Rewind: February 2015

Through this new segment (Finally got to use that one word), we will be looking back at the second month of 2015. I get to rank my top 10 songs. But we also get to look back at other events that happened in the Korean music industry. This way, I can talk about big events in the KPOP industry and rely my thoughts to you all.

YG says comeback for Big Bang will happen in April

This month, YG “promised” us that the first artist to make their comeback would be Big Bang, who has been scheduled for April. Yes, I put “promised” in quotation marks because half the time, we really cannot take his words as the final story. Hopefully, this time Big Bang will make their very long awaited comeback in April and for once Yang Hyun Suk say something we can actually could have relied on. iKON will always be make their debut this year, just we don’t have a clear time frame yet.

Comeback announcement for April?

About 343425946 bands in the KPOP industry have announced their comeback in April. Yes, there have been so many already that I can’t remember. As mentioned above, Big Bang is. Joining them is Girl’s Day, Miss A and Dal Shabet. B1A4‘s sister group will be making their debut in April as well. FT Island is also due to make a comeback in April as well. iKon is also another band rumoured to make their debut in April. As we look further into the future, SNSD and Infinite are both aiming for May comebacks. April is going to be one hell of a month with all the bands coming back for me. And April is going to be one busy month for me already…

Kim Hyun Joong’s Domestic Violence Scandal + Pregnancy rumours

Another turn for the worse for Kim Hyun Joong. Late last year, it was reported that his former girlfriend was a victim to domestic violence attacks from the KPOP star. She sued him for what she had alleged that he has done to her. Now, it was revealed that the former girlfriend had withdrawn the lawsuit and the two proceeded to meet up with each other. Now the ex girlfriend is claiming to be pregnant with Kim’s child as he prepares for military enlistment.  His side has been asking for the girlfriend to come out and do pregnancy tests, which from what I read, she refused (but she ended up,  through her lawyer,  giving out “her” test results). I am going to be honest, this sounds very suspicious on her part. Since she had sued and withdrew the lawsuit basically means she has a free ticket to get away from Kim Hyun Joong. Unless she is that crazy in love for him, this progression in their relationship is putting both parties in a bad light.

Age Height – Two Song Place (Song Eun Yi ft. Song Seunghyun (FT Island))

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Song-Seung-Hyun-Song-Eun-Yi-Age-Height-Teaser-Screencap.jpg

A hot new duo collaboration for those who still have not seen their song. Both of the two are under the same company, FNC Entertainment. And it seems like this duo is quite popular from the reaction that they were given recently. One of them, the female, is actually a comedian, Song Eun Yi, who is ridiculously funny and is all over Korea with the many comedy shows that she participates in. The other half, the male, is actually FT Island’s rapper, Song Seung Hyun! This comeback, stage, song and video are really funny and I urge you guys to check them out.

Though I do not understand a single word in this song, the song itself talks about how guys focuses on more of the age and height rather than personality and other factors. So basically, if your hot and beautiful, more guys are going to take notice in you more than those who are less hot or beautiful. I guess there is more of a meaning when the comedian sings this song. Honestly, even though I understand zilch of the song, I actually find it really cute and catchy. After a few listens, you are bound to be singing along with the song. The song’s instrumental is pretty cool, but the start seems rather awkward. I am not going to judge her singing talent, mainly because this is probably her first time singing, but the Seung Hyun’s raps are pretty cool (The raps also seem to be a response to the lyrics. Just my thought)!

The music video is amazing. Not epic amazing, but hilariously funny amazing. Though I don’t think the parodies have much to do with the song, it fits the comedic concept that they have gone for. They had parody many different top Korean artists in this video. The parodies include: Miss A’s Hush, EXO’s Wolf, EXO’s Growl, Trouble Maker’s Now, Sunmi’s 24 Hours, 2NE1’s Missing You and probably many others that I have yet to pick up. On top of that, the music video contains so many famous comedians in the video such as Park Ji Min and Shin Bora. It is funny because they look all awkward dancing around and stuff. You all should check this video out.

The dance is pretty simple and I actually like it. You are bound to start dancing around when you hear this song as well. Or am I seriously the only one?

9.5/10. Really recommend you guys check it out in the playlist below.

Madly – FT Island

Source: http://i1.wp.com/24-7kpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Screen-shot-2013-11-17-at-1.12.18-PM.png?resize=770%2C472

After promotions for their 5th year anniversary album, with the song Memory, the band has made their comeback promoting Madly. It is so nice to see the band (or in fact any instrument playing band) back onto the stage. Though they are not at the top of the charts, the band has continued to promote the song, receiving a lot of love from their fans.

This song is amazing. I love the huskiness of Hongki’s voice which sounds so cool and fits the song really well. I love the orchestral feel to the instrument giving the song that more grand feel. The chorus is quite catchy, I have to say that. I love how the song breaks down into a more rock ballad type of song after the first chorus. I really like how Hongki’s voice has that really good feel to it, where is matches the song perfectly. His high note at the end was extraordinary. You can feel the emotion in the song as soon as you feel it. The song itself speaks about  how bad this guy regrets leaving his girl. I personally like this song. Not sure why some people think there is autotune in this song. I can only pick out one part that had autotune, but it is not that bad to complain about it.

The music video is really nice. Not sure about the setting though. In the middle of no where, with long grass growing around is not really a great way to show regret and love. Especially when you have set up big lights and a drum kit to make the band perform in the wild. I don’t mind the acting. Jonghun does an amazing job at aimlessly wondering around the desert, which fits the song. But complaint is the band performing the the field. Though I am one to complain a lot about slow starters, I think the whole music video was done well. Jonghun slowly walks around for most of the song, looking like a lover who is in regret, but when the song approaches the climax of the song, he starts to run and the scenes changes according to the drum beats. That is pretty cool. Also the blurring effect when he runs accompany his speed. In the end he runs to the point where he cannot run anymore and collapses. I guess he yearns to see his lover, so we see the girl caring for him, but really it is just his imagination. Amazing video.

9.5/10. Really great. FT Island does it again. This ballad this time around carries so much emotion and looks amazing.

Memory – FT Island

Source: http://static3.allkpop.com/upload/2011/10/20111012_ftisland_encore.jpg

FT Island has finally made their anticipated comeback after nearly a year with Memory. The song along with the mini album is celebrating their 6 year anniversary. 6 years??? That is quit a long time, and this is coming from a teenager which has spent approx. 12 years in school. One more for me. And hopefully plenty more years for the band. This is the type of song that I enjoy listening to from this band. Much better and amazing than their Spanish ballad stuff they have been releasing in the past few years.

As I said the song is much better than than I Wish or Severely or any of their ballads from the past. I loved the rock feel it has, which makes it so good. Seriously, to remember 6 years, this song would be the perfect song to do so. I am also quite happy that they gave more parts to Jaejin, I think that is his name. He did not get much in Severely and only a small section in I Wish, so this time around, giving him more parts as the rapper was pretty cool. I also love the keyboard/piano feel of the song and the softness of the voice at the start. But those parts where he is like “Love Is Painful” need that little autotune part in the background.  Beside that though, I am quite satisfied with this song. Nothing too much to complain about.

The music video is quite boring. Nothing exciting here. Just clips of them being them. Honestly, I would have expected something like screens of their past music videos to commemorate their past and some images of fans, but instead just them playing on stage and stuff like that,  So yeah, music video is a no no.

As for the performance, I think we only get to see them for a week or two. AOA is making their comeback on the 10th and the company did say that the girls will be making their comeback after FT Island promotes, so we only see FT island for a short amount of time. In terms of stage, I love Inkigayo and MCountdown’s stage. Really amazing and fitted the song. Different to the usual boring stages that we see.

And that takes us to the end of the review. Score? 8.5/10. Really great comeback. Let’s hope AOA can do equally as great or even better!

I Wish – FT Island

Source: http://24-7kpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/iwish.jpg

Wow, they are back if a new song. Though this is a band, which I am not really fond of in KPOP, they made pretty strong and good comeback, despite the amount of really good acts they must compete with in order to get an award. But hey, they won a M CountDown award already, who knows what they can achieve!

The song starts off with a Spanish / MExican feel with the guitar. I was shocked, because I thought it was going to be something like Hello hello or Like The Birds. I listened through the first verse, not really keen on the new sound, and then it goes straight to it glory. The KPOP feel explodes in the chorus, which is pretty good. I liked the rest of the song, which was a complete repeating the process, and Hong Ki (Is that how you spell it?) had really powerful vocals. The only thing that I was disappointed in was the rap part. The guitar business there did not feel as good and great as the other parts, and kind of sounded awkward with the rap. But overall the song was pretty good.

Okay, when I first watched the music video I was confused. I could not tell the plot of the video from just watching the video. I had to search it up with the lyrics. Kind of weird hey. But my first initial thought was: Why would the girl date the guys from the same band, in the same house? Kind of weird as well, hey. Well, to be honest, I still actually don’t get the music video, even though I ow know the guy (or guys) want to be another to woo the girl. Yeah, confusing right?

The live was alright. I like the boxes which they stood on. Beside that, yeah it was alright.

7/10. Someone should really make the live more interesting. Back up dancers might work. Only a suggestion.

Like The Birds – FT Island

Okay, this song is really calm and peaceful to listen into Spring ( or Autumn, if your in the Northern Hemisphere). It is very refreshing however  the music video does not reflect the tune or rhythm of the song. The desert is a place that is very dry, hot and isolated. this songs sounds like calm, cool, connected song.

I also did not realize that this song was a remake of another song. If i had not read that, I would’ve thought this was their actual song that they wrote. They are that professional, it does not sound like a remake at all. Now there was controversies with the Jeep (?) that they were using, the owner had agreed but withdrawn it from the filming. Seriously mate, if i had a car, i would have given them it. Your car is in a music video. You should be happy.

Again with the desert theme, I really don’t like the fact that they are playing in a desert. It isn’t that cool.  However I do like the old, untouched, abandoned house concept they had at the start. It was very fresh and actually looked professional then those high-tech visual effects that make the music video boring by rival artists.

Okay to rate this song and music video (which I always do) I would give it a 8/10. It was stunning however I don’t really like remakes. Unless I loved the original song or movie. Anyway, FIN.

Hello Hello – FT Island

I find this music video very amusing for a number of reasons. Why? Read on! Now this is a band like CN Blue, very creative and all their music videos can be interpreted in many ways. You get what I am talking about?

Now the plot in this song is pretty weird and muddled. I have to say the police and firefighters are a bit useless. Aren’t they meant to be saving lives not standing there doing nothing? They just let a guy into a burning building. Shouldn’t they be running in there to save him? *Shakes head* I am also thinking he is physic. He did have an image of the building burning before when he walked past it. The whole MV is really amusing. Useless police/firefighters, guy risking his own life to sing with a band in a burning building. I think it is trying to be an unpopular Korean drama set in New York or a tragic and non-funny skit.

The music is very good. I especially like the start when there was only a guitar playing. Nice. the hand movement is very addictive to just point out. I kept doing it when I say hello to people. LOL. The bridge of the song is also addictive. “Everybody say La, La, La. Everybody say  Ha, Ha, Ha. . .”

Apart from the plot of the music video, I loved the song. To rate I would give a 7/10. 😀
