Dear Santa – SNSD-TTS

SNSD-TTS has returned with their very first Christmas album. Oh sigh… More songs to remind me that the year is about to end. But anyway, this song is okay. It seems to be a mess to my ears. I was perfectly okay with the track being the ballad. Yeah, would have been a slow song and that does not seem to be TTS’s style, but the start was amazing. However, it just suddenly changed and I am still trying to get used to it. But I can’t even say the song “dropped the beat” or whatever. The rest of the song was just blah to me. I still listen to it, just hoping it will catch on, but at the moment, I cringe when I listen to the song. And then the song attempts to end with a 3 second ballad part at the end, which has me confused. Why would you start off with an amazing ballad sound, change it into a Christmas pop song instantaneously, and the end it as a ballad. I don’t think that formula works that way, and who on earth thought it would work? The vocals are amazing (per usual), but honestly minus their vocals, everything else was a major let down. It just sounds like a complete mismatch. If the two were split up into two different songs, I think that would have been many times better than just the one. And Tiffany’s “Come On” parts. Wow.

The lion returns. He is still rejected by the girls after what happened in Lion Heart, so it was unexpected that he would make a return in this video. But beside the lion, it was an okay video to watch. Loving the start where the girls are in those beautiful red dresses. It matched the ballad feel the song had at the start. Then the girls get transported through a portal (in the form of an invitation) into a more playful world. Hmmm… I don’t know but that just screams desperate to me. Desperate to find some kind of way to put the girls into a fast and upbeat feel. And everything in between was okay. But honestly, them acting cute. I don’t see it in them anymore and they just looked so awkward acting surprised in a cute way. And then the ending where they all share a laugh. It looks so forced. It looked unnatural and looked cringe-worthy.

As for the performance, I have no bad comments. Removing the song, the mime was an excellent way to make the stage more unique and suits the time of the year that they were singing. Somewhat disappointed that they are promoting for such a short amount of time though (1 week. They already finished)

Overall, highly disappointed. If only they decided to cut the song into two, I would have been happy. 2/10

I – Taeyeon (SNSD) ft. Verbal Jint

This song is jaw dropping amazing. The whole mini album is amazing. I literally have no complaints with this song. Her voice suits this style so much. There are no flaws. From her vocals to her singing style, to the instrumental, to the chorus. Everything went well with each other and flowed amazingly. Her voice just blows you away and it makes you wonder, why on earth did SM not give her any solo work (beside OSTs) that showcase her vocals like this in the past 8 years? I am not a fan of individual members of SNSD, but this just takes her to another level. Verbal Jint’s rap was just the right amount of soul and rnb that was needed for the song and his addition to the song made it have that more soulful and reflective vibe.  I love the guitar sounds and that band contribution from the song. To me, it is a perfect KPOP song. It is unique and has its own colour. I am going to stop here because I feel like I am ruining the song. Just listen to it and her mini album.

The music video is beautiful. The camera angles and cinematography is amazing. The scenery and the outdoor shots were so beautiful. I need to visit New Zealand. Living next door, I should just do it sometime in a few years.  As for her café song, you get a sense that she is singing about letting it all go and enjoying life as you should believe it. Her brother made an appearance, but it seemed to take people by surprised. While I have not said much (and cannot think of anything else to say), I think this video would have to be one of the most beautiful videos ever shot by SM (and that is saying a lot).

There was no dance, so I am going to skip over this part.

Hands down. This has to be one of the most beautifully sounding comebacks of the year. Sometimes I feel like I dislike SNSD, but this is one of the times that I am just speechless with what they have given me. 10/10 (any day!!!)

You Think – SNSD

I promised and I delivered. Always. Hahaha.. This is the second song of their comeback for their album. Yesterday, I reviewed Lion Heart. So let’s continue the jam packing year for Girl’s Generation. There is a poll at end for you all, so stick around.

I fall in love with any electro song that SNSD puts out. I was a mega fan-boy when I first heard Mr.Mr and was totally digging Catch Me If You Can. This is amazing. This song is on point. This song is fleek. Yes, yes yes. This song any day over Lion Heart. That is what my opinion is. I would say, you can kill me for my choice, since it seems most of Korea don’t really think You Think is that great, but I just solved a massive maths problem that has troubling me for weeks, so I want to submit it. NERD OUT. But honestly, why isn’t this song at the top of the charts? Okay, maybe the song can use a little tweaking, but so far, what we are presented with is good enough to satisfy me for some time. The instrumental and their high pitch vocals in this song go well and hand in hand with each other. The ad-libs during the chorus were really cool. The rapping is pretty good as well. Not as great as in Lion Heart, but good enough. The one thing about the song that erks me is towards the end. The members just seem to sing over each other. Like during the start and the chorus, there is a member who handles the chorus and then the one who does the ad-libs. But, the ending, there seemed to be like 5 members or so singing at once. And that really got to me. And while it sounds good, I just couldn’t handle it. But beside that, this is a song that is on point.

For the music video, there is something that is missing between this video and Lion Heart. We see posh and mature girls in the Lion Heart video and then we get this sexy video for this song. And it totally fits. But I want to know what made them go for the 180 degree change. Not 360, because you will be at the starting point again. While I love the tunnel/abandoned rail-way scenes and the girls dressed in black, them colourful scenes where the girls just sit around and where long elegant dresses, really don’t fit in with the overall feel of the song. Yeah , they look sexy and all but I don’t really find singing to yourself in a mirror and singing the lyrics “You think you’re so cool?” matching. And it seems like the producer just brought the jewelled car along for looks. There is not need for it. I would have been fine with those scenes of them in black leather and the abandoned rail rail-way. It adds mysterious. It makes me ask “why do you think you’re so cool?”. The lounging around in jewellery does not have that same effect on me.

The dance. Wow. Seohyun’s ummm… leg spreading on the floor. Wow. Ummm… DAMN. Never knew she was so flexible before. I am amazed. As for the rest of the dance, I think they did a pretty good job. They managed to make me go wow. And I am sure it made loads of other people go wow as well.

This particular song. They owned it. From the song to the dance, they were totally on point. Once again, the video was not that great. Well half of it. 8/10

My question is: Which 2015 Girl’s Generation song that has been released was your favourite? You have 4 options. Choose wisely.

Lion Heart – SNSD

I guess Party time is now over, and Girl’s Generation is back for some serious business. But they must first tame the Lion Heart to be able to continue on their quest. Wow, I am so bad at this pun game. But yes, 2015 seems to be an eventful year for the girls, as they have made their comeback (once again) in a matter of weeks after their Party promotions ended. Earlier in May, they released Catch Me If You Can as a single, Party as a single and now their full album is out with double title tracks. Lion Heart is one, while You Think (review should be out tomorrow) is the other title track.

When I first heard the song, I thought “Oh Boy, another Dancing Queen track”. It is probably the one song that I still absolutely dislike in KPOP. But after a few listens, who would believe this song grew so much on me? Now I look forward to listening to the song every single day. It is a much more classy song for the girls, that really hinder their talents. However it is a style that I think does suit the girls pretty well. It is a very happy and bright song for the group that to me just reminds me of smiles. Their vocals fit the song pretty well, and it seems something that would have came out back in the day. But the chorus, it is pretty cringe worthy. Not that it is bad, it just does not have that same punch as other Girl Generation song. Not going to say it was boring, as the song does go into different tempos throughout the song (that or my ears are playing jokes on me). I felt like the “Oh Oh Oh Oh” parts should have been replaced with something else and the bridge could have been so much better. That small rap part at the end of the song probably was my highlight for the song. If Hyoyeon rapped like that in every other song, I would totally dig it. Great song though, just some bits I am not that fond of.

As for the music video, I am going to say it was boring. I liked nothing about it. Though the girls look like they went through a transformation. I don’t know. Their past songs (and their more recent songs) compared with what they look like this video, kind of didn’t match up. Not saying they looked bad or anything a long the lines of that, but going from Party to the 1930s is a pretty big jump, in my point of view. It was very interesting. But anyway, the pizza at the start looked very nice. I aml hungry now. It just find the whole idea of them falling in love with a lion’s face and human body really odd. Though it fits in with the song and all, but it just really weird and well, out of this world. Their acting in this video is not their best. It felt cliché and really over dramatic. But I guess, for the laughs.

As for the dance, I am impressed. The girls managed to combine sexy and classy very well in this dance. I don’t think anyone expected the chorus, with their leg spreading. I really love how they changed positions throughout the dance as well. As for their costumes and outfits, wow, they make the girls look amazing.

Overall, a pretty nice comeback. Great song and dance. Music video, not so much. 6.5/10. You Think’s review should be out tomorrow.

My question is: Which 2015 Girl’s Generation song that has been released was your favourite? You have 4 options. Choose wisely.

Party – SNSD

SNSD has finally made their return as the Queens of KPOP with a brand new album. Party is their first title track and was released on the 7th of July. Their second title track will be Check and that has yet to be released, but will come out shortly after their promotions kick off. They previously released Catch Me If You Can back in May as a pre-release for their new album. Not much has happened since then though enough for me to say anything else here. So on with the review.

This song is very boring. Yeah, it has the summer sound to it and it is also quite fresh. But it really does not appeal to me. Neither does it make me want to go back. The song gives off the same feel as Katy Perry’s California Gurls track she released a few years back. But beside that, it is just so boring and really does not reel me in. The vocals were okay. They could have been better. I guess I am not used to the bright sound of SNSD that much. I like songs such as Mr.Mr by SNSD. This just disappoints me. The instrumental alone is pretty good, but the vocals don’t make the song outstanding or anything that I personally expected from the band.

There are two parts of the music video. One I like quite a bit and the other not so much. The part I liked was 70% of the video. And it was those lovely shots captured in Thailand. They look amazing and capture the summer feel very well. Not flak on the bikinis (hmmm…) but it seems like the girls are having fun and I liked it a lot. As for the inside scenes where they dance, wow. It looks so cheap. Let’s just hang up some balloons in a club and make it professional. Well to me, it looks like something that had no budget. And honestly, the outside scenes were very bright and then they just change to the club scene and it is dark. Kind of conflicting and doesn’t really suit each other that well.

The dance was okay. There wasn’t anything flashy about it and I don’t really have much to comment on. If this becomes the more promoted track, then I would expect a more interesting dance, but from what I have heard, Check will become the main title track.

So overall, not feeling the song. Music video was okay, though some parts looked cheap. Dance was okay. I hope Check makes up for the bad points. 4/10

Rewind: April 2015

Apologies, it has been nearly a month. Haven’t forgotten these, just been so busy with so much work and studying that I had to push this back so many times. But now, let’s get on with this. This segment recaps the news of last month (April 2015) and let me put my thoughts into each news. This is so badly worded. I am doing this prior to my bed time, so sorry if nothing makes sense. I also lists my favourite songs of the month, and it was very hard for this month. You will be very surprised. Let’s get on with it!!! (yes, I rushed the preview picture. It looks bad, I know. I say sorry in advance!!)

EXO Tao’s departure rumours

Yes, I guess it won’t be 2015 until something EXO related pops up. I believe each Rewind has featured an EXO story so far, and that I kind of concerning, because I don’t think any have been any good for the band. But unfroteutely, there are rumours with another member, Tao. He was injured during promotions of Call Me Baby and he was allowed to return China where he got his time to rest and heal. But while his time in China, there were reports that his father talking with SM Ent to cancel Tao’s contract and according to Tao’s father, Tao gave in and is now wanting the contract to be cancelled. Not that I am opposing Tao’s father, but if you are asking your son to reconsider his job after he has explicitly said that he will forever be with EXO is kind of mean considering what has happened with the band in the last year or so. I understand he is concerned and I don’t doubt him for that. But is just seems sudden like there is something else that fans the public don’t know about it. That is my idea of the whole thing. All we know now is that Tao has left for America and we don’t really have any word from any side. Let’s hope that the talks between the two parties come out with a favourable outcome for Tao, his family, EXO L’s and also the company. Maybe a little hiatus for a few months? But then again, I think that is what he is going through.

Jinusean makes their first comeback in almost 12 years

Yes, legendary duo Jinusean made their comeback with Tell Me One More Time (featuring Jang Han Na) in April. No review for it, but is is a pretty solid song. If you don’t know, the band consists of Kim Jin Woo and Noh Seung Hwan. They basically were one of the first bands in South Korea to bring out the hip hop genre of South Korea and is still managed by YG Entertainment. They did pretty well with their comeback. They topped charts and ranked quite high on charts for a very long time (until other artists made their comeback though). I like the song a lot. Just YG promised Big Bang first, so I was very disappointed, but hey Big Bang ended up making their comeback in May.

Another couple of SNSD

Yuri and baseball player Oh Seung Hwan are reportedly dating. I think it was confirmed by SM but I am not too sure. But if they are, don’t worry about fans and date comfortably. I don’t think Girl’s Generation is a suitable name for them anymore. Best of luck for the couple!!!

EXO’s Instagram dilemma

With rumours of EXO Tao’s departure, some EXO members have gone to some extreme length regarding their instagram accounts. Firstly, Kai opened his prior to the comeback, but while in promtoions, deleted it. From what many speculate that Kai’s account has nothing to do with the rumours and was just a promotion stunt to get more people aware of their comeback. But Lay deleted all his photos and Xiumin deleted his account after a very long time on the social media site. We just will never know if this is in anyway related to the rumours regarding Tao. Let’s hope not. BUT it became a bigger problem, with Tao wiping “EXO” from his profile. Ahh, EXO. What is going to happen to you guys??? Like I said, we will never know what happened, but all this makes rumours sound like they are the truth. But let’s hope not.

Catch Me If You Can – SNSD

It has been over a year since we heard anything Korean from this band. SNSD has had a rough year, with Jessica, now a former member, announcing that she got kicked out of the band. It is a long story, one I don’t want to type out. So essentially, SNSD is down one member, making them an 8 member group. This is the first major release from the band since the shocking news came to light. And some fans have noticed that Jessica was probably meant to be a part of this new song, with footage of her singing the same notes and words from this song. Anyway, it is such a pity she had to leave.

But a review is a review. And this song is freaking awesome. I totally love this song. From start to end, I just love this EDM track. It is pretty full on from the start to the end. Honestly thought that SNSD would have a little problem with this genre, but now, they seemed to do just fine. A new thing that this song attempts is the changing of tempo or the speed of the song. The song is quite fast paced, but it slows down to those part just before the chorus. Vocally and instrumentally, those were most favourite parts. The vocals of each girl was spot on. Even Hyoyeon got more lines this time. I thought this was a song that did a pretty damn good job of distracting me from the lack of Jessica’s  vocals. I think she has her place in the song somewhere, but the 8 girls pulled it off very well this time around.

As for the music video, glad they moved out of the box. Now, I think it time to move out of that square. I honestly have no clue what is going on with the video. Yes, the song fits the scenery and all that quite well. BUT, why on earth are the girls dancing in a the middle of a mining area or an industrial area? It makes little to no sense. I honestly expected a lot more from the video, considering the latest changes that SM has been making to their artist’s music videos. For a song titled as “Catch Me If You Can” and given the fast pace nature of the song, I thought of running away from something, like EXO Baekhyun’s teaser for Call Me Baby. And those orange jackets… They were more like a hit and miss. Sometimes they do it, sometimes they don’t.

The dance for this song was pretty good. I was very impressed. It matched the speed of the song and also the modern nature of the song. I love the different angles of the choreography. The music video had pretty good camera work, which emphasised a lot of the dance moves.

This song and dance was perfect. I would not change it for the world. That is not the case, however, for the music video. Great sometimes, but didn’t do well the rest. 8.5/10

My question is: Which 2015 Girl’s Generation song that has been released was your favourite? You have 4 options. Choose wisely.

Interesting Note: This song was released in both Korean and Japanese. Promotions would only be focussed on the Japanese version though.

Rewind: February 2015

Through this new segment (Finally got to use that one word), we will be looking back at the second month of 2015. I get to rank my top 10 songs. But we also get to look back at other events that happened in the Korean music industry. This way, I can talk about big events in the KPOP industry and rely my thoughts to you all.

YG says comeback for Big Bang will happen in April

This month, YG “promised” us that the first artist to make their comeback would be Big Bang, who has been scheduled for April. Yes, I put “promised” in quotation marks because half the time, we really cannot take his words as the final story. Hopefully, this time Big Bang will make their very long awaited comeback in April and for once Yang Hyun Suk say something we can actually could have relied on. iKON will always be make their debut this year, just we don’t have a clear time frame yet.

Comeback announcement for April?

About 343425946 bands in the KPOP industry have announced their comeback in April. Yes, there have been so many already that I can’t remember. As mentioned above, Big Bang is. Joining them is Girl’s Day, Miss A and Dal Shabet. B1A4‘s sister group will be making their debut in April as well. FT Island is also due to make a comeback in April as well. iKon is also another band rumoured to make their debut in April. As we look further into the future, SNSD and Infinite are both aiming for May comebacks. April is going to be one hell of a month with all the bands coming back for me. And April is going to be one busy month for me already…

Kim Hyun Joong’s Domestic Violence Scandal + Pregnancy rumours

Another turn for the worse for Kim Hyun Joong. Late last year, it was reported that his former girlfriend was a victim to domestic violence attacks from the KPOP star. She sued him for what she had alleged that he has done to her. Now, it was revealed that the former girlfriend had withdrawn the lawsuit and the two proceeded to meet up with each other. Now the ex girlfriend is claiming to be pregnant with Kim’s child as he prepares for military enlistment.  His side has been asking for the girlfriend to come out and do pregnancy tests, which from what I read, she refused (but she ended up,  through her lawyer,  giving out “her” test results). I am going to be honest, this sounds very suspicious on her part. Since she had sued and withdrew the lawsuit basically means she has a free ticket to get away from Kim Hyun Joong. Unless she is that crazy in love for him, this progression in their relationship is putting both parties in a bad light.

Shake That Brass – Amber (F(x)) ft. Taeyeon (SNSD)

F(x) has to be one of the most overlooked bands of Korean Pop. Well, not overlooked by fans but by their own company. Last year, F(x) made their comeback with Red Light, but promotions were cut short after Sulli “went on a hiatus” and that is basically code for “going against your company”. But now, I guess we will see the revival of F(x) with Amber, the group’s resident rapper, making her solo debut with Shake That Brass, which features SNSD’s Taeyeon. Amber is the first member of the group to undergo formal promotions for solo work. Other F(x) members are widely known for their OSTs and also acting works.

I think anyone listening to this song could tell it is very Americanized. There is no KPOP feel to it, but really a very big mass American appeal to it. In my last review, I did talk about the ongoing trend about mashup between various genres. For this song, I think all of the sounds went really well together. This song flowed soundly and I could not feel awkward or did not cringe at some places. Amber’s rap is pretty good and I really love the “na na na”part. That is pretty cool. Taeyeon’s part was okay. I am sure it could have been left out and Amber put in another rapping segment or another “na na na” part. As for the title, I am 100% Amber changed the wording around to avoid getting cricisted and banned from the networks. That or she really wants to shake some brass. Literally. But it was a very catchy songs and those trumpet sounds were really appealing to my ears.

This is one very bright and colourful video. You can tell that Amber brought the youth to her video. I like it how she invited most her friends to the shoot. It is pretty smart and at the same time, shows that she is very connected in the industry. So many people including Jackson, Joon from G.o.D, Rome from C-Clown, Min and Jia from Miss A, Brad from Busker Busker and many more celebrities that I cannot name from the top of my head attended. I love the little comic sound effects that they added in. That laundro-mat scene was pretty interesting. I would like some glasses that gets everyone to party, but that last part was embarrassing. Guess the glasses last only a few times. I like it how they took the gold brass colour and used that throughout the video. I believe in every scene there was something gold or made of brass. Nice video.

The dance was cool. I honestly don’t know what to say. It guess it is catchy. I just can’t really imagine a different dance routine in place of this one.

A very vibrant and colourful comeback. 8.5/10

Catch Up Review #3 -T-Ara, Sistar, SNSD-TAETISEO

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Welcome back to part 3 of these catch up reviews… Today’s theme is girl groups!!!! So many girl groups came back while I was away and there are so many songs that must be reviewed. It is going to be a long few weeks.

Sugar Free – T-Ara

The first ever Korean group attempting the EDM genre and I think it was a smashing hit. Yes, I said smashing. You have a problem? I liked everything about this song. The vocals were nice and the song was really catchy. Any time I need a song to get my blood rushing, especially exercising, I basically turn to this song because it makes really want to work out to the beat of the song. The instrumental also became my ringtone. The music video fitted the electronic feel that the song has and I think it was a great video. Just, maybe they went a little overboard regarding the flashing lights. I also like the choreography. It is pretty simple and pretty addictive. All that sugar sprinkling everywhere. 10/10

I Swear – Sistar

This song is not the best song on this list, but it sounded a lot better than Touch My Body. That said, the song was your average KPOP song. There is nothing flashy about this and there really isn’t much once again. Though, now there is another member getting blocked out. Bora, along with Dasom gets only one part. Disappointing sometimes. The music video came a little under fire due their similarities with Red Light by Tiesto.Be the judge for yourself and check both music video’s outThe dance is pretty average as well. A lot of turning, but it suited the song and the actual feel of the song, as it gave off that “end of summer” feel to it.  6/10

Holler – SNSD TaeTiSeo

Opposite end of the spectrum now. SNSD TaeTiSeo made their anticipated return. Many people liked their comeback. I sadly did not. I was very disappointed with the song. it was bland and not that appealing. I tried my best to get into it, just really did not sit well with me. The song to me was a lot like an average KPOP song. Not that grand or anything that I expect from a billion dollar company (I might be wrong with my figures). As for the music video, I watched it once. The start of it was interesting and the rest, long forgotten memory. If anything that basically proved how boring it was. The dance was not that memorable. I pretty much prefered Adrenaline over this song. Adrenaline was a much better song. 0/10

Wow, I am so bummed out from writing that. Just came home from dinner and I am so tired. Hahaha.. Next review theme is: BIG name boy groups!!!! See you next time…

MrMr – SNSD

Source: http://okpopgirls.rebzombie.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/SNSD-Mr-Mr-MV-20.jpg

The Queens of KPOP is finally back. Girl’s Generation is back on the stage after a year to promote their newest song, Mr.Mr! Their last title track promotion was for I Got A Boy which topped charts instantly and it seems like this song is going to follow suit. But wait, is their rivals coming out? 2NE1?? Oh my! Slaughtering fans in 2014… Anyway, it seems like every song they are going to do will be an instant hit. Regardless of how bad the song is, these girls have established a household name in Korea and probably in many other countries around the world. Hence why they are dubbed as the Queens of Kpop. Yep, because they are the royalties of the industry. I am not sure of their companies plan to promote 4600956320 bands at once. SNSD made their comeback the same week TVXQ started to promote their repackaged album, SM The Ballad recently returned with new faces and next week the new subunit with Key and Woohyun kind of sounds excessive right??? No?? Yes??

I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG! End of story, end of review. We shall all go home now. No, I kid about the review ending. This song is amazingly awesome. This is the song we all wanted ever since The Boys came out. And it seems like The Boys did come out in the end. Everything (well, beside Sunny’s and the other members autotune part before the chorus) sounded really good and catchy. That part with Sunny and stuff sound so whiny and awkward in the whole song. Honestly, that part should have been taken out of the song. Also Hyoyeon did not even get a single part, except for the lead dancer… Kind of mean right? The instrumental sounded so good and it really felt like a song that would have came out back in 2010 when KPOP was really good. But it sounded so freaking modern  as well. The vocals were really cool and the subtle raping during the chorus is really good. SNSD is back!!!

The music video is okay. I found the million filters placed on the video during editing was really excessive and annoying to watch. It felt like the camera did not focus as much on the members of what it was supposed to film. That guy is pretty creepy (and apparently is my age), especially how the girls sit with him, but he seems so distant from them. On top of that, was it really necessary for like everyone is take part in the surgery? Cause it looked like they were more captivated by his looks rather than the real reason why they were in the hospital theatre. But hands down, the sets for the dance and the amazing looks the girls donned in this video for the dancing scenes were freaking amazing. Best part of the video is when they were in that black and white filers with suits and really cool hats. Most amazing part of the whole video. I just loved it.

5-6 years after debut and the girls finally get male back up dancers. Though there really is nothing special about he dance in my point of view, it was still pretty good overall.

9/10. I have to agree, that this is probably be the best song released by the girls promoted on stage since 2010. Though, I should say this now, but there is quite a bombshell. Either today or Wednesday, the next review will be released. But for who??? Take a guess, it probably cost me this website and my KPOP listening friends. Hahahaha…

Dancing Queen – SNSD

dqsnsd

SNSD pre-released this song at the end of 2012 to tease their fans a little bit. However, as a reviewer, I find no parts of this song quite appealing. I guess this would be one of the worse songs ever by any KPOP artists in the world. To learn that people cut this song, and made the girls promote Gee, I was quite happy. Gee was a fantastic song. This however is really really poopy.

Yeah, nothing in this song is quite good. Normally, I would find the chorus quite catchy, but here, I find nothing catchy. Let’s say I found the start really, really bad, and as the song went on, I wondered how this song was competing against Gee. Anyway, the song is like those really cheap songs that you find on the jukeboxes, which have not been updated since the 70’s. This song has its disco roots in it, just it is awful. The girls sound good, but this is not the song for me unfortunately. It also sounds like the girls put too much strain on their voice.

Ah, the music video. Those pants bring it back to the Gee days, however, I find it quite dull. Yes, the set looks dull to me. Anyway, those hats that kind of acted like teasers at the end were hilarious. Don’t know how anyone would mistaken the F-word as an innocent word that 5-year-olds should be saying. Thank god, the music video was released editing out the foul word. To me, bad editing and a bad stylist. Anyway, this music video is not for me.

As for the live, it was okay. I don’t think I will ever see a live performance of this song, as all (or most) SM artists end up lip syncing instead of live for their comeback stages. Yay??

2/10. Lowest score ever. And for those people who say I am bias, Boo. I am not bias. These are my thoughts of the song. I may have put down Dancing Queen, I Got A Boy and The Boys as awful songs, however Run Devil Run, Genie, Gee & Hoot were totally cool songs.

I Got A Boy – SNSD

Source: http://www.allkpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/gg1.jpg

The girls are back with another single after a year a bit. Yes, I did not count TaeTiSeo in that because their are nine members in the actual group, not three which was the number of members in the sub-unit. Ah finally, they comeback with a new song that has me quite excited and “on the edge of my seat”, only to be disappointed after listening to the song. However, with the girls already making their comeback and other big names coming back in January like Sistar 19, CN Blue and debuts like Infinite H, JeA solo debut, Double Yoon and loads more, something tells me that the month of January is going to get really, really ugly (on the charts, of course).

The girls have made a comeback with a fresh style. Of course, it is unique, but to me it actually mirrors The Boys, which to this day, is one of the worst songs by SNSD. This song to me is like a mashup of 4 different genres. Literally, mean that. There is pop, hip-hop, rap and I think I can here a bit of blues and rock. Though the song is fresh, it is not as good as I expected it. Like come on, the girls rapping is quite fine, but the whole song did not sound as good, especially when the song would abruptly end at one spot and start some kind of remix, dubstep kind of chorus. I just wished to say something about the lyrics. The lyrics are smart in some parts, but quite misleading in other parts. Smart part is: towards the end of the song, where Jessica, I think, yells out “Don’t Stop, Let’s bring it back to 140”, it is quite smart, as 1:40 in the actual song is the same part which plays right after Jessica yells out those lyrics. However it is also misleading, as the start says: “Ha Ha! Let me introduce myself. Here comes trouble!”. Is she referring to SNSD as trouble or the guy in the music video as trouble?

Anyway the music video was quite okay. Yes SM and its boxes, but I felt the music video was more lively and happy than The Boys, it was much more colourful, unlike The Boys which was dull. The speech bubble at the start was quite rare. However, I have to note the weird aspects of the music video. The girls all date the same guy. No wonder they got all surprised and jumpy, they probably think that the others going to find out that the guy was cheating on nine different girls, kind of weird. Also, how the girls all cramp themselves at the front door, and try to look through the small glass hole. How the hell can you guys look through the hole, without placing your eyes on the hole, but instead we see like 5 different faces squished above and below each other, while the other four are jumping around to see.

The dance is quite exciting. It is pretty cool and really nice. It feature small groups in the dance who are like having a dance battle to their own music. I also like the part at 2:52. They seem to improve a lot and seem to be much more coordinated.

6/10. It was much better than The Boys. Quite disappointed. Let’s just say, SM has changed the girls a lot.

Twinkle – TAETISEO

Song

TAETISEO is the new subunit of Gril’s Generation. Now, I have to be honest but Girl’s Generation lastest song is not that good in my books. Not really a big fan of “The Boys”. But “Twinkle” is something totally different to The Boys. The song is something I would actually find the 9 members to sing, nor did I expect Tiffany, Taeyeon & Seohyun actually sing this song. I actually thought it did not suit the girls style and genre. I must say I am totally wrong. They pulled off the song really well and their vocals in this song is really superb. The whole song was really good. As soon as the video loaded on YouTube, I could not press pause. There is no rap in this song and actually nowadays, I think the rap is overused in most KPOP videos. Some videos have the rapped out of placed or does not even blend in with the colour of the sound.

It is a catchy song and I really enjoyed the start of the song because it was different. It is very hard to find a music video or song that is a standout in the KPOP industry nowadays.

Music Video

Now to be honest, I did like the video however I did not like some parts in this video. Now, at the start, the girls are celebrities and you can tell with the large amount of paparazzi at the door of the theatre. But poor guy who has kind of awkwardly walking around when the group split in the two groups. Also, is he part of EXO. I think he is, since the other guys in the music video were too, part of EXO I really did not like this idea. Seriously, I know SM is trying to promote EXO but seriously, I am actually sick of seeing EXO-K now because of the 35685478956689 teasers and prologue singles. They have been in the spotlight for a bit too long and actually grown tired of them. Their song is good but yeah…

Now, I actually did not notice this, but there are 6 back up dances. Plus the three girls and there is 9 people on stage. Look at Girl’s Generation. 9 people usually on stage with NO back up dancers. Is SM trying to hint something here? I really don’t know, but there was also an article on ALLKPOP which said and I quote “3 is enough?”. If this subunit does stop Girl’s Generation from promoting as a whole group, I will be pissed. Seriously. Beside that and the cute little dog, nothing much will be said.

Live Performance

I actually don’t find anything really good with the music video. There is not much to say abut it anyway. It was not exciting but it was also good.

And The Rating?

7.33333/10. Okay music video and performance. Great song.

Have Fun Listening. Troy 😀

The Boys – Girl’s Generation (Kor. Ver.)

This review will basically will be the same as the English Review (Click Here) so some parts may be copied and pasted. However I have noticed a few extra things while watching the music video. So here we go.

Song

The song is basically like the English version but some parts in Korean while the chorus remains the same. While the song in the Korean sounded a bit weird since I got used to the English version, I found that it had a flow to it. The English Version sounded a bit like dead zombies when I compared to it. However I do prefer the English Version of the Korean. LOL, its because I can understand a KPOP song for once.

English

Ah, at least this version does not need criticisms over “Call an emergency” LOL.

Music Video

The Music Video here is exactly the same as the English Version (which I have linked above) however I did noticed a few things. According to what I know, diamonds can not float and therefore this can not be happening –

Hmmm. And that dove with no symbolism which is floating in slo-mo? They film as if the dove actually fell to the ground and to save time and money they slow the dove down so it look like the dove can actually fly. I know it sounds weird but its my thinking. And I think weird…

Live Performance

Same as always. Check out the English version article. It is linked above.

Anything Else

Lose the “Box concept” please.

And Rating?

Not the best, could have been improved —-> 5/10.

Have Fun Watching. Troy 😈

The Boys – Girls Generation (Eng. Ver)

Okay, this is the first song to be chosen by you guys. It was hard to choose between them. Anyway, onto the review.

Song

Now as this states, I will be reviewing the English version of the song. I may do the Korean Ver. tomorrow or sometime during the next 4 days (Long Weekend). I only have 3 letters to say. WTF????? What is this? Is this Girl’s Generation? Like, who would do such a thing. They have great songs like Gee, Hoot, Genie, Oh. But The Boys is really is not a great song however a crappy song. I don’t want to be mean but the song just is not really that catchy and is not really that good. Please bring them back next time with a better song!

MV

I sense a lot of criticism with this area. However I have to say they look stunning  in everything they wear. But hell does SM Ent. have to lose the “box concept”. All they added this time was snow, rose petals and a big diamond in the background. Oh yeah, the dove ruined it for me. Why would they introduce such an animal to the music video. What is it meant to represent? Now I don’t have anything against animals just the dove has no meaning to this music video.

I also prefer the music video teaser. They were much better then the music video itself. It looked cool. The music video of=n the other hand was just boring and a waste of time.

English

Woah, the English? Must I even get started on this? I don’t wanna. I can tell you my contention with the English. “Call an emergency.”

Live Performance

With that said, the live performance is not that much different to the music video. The only difference is that it is live. The dance was pretty cool, especially the chorus and the “Girls, Bring the Boys out” part. But yeah, Box concept all over again.

Anything Else

*Shakes Head* It could’ve been way better.

And the rating

Not the best, could have been improved —-> 5/10.

Have Fun Watching. Troy 🙂

For some reason, The English version is moving over to a Vevo account and is blocked im Australia. So I have linked the Kor. Ver instead.
