Please Tell Me – Girl’s Day

Source: http://www.kpopscene.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Girls-Day-03.jpg

Girl’s Day recently made their comeback with a digital single. It was first released 31st ish of July ( I am not sure, hopefully my maths add up) as a digital single, but was performed on Inkigayo prior to release on the 28th of July. I am not sure about this rumour, but apparently the song was meant to be released ages ago, however instead they kept the song under wraps until now, where they are performing it. It seems like the band is securing their fame with another release as a follow up single, as they had only finished promoting Female President and Expectation, but have gone straight into the release of a new song. This song takes the girls back to their “cute” days, telling all fans and listeners that the band can actively go back and forth with image changes.

The song is quite different from Female President and Expectation. Both were quite sexy songs that showed off their lady charms. ‘Please Tell Me’ on the other hand, takes the girls back to their Twinkle Twinkle or Hug Me Once day which the girls are known for.  The song has that summer feel to it that I find is quite lacking. I like the song, but the hype which the company created for the song and others comparing it to Sistar’s Loving U, was really too much. The song did lack quite a bit in that fresh feel that we want to hear in all summer songs. However, I thought the song is quite cute and sounds pretty good. That addition to the guy at the start is quite random and I found that it was not needed. But at the same time, it did a good job at opening the song. The vocals were pretty cool and the rap fitted the song, amazingly. I liked the chorus as well. Overall, not what I had expected but still a  good song.

There is no music video for this, but there is a stage performances. I thought the dance is quite cute and that singing at the start: is it the actual singer or a dancer just standing in for the guy? I cannot really tell. The band is doing quite well in terms of popularity for this song as it gives fans the chance to listen to a song that is not full on jumpy or sad and emotional.

6.5/10. Not what I had expected (disappointed just a small bit), but still a good song to listen to.

Growl – EXO

Source: http://www.officiallykmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/EXO-Growl.png

EXO recently made their comeback with their followup album with Growl. Rejoining with all 12 members, EXO is continuing their massive takeover of the charts with this very song. Released on the 5th of August, the band has been been topping charts with their latest song. The group has wowed fans with their new song and style of their music video taken in one shot. Yeah, sorry about the lame introduction. Growl is included in the repackaged album of their first album including their last promotional song, Wolf.

This song is much better than Wolf. So much better that I actually liked it. I disliked Wolf and Mama, but this song is quite different altogether. I like the hip hop feel of the song which is completely different to other songs. I also do like the instrumental. It seems poppy and really like how it is upbeat at some parts and then slow at others. The chorus is pretty catchy especially the “Na eureureong eureureong eureureong dae” part which is really catchy. I feel sorry for my friends, because I kept on singing that part the whole day. The transitions to the rap at the end of the song was not as great. And that extra slow part which sounds like a pop ballad at the end sounds pretty awkward which goes to show that this song has a few genres mashed into one. The song’s ending with the two thumps (also through the song) was pretty cool as well. I find this song 1000000 times better than Wolf and it seems like the band made the right song choice.

The music video is really creative. It is taken with what we can assume is with a camera of one shot. Who was extremely impressed with this video because of that? Unlike some videos lately such as f(x)’s Rum Pum Pum Pum, this video was well invested. They did seem have a smaller budget with the clothing. Yeah, I saw that they did not change much from the outfit which they wore in Wolf’s drama version. Also the lighting in this video contributed to the feel of the video. Yes, the non “flashing lights switch dance by Baekhyun” flashing lights. Pretty weird they missed out on that while editing the video and finding the perfect shot. The music video looked pretty good this time around but SM needs to do this for all of their artists. But such a creative video which we cannot see for any other band in the company.

As for the dance, it too incorporated that circle shape to the choreography and the camera work as well for some of the live stages. I particularly find this dance much more appealing than Wolf. The live is pretty good. However am I the only one really unimpressed with the hat trick in both the video and the stage performances? It was pretty lame compared to the rest of the video. The dance was pretty cool and then there was the “amazing” hat trick by the members.

8/10. Impressed by this song. That is my point of view. But was yours? Did you like Wolf or Growl more? Comment below!!!!

Bar Bar Bar – Crayon Pop

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Screen-Shot-2013-06-25-at-2.08.40-PM.png

Crayon Pop recently made their comeback (over 2 months ago) with their latest single taking Korea and the international audience by storm. When they released the single when it first came out, did not perform as well on charts. However now, they are ranking in the top 10, reaching up to third place on some weekly music shows and achieving 1st place on so many other charts. Seriously, at first I thought this song would be a big fail, but I am actually catching onto the craze right now as well. Aren’t they just so cute and weird? No? Just me? It is also currently August and they have been rising since their release in June which is pretty good, considering their current competition: f(x), Beast, Brown Eyed Girls, EXO, B.A.P etc. And they are also still considered as rookies…

Seriously, who does not love this song? It is energetic, fun to listen to and also quite different. Who does not plays Simon Says… with this song? Why am I asking so many questions? Why are they so popular after two months after release? What is the meaning of life? I don’t know. Honestly, all the songs nowadays are about love and emotion. This song, however, focuses on the fun side of life. The side where you “don’t want to be stick at home“. The Engrish in this song is over the top. The song is hell of a catchy one. The instrumental is quite different and actually sounds really quirky, giving that different effect to the song. The song is also really cute sounding. “Jumping yeah, jumping yeah, everybody”. Who just sang that in their head??? I just did! To be honest, this is a song that I would put on repeat and not become bored listening to it. Also, was anyone else really surprise with that rap breakdown? It really did fit the song and sounded really good. GREAT SONG OVERALL!!!!

The music video, yeah, is really lame. Not actually low budget and I understand what their budget would’ve been, but this music video was not that great. If it was the dance version only, then I would’ve been satisfied, but sadly, those outside scenes looked really boring and uninteresting. As for the absurdity of their costumes: 10/10. As for the story version of this music video: I thought it was pretty cool. Girl’s power written all over it. I particularly think it has a good message for girls and guys all together.

As for the dance: who is not dancing to it? Who is not copying the cute members who are driving everyone nuts with this particular song. Don’t you want to jump? Or “Pa Pa Pa Pa” all day long?

9.5/10. REALLY GOOD!!! ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF THE YEAR!!!! As for the questions in this review: 1/10. 😦

G.R.8.U – VIXX

VIXX recently made their comeback with their first repackaged mini album, Jekyll. This “nice boy” image this time around that the boys have gone for continues on from their Hyde days. For those who have forgotten or don’t know, Jekyll and Hyde are an infamous person. Yes, they are both 1 person. One who has a totally evil split personality kind of story, where one is evil (Hyde) and the other is nice (Jekyll). G.R.8.U (or Your Impressive) is a song that has achieved the boys more ground, as they have been ranking higher than ever with their new and original concept.

I am totally digging this song. I know I am not into that aegyo boy stuff, but seriously, this is the Summer 2013 song that I have been waiting for for quite some time now. It has a totally rocking instrumental and the lyrics are totally amazing. Not only that, but their chorus is really catchy and everything about the song is so great. The vocals are exceptionally powerful for this song, but it matches the feel of the song as well. Leo sang his heart out in this song hitting all those high notes at the end. Ravi has a really great rap as well, which I really think is the highlight of this song. Actually, since the band had come out, I have been more interested and keen to know more about the band. Witt he release of this song, I started watching shows that they appeared on and it is really something to point out that Leo is the most quietest In interview but on stage he is the power house. Hahaha….

The music video is definitely original. The music video, when we see it, is in reverse. Which means the group had to basically lip sync their own song in reverse while filming the music video. Like seriously, that requires a lot of talent and patient. Seriously, when I saw the teaser I was like “WTF?”, but when the music video came out, I realized what was happening. Was I the only person to both have thought about of reversing the teaser to hear the song. I love the music video and this band deserves all the awards. How many bands today do you see signing their songs backwards for the sake of their music video? None. I also love the lightness of this video. Compare it to Hyde, which was dark and creepy. This music video is light and fluffy. There is also much more color it this music video, I love the newspaper scene and the big dance scenes for this music video were amazing. To sum it up, I was mind blown with this music video. Really was.

The dance, believe or not, was choreographed by their leader, N. I really like the dance overall and loved how they incorporated a bit of Hyde in it. By far one of the best dances of the year I have to say.

To sum this WHOLE review up, I was really satisfied and enjoyed everything from the song to the dance. Best comeback for 2013? We just have to wait and see. But so far, I think so. I think I need to create a new category for the Best Of The Best 2013. 10/10.

Your Story – Kim Hyun Joong ft. DOK2

Source: http://i1.wp.com/24-7kpop.COM/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/khj-your-story1.png?resize=770%2C472

Kim Hyun Joong recently made his comeback with his pre released single, Unbreakable, and his title song from his third mini album, Your Story. The hip hop sensation, DOK2, also featured in this song and also did feature in his previous single, Break Down. This song is completely different to Unbreakable, this one being a more emotional song and the other a more powerful song. The song reconnects the audience with the RnB feel, a style that Kim Hyun Joong has yet gone for. Now, I have something to say, but is another song from this mini album charting higher than this particular song or am I just misreading stuff? I think I am misreading, because it makes no sense. I checked MNet online charts, and Kim Hyun Joong’s Let’s Party was voted on top of all songs, not Your Story or Unbreakable.

Anyway, I really did not like the song. I enjoyed Lucky Guy, Kiss Kiss, Please, but this song was just so boring for me. I really do prefer Unbreakable, if I had to choose between the two songs, and I did not like Unbreakable that much either. This seems to be a different side of the singer that is not that appealing. Well, the girls are all swooning over him, squealing on top of their lungs when they hear him, but as a guy and not a fangirl (or boy) of Kim Hyun Joong, I found the song lacking in colour and emotion, The song is meant to be emotional and all of that, but it did not appeal to me as I thought it would. The song was quite too slow for me and there was no impact to the song. It is not catchy. I found the “Your Story, Your Story” part really annoying and the chorus felt really dead. Basically the song was black and white for me and the vocals really did not fit the feel of the song. Overall, really disappointed.

Wow, what a steamy music video. Yeah, beside that, the music video consisted of a guy walking down a beach and singing on a random stage on the beach. Nothing great from the video. Another black and white, plain feeling that lacks a lot of detail. I honestly agree with the others. The presence of the girl adds nothing to the video and only keeps perverts watching the music video. They are either appealing to the pervert population of the KPOP world, with the overused “scene” and fangirls, with the overused shirtless Kim Hyun Joong. Oh why do I feel like I am going to die and a bunch of ‘Henecias’ are going to be at my door tomorrow. Must keep my profile low.

There is no dance as far as I am concerned. Well, there are some parts of the dance, but it is not overally that great, He does dance the most when it is not his turn to sing, but really, he spends most of the time at the microphone.

1/10. Sorry. I really tried to be fair, but really was disappointed. Here is my question for you all. Which song did you like better: Unbreakable or Your Story? Or maybe another song off his new mini album? I prefer Let’s Party than these two songs. I have linked both songs down below in the playlist. Enjoy.

V – Lee Jung Hyun

Source: http://www.mtvk.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/130723_leejunghyun.jpg

Lee Jung Hyun, the techno queen, of KPOP had made her first comeback in around 2-3 years. Yeah, beside that I have nothing on her. This is seriously the first song that I have ever heard of by the artist, but hell, she is a good one. All I know now is that she had been around for the very long time, maybe before most of us were born. Actually, she debuted when I was a little kid. Thanks Wikipedia. Yeah, honestly, never heard of her, but am I the only person who is really liking the song and the music video? Hahahaha…

The song really does have its techno roots, and is too, like its own music video really mysterious. Though the song is autotuned a lot, I found okay. On another note, I think we can liken her to Lady Gaga? She has that quirkiness that I find that Lady Gaga has. I find the song ridiculously catchy, especially those parts leading up to the chorus and the chorus itself. It mixes up the song up totally, and adds that extra thing to the song to make it not boring. The Ladidadida” parts are really cool. The song itself talks about whether the female counterpart should dump this guy because he is too clingy. I think, I am not entirely sure myself, but I believe so. But seriously, don’t you just want to stand up and sing along with the song.

The music video on the other hand is the complete opposite. We see a guy who car is broken down, entire a mysterious place in search for help (or a place to stay). Little did he know that he just entered a house of horrors. He soon sees that he is in a house with a ghost, who is being very clingy. He is scared out of his own skin and tries to escape, but the thing is wherever he goes, she goes with him, I don’t know, but this guy seems like he is haunted by his previous encounter with this female. I really love the video because of its dark sides but also his hilarious side. Portrayed really well. I love the horror style of the video, since I am into that kind of stuff. As for the hilarity of the video, it gives that different zest to it.

The dance is also quite addictive. I am not dancing to it, but I always want to see the dance when it is on a music show. The dance for the chorus too is quite quirky and different as well.

8/10. Just for it’s willingness to stand away from the rest of the world and say I am different. LOL and it was a good song and comeback overall.

Kill Bill – Brown Eyed Girls

Source: http://showbiz.omy.sg/sites/default/files/images/201307/20130729/beg_vod_img.jpg

Brown Eyed Girls have made their first comeback to the stage in 2 years with their latest album, Black Box and their latest title track, Kill Bill. Parodying one of the most famous movie series to date, Brown Eyed Girls have made a comeback with a song equally as strong as Abracadabra and Sixth Sense. They announced their comeback through the release of Recipe, another song off their album which was released on the 9th of July earning them an all kill, toppling over their rival, 2NE1. Not only that, but Kill Bill has also proven to be one of most popular songs at the moment, trailing both F(x) and EXO with their songs on the charts.

The song has that western cowboy feel to it that we can all hear throughout the song. To be honest, I felt that this song was kind of weak compared to Sixth Sense and Abracadabra. However, after closely listening to the song, this song turns out to be an equally powerful song. KIll Bill (the song) talks about killing the girls “partner”. They talk about taking revenge on the guy, who has betrayed them of their love. Poor girls. The whole song is really dominated by the instrumental. While that would be a bad thing, I loved the vocals of Gain, JeA and Narsha in the song. They sounded really good and actually matched the song. The rap did not match the song as much compared to the vocals, but was really badass and powerful (Typically what you would expect from Miryo). I also did like the gunshot sounds before each chorus, giving more to that western olden day feels. I also loved how they had this changeover system for the chorus, where each of the three members who vocally sang in the song would each sing a different part of the chorus each time there was a chorus. I honestly was satisfied with the song. Why are they not winning any awards???? My most favourite line from this song when translated would have to be: “Run away from me as far as you can.

As for the music video, I have to confess. I have never watched Kill Bill before. Yeah, apparently it is a really good series, which I need to start watching. This review however, will be my own interpretation of the music video. Obviously, from watching the video, this whole music video is making fun of the movie, not an actual accurate depiction of the song. At the start of the video, in the olden days, we have Narsha, an calligraphy artist, who was busy painting the word “Bill” on the guys back. JeA who used to have perfect eyesight, was under the bed with a jar of a poisonous spider. Then, we have Gain who shoots the poor guy. Narsha on the other hands grabs her hairpin (paintbrush) and throws it at gain, supposedly killing her. We then have Miryo who comes in and kills Narsha with a gun, buts ends up dying because of that evil spider. Throughout this old scene, we learn that the guy they are all trying to kill is Bill and they all have their own motives for killing him, revenge for leaving them. We then skip forward to the future, where all the members survive, but instead starts hunting each other down to kill them. However that fails. It is not until they all “door knock” on Narsha’s house, that they have an extreme battle and die. Seriously, this is one funny ass video, that you must watch. JeA’s death must be the most unfortunate as she was shot in the eye, attempted to poison Gain, but instead ends up poisoning herself and then ends up falling (a remarkably short distance) to her death. I really do like how they did play on the characters. All I know of Kill Bill, there is a Japanese person, a yellow suit person and a really dumb one? I don’t know. But hilarious video (and artful come to the think of it).

As for the dance, I really did love it. It matched the feel of the song and was really cool. I particularly love the final chorus and Miryo rapping parts. Totally rocking.

9.5/10. REALLY GOOD. LOVING IT. Only problem is, I never watched Kill Bill, so my view of the video was distorted because of that.

Rum Pum Pum Pum – F(x)

F(x) had recently made their comeback with their latest album, Pink Tape, on Monday. Their music video for their title song, Rum Pum Pum Pum, was released on the 25th of July. Since then, they have achieved an all-kill and topped many charts. Fans have been longing a comeback from the band ever since their final promotion of Electric Shock released over a year ago. However, they have been ranking lowly on charts: 19th place on MCountdown and failing (I honestly am not sure) to rank on Music Bank and Music Core. Do note that this is going to be one of those crappy reviews because I am not impressed at all. Not at F(x) though, but at SM Entertainment themselves.

The song is okay. At first, I thought the girls have gone for the wrong style and that it sounded weird to me. This feeling was further consolidated when I saw the music video. However, after listening to it, I started to sing along and warm up to it. But that is where my enjoyment of the song stops. It is definitely not the best song by the band. There is some uniqueness to the song that we know comes from the band. Rum Pum Pum Pum sounds really European and I, for some reason instantly thought of the play Cats. I felt the rap was really good, but it was in the wrong place. Actually, in the wrong song to be precise. The vocals were okay, but not the best. On a more positive note, I did like the marching sounds scattered in the song. Overall, I think the song could have been better on many levels.

The music video is worse! You can definitely tell that F(x) is getting the shorthand of the stick in this video. Super Junior, SNSD, EXO, Henry, BoA, TVXQ, SHINee, TRAX always gets these really detailed box sets, which we all grow to hate, but still very detailed. As for this video, you can see the boringness. It is like the director was like ” Oh we have this boring set left and some extra lights. You are getting this, F(x).” There was nothing going on in the video to talk about. I did like the camera spinning around that one panel of glass and the girls would change into someone else. That was fun. But pixels? After SHINee’s Dream Girl seriously? Talk about a lack of funding from the company. We should all start a petition and give it to SMent. Better working conditions! I think I just touched on a sensitive subject. And boy, what were they wearing? It was horrible. Seriously, the stylist seemed to just we out to the nearby dollar store and bought whatever they saw. Nothing in the video was a standout. I did like the hairstyles, though. Does that count?

As for the dance, I thought it was okay. Not really up high like Infinite’s Destiny, Brown Eyed Girl’s Kill Bill, Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar (Review Coming Soon) or Psy’s Gangnam Style. I actually think Electric Shock had a much better dance in this case. Was not much of a fan of the dance.

Sorry, but I am giving them a 3/10. Sorry, but I feel bad for the girls. They are very popular but according to the gospel that SMent goes by, you have to be the top band to get the best treatment. Actually, come to the think of it, SNSD gets pretty boring sets for their music videos as well. Not only that but Super Junior, SHINee, BoA, Henry, EXO, TRAX, BoA and TVXQ all do get really shitty sets.

Unbreakable – Kim Hyun Joong ft. Jay Park

Source: http://www.hallyusmash.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/kim-hyun-joong-unbreakable-badass-11.png
Source: http://www.hallyusmash.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/kim-hyun-joong-unbreakable-badass-11.png

Kim Hyun Joong recently made his comeback after consecutive Japanese promotions and releases, without a song in Korea, leaving fans swooning for him. According to my friends, they have been dying to hear a new song from the artist himself and was overcome with joy when he released this song, featuring the one and only Jay park. Woo! Anyway, the song was pre released ahead of his mini album on the 18th of July. Since then, and after his mini album was released, he has reached the top of so many charts, including Billboard. Wow! That is one big achievement there. Let’s continue shall we?

Okay, I am really torn about the song. I do like it, but it is not as great as his previous singles. Same go for “Your Story” which is his other title track. I expected some kind of hardcore party song, not something fierce and dominate. It is a great song, but I find it not for me. Yeah, crazy right? The song has its RnB roots and the vocals are pretty good. It is powerful and hits you across the face. The only thing I like about the song is the “Unbreakable, Unbreakable” part at the end of each chorus. I do also like Jay park’s part in the song. I don’t know, I did not like Break Down and this song is quite similar to that other song, in terms of style. Yeah, I am not impressed. The vocals of the verse are lacking the proper appeal which I found in Please and Lucky Guy. That “Woahh~” part at the end was really annoying and kind of came out of nowhere for me. I am not big on the whole instrumental of the song as well.

The music video is quite artistic. I do like the addition of the tradition Korean parts to the video, which seems really foreign in my mind. I think the last artist to do that was in B.A.P’s No Mercy, with the traditional fusion dance part. It was dark which really fitted the song’s style and I actually prefer the music video to the song itself. I like the large scale set of the music video and those ninjas were pretty cool. I think this is the first time I am going to say this, but I have this thing with a car turning into something else. That car just turned into a freaking cow. Yeah, I have not searched up the lyrics but a cow? Also, given tops for the addition of the drums, they add something new to the video that is quite different from the Lamborghini and the cow. Jay Park’s addition was pretty cool as well. And Kim Hyun Joong shirtless, yeah, I don’t what to say. Disappointed? Satisfied? Don’t care? But I hate that red filter and the raindrops and those slow motion parts. Sadly the only movie or video that should attempt slow motion is The Matrix, nothing else.

The dance is really so and so. Nothing great about the dance. It matches the dominate feel of the song and pretty much matched the style of the song as well. There was power and a lot of abs on the MCountdown stage on Thursday. What? It is the video I chose to add to the playlist anyway.

3.5/10. Not that great for me. I am sure others will love and like it But this comeback overall was not for me. That also includes Your Story. I think the only song which I liked was “Let’s Party”, mainly because I liked it on the Japanese album and now it was remade to Korean.

Insane – A Jax

iaj

A-Jax recently made their comeback with a new song after a few successful comebacks last year. This time around, they have gone for more of an “insane” look for their fans. This is probably my most favourite song of the group and I think probably one of the best songs of the year. And now I am at a lost about what to say. Writer’s block sucks. Oh they made their comeback on the 11th of July, which is half a month ago. Damn my laziness. Seriously, I am surprised why this song is not ranking as high, because this is some good stuff.

The song is really good. I just want to say I will recommend it regardless place and time. I’ve asked my friends, and many were not that pleased with the song, which is disappointing, since I really like the song.  Those breathing sounds at the start and throughout the song keeps the song in its mode. It is different and really keeps the singers on top of the song, if you know what I mean. I really find the chorus of the song really addictive and the raps are top notch. The song itself talks about how a guy is slowly going “insane” over this girl, which kind of make senses in a way. I also really like the really husky “Babe Babe” part at the end. Pretty much approve of this song. If you did not get that, well….

This video is “insane”. Like there is a plot line to the whole video, but I guess you have to rely on what you believe in and your imagination. So what my interpretation of this video is may be a little different of what what the video is actually is. So this guy is taken to some mental facility. He, however is hypnotized by the old doctor and instead believes he is being treated by two sexy, young nurses. However, his mind starts going crazy and wonky. So therefore the other guys are all in his head doing weird stuff which does occur for the “insane guy”. However even during this time, he is trying to “dream” his way out of the room. Towards the end, he dreams of the right key after many attempts to unlock the door. That is my interpretation and it seems like the video something on that is completely different to the thing that occurs later or just before the certain scene. It lives up to the song title’s name and looks pretty good.

As for the dance, wow. I like it really well. The only thing I have to say though. This song needs the special fire effect or those fireworks thingy. Without, the whole stage looks boring. However the guys themselves have amazing stage presence.

9/10. Excellent comeback overall. I am totally satisfied by everything. Are you?

Hurricane – B.A.P

Source: http://upload.enewsworld.net/News/Contents/20130717/76642294.jpg

B.A.P recently released their second title song, Hurricane. Their first song, Coffee Shop, released earlier this month showed fans that there is more to that very serious image the boys have given themselves. Hurricane is exactly the same thing, where the band released a song with a brand new style. Also, B.A.P is also gearing up for a comeback next week (I think) with the release of all of the members teasers out. BadMan is the title of the new song, which fans have been waiting forever to see the band perform once again on the stage. It is said that the new album itself will contain songs of different genres in which we have not seen the boys done yet, as we can already see from the other pre-releases, the song is living up to its descriptions.

Gonna keep this review short for the day: LOOF. THE LOOF. THE LOOF IS ON FIYAH. Yeah, beside the Engrish in this song, I actually like the song. It is like a combination of hip hop and dubstep. I don’t like my dubstep that much unless it is pretty good dubstep. This song however is really good. Beside some minor adjustments to the song, the song can be much better than what we already can hear. To be honest, I am torn about whether keeping Himchan’s Engrish lines or not. They are pretty bad, but exceptionally funny at the same time. Woo! The whistles in this video are so annoying. Also, this will be the first time I be complaining about high notes in the song. Daehyun. sometimes you just need to go without screaming every five seconds in the song. Beside I was quite pleased with the song. Everyone (beside the excessive high notes) pretty good. the raps were really good as well. They fitted the tone and the speed of the song.

The music video is pretty good. Too many lights though. Like, they got distracting, but hey, it is Las Vegas. I am disappointed in the amount of “Loofs” that are not on fire, which is quite concerning. Not sure about the car with the stripper pole in the middle. Fanfics writers? I don’t know. Don’t ask. The dance scenes were pretty good, especially Zelo and Jongup, but hey they are pro dancers. Beside that, there is nothing else to say about the music video. I have to admit. Pretty boring on a whole, but still pretty good.

7.5/10. Most of it is just.. Wait.. Your loof is on fire.

Shadow – Beast

Source: http://www.hellokpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/130717_BEAST_ShadowMVTeaser.jpg

Beast recently made one of the hottest comebacks on July 19, with their creepiest song yet: Shadow. If you think Fiction, Breathe or Shock was creepy or scary, it must be noted that is just childsplay. Shadow has proven to be a hit amongst fans earning an all kill as soon as it was release and topping all charts. However, the song seems to not be doing well on the weekly show charts. I don’t know since they have only promoted for their first week, so I am expecting a major all kill on the all 4 different charts this week. It must be noted that the companies basically threw a whole bunch of bands onto the charts (something like the Hunger Games) and the best will win. Other artists that are going head to head are Infinite, Ailee, Brown Eyed Girls, F(x), EXO and many more. But they are not as important as Beast for this review, so let’s continue.

WOW!!! I totally love this song. It is catchy, dark and really cool sounding. Something of my liking. This song is something along the lines of their Fiction days, and I hated Fiction. This however is by far their best song yet. I really like the different feel of the song. Last year, they made a comeback with a dance themed song. The year before that they made a comeback with a ballad like song. This year, creepy. I love the vocals of this song and JunHyung’s rap is totally amazing. Doojoon gets a majority of the chorus with Yoseob which is much different than usual. I also love how everyone else sings once, but suddenly starts singing to different parts of the chorus at the end. Not sure if they are putting emphasis of how much the others suck or what, but seriously this whole idea is pretty cool. Not exactly a fan of the “Shadow, Shadow” part at the start though. Sounds conflicting with the song.

As for the music video. I really hate that filter that put over the whole video to give it that olden feel to the video. I really hate static and all of that mojo, so this music video was a letdown when I first saw it. That guy with all the tattoos on his back is really scary.  I really like how this video is full of “shadows”. It really makes sense. However the close ups with the members and that glass frost wall is really too much. There was too many flashing lights in this video. From what I see from the video, this girl, which the guys love, have walked onto the “dark side” (aka. leaving the guy). Basically, it is pretty scary and lives up to the whole concept. And that set is pretty amazing. I know it is just green screen and some realy parts, but still it is pretty amazing. I also liked one part of the video which I will pose to you guys as a question: What does B.A.P’s No Mercy, VIXX’s Hyde and Beast’s Shadow all have in common?

As for the dance, it matched the speed and the instrumental really well. Splitting the bands into their solo parts at the start was pretty cool, and gave each member some time to shine. Pun intended.

8.5/10. Pretty cool. Woo! Much better than Beautiful Night from last year.

Pit-A-Pat – BESTie

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/BESTie-pitapat-mv.png

A rookie group, BESTie, recently made their debut with their first single Pit-A-Pat. The group consists of three former members of EXID (who seemed to disappear off the face of earth) and a random new female trainee. They made their debut in July 2013. Apparently not many people believe this group has potential to be a good group. Yet am I the only person who was fully satisfied with this comeback? Yeah, sure, this is not the best song that I would love to listen to over and over again, but it was a really fun song to listen to. Also, the song title is meant to be the sound of the heart, which technically means thump thump when translated out to English. Yeah, I never get this song title and Sunny Hill’s OST song of the same name. They just completely change the title. I am normal, and hence my heart goes thump thump not pit-a-pat like rain drops.

Okay, this is not the best song to make a debut with. I have to agree there, but seriously, this is really fun to listen to and I thought this song ties in with the Summer feeling quite nicely. I am absolutely loving the start of the song, with the “Daegeun Daegeun” part. I really do like the instrumental with the lyrics. I am not actually a fan of the instrumental only, but the lyrics cover the ugly bits up. The chorus is pretty good, I really find the “K.I.S.S” really catchy and this group’s rapper is a total bomb at her job. I actually find the bridge of the song, pretty okay. It sounds good and really does not conflict with the song that much. The only complaints of this song is that the song is just too lively for me. You really cannot actually make this song serious, but it is just to happy and lively for me.

How weird is this video? 4 girls trying to hit on a guy. That makes total sense. Also, that guy is one dopey guy. All I know is he is a comedian in Korea and his name just slipped my mind. Yay. But beside that, the music video is really colourful. I am not a fan of that big stopwatch set which they dance around and all of that. Not that great at all. And who on earth uses black balloons at parties? I prefer coloured balloons. Maybe because I am an Australian and black balloons were onced use to try combat emissions and pollution, but black balloons? Also, Jo Kwon’s appearance really does not do much at all. All he does is act really homosexual (Like is he attached to that pole or what?) and really act “kkap” towards the girls.

More ass in the air? I am surprised many people hate this band because of their dance. Hmmm… Is waving your ass in the air a bit too much? Kara’s Mister must be on your hate list as well? Seriously, stop being hypocritical. This dance is awesome. Yes, it does look like the girls are selling themselves, but seriously, I have not seen a dance at all that is the same as this.  It matches the song’s beat and instrumental and the lively feeling of the song.

6/10. Pretty good. Could’ve been better though, but still pretty good overall.

Incredible – Xiah Junsu (JYJ)

Source: http://cdn.popdust.com//wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Junsu-Incredible-Feature.jpg

Xiah Junsu of the band JYJ made his long awaited comeback since Tarantallegra in 2011 with one of the best summer songs of the season to date. No Summer song had been my favourites yet, but this song is definitely one of the songs that I would reccomend for a playlist. For those who don’t know, JYJ was a band formed after 3 members of the then-DBSK filed a court injunction against SMent. Since then, the whole thing got really ugly, to the extent where more court injunctions were brought between the band and their former agency. Recently, one court injunction told SMent to allow JYJ to participate on weekly music shows, which fans have been dying to see since the start of 2010. The reason why I brought this up? I want Junsu to promote this song. I want him basically “Get His Swag On“. NOTE: I don’t gangster. I just quoted his song.

Wow, I was really impressed with this song. I was not much of a fan of 11 O’Clock (despite loving ballads) and Tallentellgra. This song, however, has that summery feel that Sistar’s Loving U had last year. It is definitely a song that one would listen to to make themselves be happy and feel like they are in Summer. Now, I am in Winter and while I am freezing my buttocks off over in the Southern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere. So when I listen to this song, I feel warm and that I am in Summer. I would not be surprised if I found this song at a party of some kind. Definitely a party number. I found myself singing the chorus over and over again. “Something so Incredible. Something so magical.” The only few things I hate about the song, the start seems really unprofessional and does not sound that great for a party/summer song. And was I the only one who was taken surprised by the featuring of P Diddy’s son, Qunicy. It kind of came out of nowhere for me. His rap sounds something that was slapped into the song at the last minute. “Alpha-robotic girl. Baby, you’re futuristic. Shine in your vega world” does not sound like this girl is that Incredible, but she sounds more like a robot!

As for the music video, we need someone to voice over that start of the video. “Here we have young adult humans in their natural habitat. While old people a busy with work and bingo, this age group of the species is busy partying. Take notice of the shirtless guy with abs that girls can do washing on, he is flirting with a girl, a common thing in which young adults do at parties. Come back next week, when we view these creatures in the process of a hangover.” No, just me? The music video is okay. The dancing scenes were okay and the scene where Junsu is wearing the white shirt and sitting on the bed is okay. Not sure about the creepy girl who comes and go behind the curtain. I think security needs to check up on her. She might be a fan who is here to slap Junsu, so he can “remember” her. Get it? No? Also, the “bed scene” in the music video. What is wrong with the director of the video? Putting him in a golden suit and telling to make out with the girl, with horrible light designs. Urghh… Light designs and patterns make me cringe. Sorry.

The dance is okay. Nothing that great as well. I am technically not impressed with the tight tights and the shorts and the full colour gear which Junsu is in. I really cannot comment on the dance without a proper dance version, but from what I see, nothing that major.

8/10. Pretty good overall,  with a few tune ups, the whole thing would be much better.

Waiting For You – Mr.Mr

Source: http://seoulbeats.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/mr.mr5_.png

Being one of the rookie groups from 2012 to make their debut, they recently made their comeback, with their latest single Waiting For You on the 4th of July. Fireworks? No? Really could not find as much information about this band than other bands which I listen to. All I can remember was that the song was released as a mini album.

The song is quite average. I found the song pretty okay, nothing special about it as I had expected it to be. Highway, their previous song released at the start of the year grew a lot on me. This song sounded great the first time I heard it, but as I progressed on listening to the song, I lost a lot of interest quite fast. There is no wow factor which I thought the song would have. From what I remember, the song is about how a guy thinks his lover ditched him. More on this in the music video review part of this post. A lot more. So overall, I was quite disappointed with a song which I thought was going to be much better. The teaser sounded so cool and amazing.

Wow. How dramatic was this guy? Just because your fiance does not pick up the phone when you call her and she is alone does not mean she ran away from you. Wait, actually it may mean that. However the video is quite dramatic with the whole idea of the song. I did say that the song is about a guy who thinks that his lover has left him. However in this video we see the whole idea set as a wedding. We also see that the fiance’s car broke down. Yet the guy assumes the worst case scenario that she left. Not that she was held up in traffic or that she was involved in a car accident, but that she has left him. Actually, come to the think of it, I see how you thought she had left you. YOU ARE PATHETIC!!!!! Bit harsh hey? However, it actually really makes sense with the girl running to somewhere with the guy searching which does give off that feeling that girl may have left in. We also see that the couple had an intense argument which left the guy every pissed off and the girl in tears which may have contributed to the whole thing, which confuses me even more. It however turns out that the girl was only trying her best to get there for the celebration on time, but the car had broken down, and she pathetically left her phone at home. She then returns to her lover’s eyes by sleeping on the table. GET A ROOM!! Not in that sense….

The dance is pretty okay. Nothing major and nothing that great. Just I wished to point out that in the music video, belly buttons everywhere. Sorry, I had to slip that joke in somewhere. But no, there were seriously a whole heap of belly buttons.

I apologize if I stuffed any areas up for this review. I literally wrote this in 10 minutes and on a phone. The point is: I HATE TYPING ON A PHONE!!! I think i am in the wrong decade of century, with all this texting stuff. Urghh…. But on that note: 5/10. They are a great band, but the song did not catch me, like what I expected it to.

Destiny – Infinite

Infinite recently made one of the biggest comebacks of the month since March, with Destiny. Man In Love was released back in March, giving the guys an extra boost in popularity, earning them major awards in their promotion period. One of which was winning a whole week on all 4 music award programs at the time (MBC Show Champion, Mnet MCountDown, KBS Music Bank and SBS Inkigayo). They also won the first award, in 2005, to be presented at MBC Music Core. Very big achievements. Let’s all hope this song will do well as well. Why I am saying that: Brown Eyed Girls, Kim Hyun Joong, Beast, 2NE1, F(x) will all be making (or have made) their respective comebacks in the past week or in the upcoming week.

Destiny is one of the best Infinite songs that I have ever heard of. Though some would agree, this song was much better than Man In Love and is also a return to that Infinite style that we all have been dying to hear from the band. Many say it does not have the Infinite style which we hear of when we hear songs like Paradise, Be Mine, The Chaser etc, however I think it does. Just me? Anyway, this song is really addictive. A song that background instrumental does not get in the way of the vocals in this song. It too has that classical feel that Infinite tend to go for when releasing songs. That little instrumental of the electro vibrating sound is really cool. I find the song has an even spread of the artist. Woohyun and Sunggyu are not dominating the vocals part the song, and it seems like the other members (especially L) has more lines. The song starts upbeat and really high but for the first time (I think) I heard a song slow down at the chorus. You think I would complain, but I really like it in this song. Dongwoo and Hoya’s rap were extra strong from what I hear. The song itself is much more stable than their other songs and am I the only one who is addicted to Woohyun’s “No Way” at the end? Cause damn, that was some good stuff.

The music video (version B) is really confusing. Hence, will I return to reviewing the music video when version A comes out? Maybe, since I gather from Version B music video is that the Infinite boys start having weird super powers or some kind of ability because we don’t see them using them, when they a) step outside or b) when they breathe. It seems like the whole thing is a play off of Hulk, like when they get angry and they go crazy about stuff. The music video that was released definitely is lacking in some parts. I personally cannot make a review with just an empty review of the music video. Also, some of their powers are lame. “I can turn my imaginary twin into dust” and “I can disappear into a pile of dust” is not that impressive. Oh, also, “I can drive” is not really a super power, Dongwoo. If it was, declare me a superhero. The music video is filmed in a proper American studio which lives up to the hype about it, because damn, that is some professional stuff that they are doing.

The dance has “some attitude in it”. Like woah. The dance is not as impressive as I had expected it to be, but that hands to the side and head bobbing dance looks really unfitting for the song. Overall, not great as a dance because there is nothing to comment about. Not great or that bad that would do terribly in the world.

So I guess I have to wait for the next music video. Let’s hope they are not like SMent, who released the music video after the promotions. So far though 7.5/10.
