rising into the top 5 from out of the last week’s Top 30 is CHECKMATE’s DRUM, which I reviewed earlier in the week. The Boyz’s The Stealer also rises into the Top 5, though it didn’t jump as much from last week. EVERGLOW’s La Di Da drops down one position into the fifth position this week, thus completing the Top 5 this week. For more of the charts, scroll down below.

[Weekly Chart] 4th Week of September 2020

Another week has gone by. It was an intense past week with multiple comebacks and debuts occuring, which is commonly expected during the week before Chuseok (or the Mid-Autumn Festivals in other countries) based on previous years. This compensates for the lack of releases during the week of the holiday as many Koreans (including some idols) return to their hometowns to be with their family. As you can tell I haven’t covered all the comebacks and debuts from the past week, so I am hoping I can use the upcoming week to catch up. It will be a mammoth task, but I am sure I can knock out a few reviews this week. In the meantime, here is the Weekly KPOP Charts for the past week.

It is time to look at the high jumps for this week. Not the sport, but the giant leaps that we can see in the Top 30. Kang Daniel’s Who U Are, Yoon Dujun’s Lonely Night (the song with the biggest jump this week), APRIL’s Now or Never and (G)I-DLE’s DUMDI DUMDI were this week’s biggest jumps this week.

With that business out of the weigh, we turn to the Top 5. Starting from the bottom of this arrangement is fromis_9’s FEEL GOOD (SECRET CODE). In the fourth position is EVERGLOW’s latest single, La Di Da. In the third position is MOONBIN & SANHA’s Bad Idea. Treasure’s I Love You rises into the second position, while Stray Kid’s Back Door remains steady in the number one position for the second week in a row. For more of the charts, scroll down below.

[Weekly Chart] 2nd Week of September 2020

You know the drill when it comes to Sunday. Here is another Weekly KPOP Chart post. Also coming your way today is the third album review for this weekend and another song review post. Before we move onto the charts, I want to address a promise that I have not been delivering. Over the last few weeks, I mentioned that there are many reviews that I am catching up on and should have posted on the weekdays. Unfortunately, I have been unable to keep this promise as I have other things going on in my life that really tires me out. Plus I have to prioritize the new releases of the week. So I have decided to stop promising you reviews and I will post them as soon as possible when I have time to sit down and write them. I am mentioning this in case you are awaiting a particular review. I will update my ‘Coming Soon’ page shortly and regularly so you have an idea which reviews are coming your way!

And now, here is the brief look at the charts. Large jumps this week include Wonho’s Open Mind, LUNARSOLAR’s OH YA YA YA (both of these were reviews posted during the week), Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi’s Naughty and Song Ji Eun’s Make It Love (MIL).

As for the Top 5 this week, we have ONEUS’s To Be Or Not To Be in the top spot! It has been three weeks since the song came out. But no matter how late, it was still worthy and epic enough for the top spot! Following behind ONEUS is CRAVITY’s Flame, followed by last week’s top song, CLC’s Helicopter. In the fourth and fifth positions, we have two of this week’s new releases – YooA’s Bon Voyage and Taemin’s Criminal. For more of the charts, scroll down below.
