[Review] Doo Doom Chit – Crayon Pop

Crayon Pop has returned with their first album ever. After their number 1 hit, Bar Bar Bar put the spotlight on the girls, they have garnered a lot of attention for their somewhat odd yet cute concepts. Their catchy songs have garnered attention from a lot of people. So it’s about time that they release their first album and with it comes their next title track, Doo Doom Chit.

Another song that South Korea is probably skipping out on. This song has the ability to be the next big hit, but sadly, it hasn’t yet. This ticks off all the key characteristics that made Bar Bar Bar such a hit. It is really catchy and addictive to listen to. The song, while still keeps to the cute sound that the girls have been known for, digs deeper into the roots of EDM. It also has a hint of retro in the song’s instrumental as well. I also love the incorpartion of the saxphone in the chorus. Really gets you into the song. The rapping is surprisingly good in this song and suits it perfectly. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but still give it a try. The only thing I would change with the song is the chorus. Unfortunately, I think the chorus is a stretch for the girls. Not saying that they suck at singing, it just different people shines in different tones and volumes. While it sounds perfected (of course) in the audio version, the live version sounds off.

The music video falls onto the boring side. Essentially, in the music video, whenever the saxaphone playing cat comes around and blows into the saxaphone, the girls start dancing the choregraphy for this comeback. Similar to a snakecharming, but with humans and a cat that plays the saxaphone. I guess the video was made to look like wherever the girls go, the cat goes with them. You could tell they had an low budget compared to their last releases. It is also nice to see the girls in something a little more ‘normal’. While those helmets took South Korea by storm in Bar Bar Bar, dressing up as Christmas trees, tracksuits and like country side folks really makes these school outfits ‘normal’. Hahahaha… Also, the girls look really good. I don’t think I ever noticed their visuals before due to their eye catching outfits in the past, but they are all really quite pretty (sorry if I came off rude here).

Dance is really cool Very easy to follow. Somewhat like what we always thought ancient Egyptians danced like. Hahaha… But seriously, a lot of aspects for this comeback mirrors Bar Bar Bar song, even to the choregraphy.

Rating – 7.5/10

FM – Crayon Pop

Crayon Pop has finally returned with a new song. It has been a little over (or maybe under) a year since they came back with Uh-Eee! Since then, they released their first subunit, Strawberry Milk, which debuted with OK! in October last year. Since then we have been hearing rumours of new songs from the band, but we actually never got much from them. Once again, that is all that really has been happening with the girls since their last comeback. I am sure they had a family concert with their label-mates as well. I honestly need to get more in sync with the industry. I get very busy these days.

This song freaking rocks. I have no complaints whatsoever about this song. As soon as I heard it, I was in awe. This is a song that Crayon Pop needs. I don’t care (and probably every other fan) if this song did or did not top Bar Bar Bar n terms of successful-ness and popularity. I loved it. It is just so now and trendy sounding. Okay, maybe the vocals at the start need a little work, but wow. This was one hella of a song. There was techno feels to it to match the concept they were going for. Apparently, the group have no idea what FM (in terms of this song) actually stands for. It would be quite depressing if the song actually did stand for Frequency Modulation (thank you physics!). The rapping was pretty good and I actually never thought someone in the group could pull that high note at the end off. I loved the chorus. It is so catchy that I replay the song for that part. It is sad that this song isn’t doing as great as we all want it to, but either way, it is still a rocking song that you will enjoy.

The music video was amazing. Being me, I had this fanboy moment, not over Crayon Pop, but actually the theme. Not a big fan of Sailor Moon or Halo, which this music video’s concept comes from. But I am a REALLY BIG FAN of Power Rangers. This whole music video was like a throwback to me and probably all 90s kids. Like who didn’t like Power Rangers (that is unheard of). I love their costumes. From Sailor Moon and Power Rangers, the girls looked really cute. There really isn’t a plot, but I love the setting of the music video. Essentially what they did was copy and paste from their inspirations and that I what I think I enjoyed about from this video. I am going to be honest, but the CG effects look mega cheesy in this video for some reason. So cringe worthy. Kind of shocked that I used to like these things back in the day.

The dance is so catchy. I love the very start where they would literally “strike a pose” and also the dance for the chorus. I think overall, this has to be one of the best dances. Not the most memorable, but it is very a nice set of choreography.

From start of end, I loved this comeback. Everything was amazing. Minus one or two minor details, and this would have been a prefect comeback. 9.5/10

Rewind: March 2015

Through this new segment (Finally got to use that one word), we will be looking back at the third month of 2015. I get to rank my top 10 songs. But we also get to look back at other events that happened in the Korean music industry. This way, I can talk about big events in the KPOP industry and rely my thoughts to you all.

Lee Min Ho and Suzy Dating

This by far is the biggest news of March 2015. Just a few days ago, it was confirmed by both companies that Miss A’s Suzy and Hallyu actor Lee Min Ho are officially dating. More importantly, JYP (Suzy’s company) have announced that Suzy would not avoid questions regarding the couple. Now, usually companies try to “Hush” the rumours, so I thought it was a little wierd that JYP would say Suzy would be answering all questions. Though I get that both companies would have to confirm due to the evidence presented, but I think JYP is milking everything they can out of this big piece of news. Dating in the industry is going to be hard but I wish the very best for the two. Now let’s move along with Miss A‘s comeback, shall me?

Red Velvet First Win

The subheading says it all. Congratulations to Red Velvet on their first music show win. At the time I am writing this, they actually have won 4 music show awards. Their latest song is ________________________________________________________________. Sorry. Let’s leave this here and wait for the review to come out. Soon. I promise. I am not YG. It will come soon. Like next week probably.

2AM Members Change Companies

Another big piece of news with the 2AM members splitting up with their company. No, they are not disbanding (though it sounded a lot like it at first) but 2AM members have decided to go with different companies. Jo Kwon decided to stay with JYP Entertainment. Seulong decided to go with SidusHQ and Jinwoon decided with Mystic Entertainment. Changmin signed with Big Hit after his contract ended with JYP last year (I think?). This kind of says something about JYP Entertainment, but at the same time, we should be glad the ballad group are not going away for now. Let’s hope 2AM comebacks with a new song with this different formation with companies. (On a side note: all 2PM members – contract ended around the same time – resigned with JYP).

Comebacks for April

BIG BANG HAS BEEN CONFIRMED!!! Though, not exactly sure when the comeback is exactly. But BIG BANG HAS BEEN CONFIRMED to be the first YG artist making their comeback in 2015. On top of that, EXID will be making their comeback. Miss A and EXO just made their comeback at the end of the month. Dal Shabet, Mamamoo, Cross Gene have also be confirmed. SNSD (Girl’s Generation) will also be making their comeback in May BUT they will be releasing a track during April in both Japan and Korea.

Yewon and Lee Tae Im Scandal

This scandal I am not familiar with. Essentially what happened is that Yewon spoke informally to Lee Tae Im. After Lee Tae Im got angry and left, Yewon decided to curse out at Lee Tae Im, and hence causing this controversy. Essentially, Yewon is more of a younger person in the industry, so she had to be formal. I get it sometimes. I come from as Asian background and sometimes I don’t think the formality thing is right. Just because they are older does not mean they are right. Imagine this: the older person is cursing the daylights out of you and your loved ones, and you “disrespectfully” defended yourself and your family. Is the older person right and you are at fault? Though this is not what had happened, it seems like the industry zooms in on one part and leave the rest out for every bad situation. We don’t know 100% what happened. We will never know what 100% happened. Something could have happened before that got both angry. Those are just my loosely put together thoughts on the whole thing. Maybe Yewon is in the wrong. But what if she isn’t? Remember I am not siding with her. I am just being “opened minded” about things.

Uh-ee – Crayon Pop

Source: http://www.asianjunkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/CrayonPopUhEeMV.png

Odd name for a song hey? But if you want something wacky and literally out of this world, it seems like Crayon Pop got you covered. After Lonely Christmas and their hit song Bar Bar Bar, the band has finally returned with a new song, Uh-ee. This time they are taking everything to a whole new level. Going for something I don’t think anyone has ever seen, these girls managed to pull such a proud concept. On top of that, they are also ranking quite high on the charts and their fan charts also show off the popularity Korean fans and international fans have for them. As they all say: Crayon Pop will slay. I also apologise for my absence. This should have come out a few days ago (aka. Monday) however I have been so busy. I have finished majority of my homework, still have quite a bit to go. And I lose Easter break because of family functions.  But hey, here I am eating grapes and writing this review. So don’t judge.

This song is so freaking addictive to listen to. I am sorry, but is it me or this song is not getting enough publicity? Hands down, this is the best song currently this month and I think it is definitely award worthy. We get this video game type of instrumental which sounds freaking amazing. As soon as I heard the song, I just think to myself “Why does my body want to dance so suddenly?” Like this song will get you up and moving about. The vocals for this song goes hand in hand.  The instrumental only part at the start was freaking cool. The chorus is cool. Don’t you just want to sing along? And Way’s rapping is totally awesome. There is one complaint I have to make. I think Crayon Pop is relying too much on Bar Bar Bar to do anything now. Lonely Christmas had the “Pop Pop Pop” part in it and this song ends with a Bar Bar Bar sequence as well. Though I am not sure if the lyrics fits the song or not, but to me, it seems like the band is getting a little too far with piggy backing on a song that earned them fame.

The music video is pretty cool. We get a ball like theme, as the girls trade their helmets for really stunning black dresses, which I find really suits them. They look so adorable. Then the song starts and they breaking up the party with their really cool “Ahjumma” style clothing, with those scarves on their heads. Basically something you would find in the Korean country side. I just love all the aspects in this music video. We can see a clear distinct or well-funded. No more white screens backdrops for these girls, they are out in the real world guys. Something I think many entertainment companies must think about. One minor complaint, and that is towards the bald guy. Yeah, he seemed a little annoying in the whole music video mainly because he seemed to be the odd one out and jumping around as if he was the 6th long-lost member of the group. Wait a minute…

The dance is really cool. The chorus was amazing and I have to say those the steps are quite easy, I think the start of it was the best part. Fitted the feeling of the song emphasising the strong fun feel from the song. Bar Bar Bar is really good for your legs, and this dance is probably really good for cardio. I am not fitness expert, but this song and dance might actually work.

Small complaints here and there, but still an awesome comeback. Award worthy right here. 9/10

‘End Of Year Music Festivals’ Favourite Performances

Woah, 2013 is over (Soz, a tad late) and each year KPOP fans always end up looking forward to the end of year music festivals. These “festivals” are held on the final days of the year by the 3 major boradcasting companies of South Korea (ie. KBS, SBS, MBC). It is a stage where the artists who are active during the year can come together and celebrate by putting on some music and performing different stages from the ones that they had promoted during the year. So this means there are many different collaborations between artists or remix stages which would have fans screaming for. Because there happens to be little songs to review at this time of the year (end of Jan, don’t ask why), I thought I do this and release it in time for the Vietnamese (Or Chinese) New Year!!!!!

KBS Gayo Daechukje

  • Honestly, I was not satisfied with any of the collabs. They seem to be a last minute thing which made the show rather messy. They had good songs, but Iw as not satisfied with the way they were presented.
  • Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar was a good stage. The start got everyone hyped up and when the song actually started, boy was the screams loud! It was rather fresh and different stage that everyone must’ve had enjoyed.
  • EXO’s Intro + Growl sounded amazing. Now if only they were not replayed 563495630295634092560 times this year and everyone talking about them, I would not think poorly of them. However the intro and the performance was really good.
  • APINK was one of the few bands to throw in a new instrumental for their “sexy version” of No No No. I enjoyed the dance and I liked the new mix.
  • Beast had a pretty cool stage as well. They kept their normal instrumental but made something interested out of it.
  • Sistar’s “femme fatale” Give It To Me looked really good. Minus the not so good looks of the dancers, I really liked their dance break and Dasom has my heart beating even faster.
  • Miss A’s remixes were amazing this year. I like them much better than the actual song. Amazing right?Well, honestly it is just a new instrumental over some parts and then the actual song itself. And Min, walking away like a boss and carrying on singing after getting hit in the face.

SBS Gayo Daejeon

  • First stage which I enjoyed was VIXX’s On & On and VooDoo Doll. I honestly thought that Hyde and On & On would have been a better match, but they still seemed to pull it off pretty well. I think I am turning into a fan. Damn.
  • Z:EA and Nine Muses collaboration stage with Ghost Of The Wind, Glue and finally hit song Bounce was another stage that literally got me into it. It is such a good stage with the two bands together, where it was Nine Muses first time and Z:EA’s second time since debut.
  • Another collaboration stage goes to Girl’s Day and APINK’s Expectation and No No No. Honestly, it seemed APINK had less airtime than Girl’s Day. Not sure about the detail, but it kind seems unfair. But both suited the stage every well singing each other’s song.
  • Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar was pretty good. But the camera work destroyed the good stage.
  • T-Ara had a lot of hate, but I seemed to enjoy this stage. Number 9 but vampire version. Not much change to the song, except for really creepy dance breaks. And BOOOOBSSS!!!!!
  • 2NE1 had an alight stage. Though they just sang Missing You and Do You Love Me?, this still had remarkable stage preference.
  • Taeyang and G-Dragon seemed to had some fun on stage. I liked the lineup of songs they had coming. They sung 1AM, Crooked, Ringa Linga and Bad Boy. Considering that the whole group as not there, they did a good job filling up 3 other parts as well.

MBC Gayo Daejejeon

  • Miss A’s classy club mix for Hush sounded the best and probably has to be my most favourite stage out of all the stages listed here. It sounded to sexy and cool all at the same time.
  • T-Ara’s Number 9 and What Should I Do was a great stage. They combined the two songs into a club beat kind of song which flowed pretty well, considering the two extreme opposites for each song.
  • Ailee’s rapping before her performance , U&I, was da bomb.
  • F(x)’s Rum Pum Pum Pum was pretty good as well. Was not as impressed with the original version though. But the instrumental and ending of this stage was awesome!!! And finally F(x) gets a stage remix for an end of year festival.
  • B1A4’s rock remix for What’s Happening? was also a pretty cool performance. Literally got me going with the beat.
  • Infinite brought a new thing to the stage with Destiny remixed with the instrumental of Deception. Something that was quite unexpected but sounded pretty good despite the two songs sounding completely different.
  • Give It To Me by Sistar was pretty cool as well if the little bit of dubstep (I think) mixed in the song as well. Hyorin’s intro with Sweet Dream was pretty cool.
  • Kara’s medley of songs was pretty good. And considering the departure of two members, it fitted the occasion. They performed Lupin, Step, Damaged Lady, Mister and Honey (not sure about the last one though.

If you watched the performances, which one did you like? Honestly, when I was watching the performances on YouTube, all I thought was that it seemed too much like a normal music show rather than something to be called a “End Of Year Festival”. I think these stages are losing their purpose. But anyway, still a fantastic line-up and amazing stages!!! What were your favourite stages of the three nights?

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM KPOPreviewed!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!!!

It is finally Christmas and I am excited! And the year is already up. Sadly though. However, shall we continue with a more different review this time around? But before that, I just would like to wish everyone who will read this post a Merry Christmas. Enjoy your time, with family, friends or anyone else. Be thankful and be safe. Let’s enjoy the final few days of 2013 and ready to party with 2014. Anyway, today, it is really more of an impromptu review. Not score will be given for these reviews. I have review Lonely Christmas by Crayon Pop and Miracle Of December by EXO. There are however four more Christmas songs that I want to review and today will be three song reviews in one! Shall we get started???

Christmas Song – United Cube

United Cube is back with a lovely slow Christmas song that showcases the groups under A Cube Entertainment and Cube Entertainment. The artists in this song include: Beast, 4Minute, APink, G.Na, Huh Gak, Roh Ji Hoon, BTOB and Oh Ye Ri. Wow that is a lot of artists. Also included is Kim Gi Ri, the comedian for Gag Concert. The song has this soft tune that reminds you of a warm Winter’s night, like Christmas Night. Though the song starts off really slow and it takes quite a while for it enter a more Christmas-like song, by the end, you are bound to remember those warm Christmas nights with your loved ones. I think the rap was handle really well in this song which is pretty good, considering how raps tend to ruin a good song. And the whole song, vocally, sounds amazing.

 Love Falls – Romantic J

Now we are getting into the more festive songs. This song may sound like a love song, which it is. I really love the jingle bell feel of the instrumental and how the vocals in this song are not hard hitting as powerful vocals. Though Jonghyun from CNBlue does not have as much lines as Juniel, the song still sounds amazing. His husky voice fits the tone of Juniel’s voice which makes the song have this beautiful duet. The song is quite addictive and sounds really good. I have been lipsyncing to this song since it came out. Though the music video may seem more of a romantic story, the song still carries the Xmas cheer. Yay! Also, this is a duo that I would love to hear more from.

Winter Propose – Jellyfish Entertainment

This song is the only song that is really close to those Christmas carols we here every year. Not exactly what I like, but it still does. It features all the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment including: VIXX, Seo In Guk, Sung Si Kyung, Park Hyo Shin and also a mysterious female singer (do I hear a singer debuting next year?). This song sounds amazing and really has that festive cheer to the song. It combines all of the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment and amazes me a lot. Though I was not much of a fan of their previous Christmas song and also their more experienced singers, this song gives you that warm feeling that makes you remember Christmas day and eve a lot.

Snow Candy – Starship Planet

The final song which gives off the happiest Christmas feeling of the year. It features Sistar, K.Will and Boyfriend and seems the most enjoyable song out there for memories of family and friends. Again, this song, along with the others vocally sounds amazing and the rap seemed to be handle really well by Bora and the Boyfriend rappers. Of course K.Will and Hyorin holds the main vocal part of this whole company venture, but with this song, I am going to let it slide. The music video also seems to be the most festive one out of the four. Pity that Dasom from Sistar was not a part of the filming, but probably have featured in the he song somewhere. Not sure where though.

Thank you for spending another year with me. Merry Christmas to all, wherever you are on this planet. Be happy and I will see you next time!!!!

Lonely Christmas – Crayon Pop

Source: http://i0.wp.com/24-7kpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Crayonpop.jpg?resize=770%2C472

Crayon Pop is finally back with a brand new single. This is their latest songs after the never ending promotions of Bar Bar Bar, the hottest track of 2013, which earned them their first ever award. Lonely Christmas is the upgraded version of Bar Bar Bar which is expected to become the next trend. And it seems that it is going that way. And don’t you worry. I remember them ranking poorly in the first few weeks of their promotions, but slowly getting higher. I have to say they look extremely cute in this comeback and it seems like people are going a little too far to undermine these girls by saying that every song they come out is plagiarise.

The teaser did not sound as great, despite it was the chorus. But as soon as I started to listen to it, I found that the song was indeed catchy. They probably can get a repeat of success like in Bar Bar Bar. But on that topic, sadly, I don’t think the girls will be able to get rid of their Bar Bar Bar image, as they used a section of the song in this song. Kind of annoying. But I loved the chorus. “Na Na Na Na Na Na Na, Hey!” Hella catchy. Okay, I have to admit it, the girls cannot sing. Well, live. Too much autotune is used in this to show their fans their vocal talent. Am I also the person who thought this song was too short? I did like the solo moment that one member had, after the second chorus. As you can tell, I cannot learn names.

The music video is hella cute. Like come on. After seeing the video and hearing the song, I am sure you all smiled. Or am I just joining the Crayon Pop craze. Not, but it seriously cute. Not too the point where I was screaming at the screen when the member in charged of filming stuffed up big time. I am sorry, but I am going to go on about the level of the cuteness. Mainly because there is nothing to speak about in this video. Like nothing. They probably used the same set where they filmed Bar Bar Bar , but instead added a little background touch to it, to make it look “different”. And I love the back was perfectly made and stuff. Just a letter was missing and a triangle as well. So cheesy.

The dance is so cute as well. Who has their hand moving and legs wobbling when they hear this song? I do!!! Not, but it looks really cool. And catchy.

World trend again? We will soon see, but it seems like the girls are going that way. 9/10.

PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS POST ON MY PAGE. THANKS AGAIN!!! Crayon Pop has been nominated for two categories: Rising Star Of The Year and Best Dance. Cause they deserve it, you know?

Bar Bar Bar – Crayon Pop

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Screen-Shot-2013-06-25-at-2.08.40-PM.png

Crayon Pop recently made their comeback (over 2 months ago) with their latest single taking Korea and the international audience by storm. When they released the single when it first came out, did not perform as well on charts. However now, they are ranking in the top 10, reaching up to third place on some weekly music shows and achieving 1st place on so many other charts. Seriously, at first I thought this song would be a big fail, but I am actually catching onto the craze right now as well. Aren’t they just so cute and weird? No? Just me? It is also currently August and they have been rising since their release in June which is pretty good, considering their current competition: f(x), Beast, Brown Eyed Girls, EXO, B.A.P etc. And they are also still considered as rookies…

Seriously, who does not love this song? It is energetic, fun to listen to and also quite different. Who does not plays Simon Says… with this song? Why am I asking so many questions? Why are they so popular after two months after release? What is the meaning of life? I don’t know. Honestly, all the songs nowadays are about love and emotion. This song, however, focuses on the fun side of life. The side where you “don’t want to be stick at home“. The Engrish in this song is over the top. The song is hell of a catchy one. The instrumental is quite different and actually sounds really quirky, giving that different effect to the song. The song is also really cute sounding. “Jumping yeah, jumping yeah, everybody”. Who just sang that in their head??? I just did! To be honest, this is a song that I would put on repeat and not become bored listening to it. Also, was anyone else really surprise with that rap breakdown? It really did fit the song and sounded really good. GREAT SONG OVERALL!!!!

The music video, yeah, is really lame. Not actually low budget and I understand what their budget would’ve been, but this music video was not that great. If it was the dance version only, then I would’ve been satisfied, but sadly, those outside scenes looked really boring and uninteresting. As for the absurdity of their costumes: 10/10. As for the story version of this music video: I thought it was pretty cool. Girl’s power written all over it. I particularly think it has a good message for girls and guys all together.

As for the dance: who is not dancing to it? Who is not copying the cute members who are driving everyone nuts with this particular song. Don’t you want to jump? Or “Pa Pa Pa Pa” all day long?

9.5/10. REALLY GOOD!!! ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF THE YEAR!!!! As for the questions in this review: 1/10. 😦
