Insane – A Jax

iaj

A-Jax recently made their comeback with a new song after a few successful comebacks last year. This time around, they have gone for more of an “insane” look for their fans. This is probably my most favourite song of the group and I think probably one of the best songs of the year. And now I am at a lost about what to say. Writer’s block sucks. Oh they made their comeback on the 11th of July, which is half a month ago. Damn my laziness. Seriously, I am surprised why this song is not ranking as high, because this is some good stuff.

The song is really good. I just want to say I will recommend it regardless place and time. I’ve asked my friends, and many were not that pleased with the song, which is disappointing, since I really like the song.  Those breathing sounds at the start and throughout the song keeps the song in its mode. It is different and really keeps the singers on top of the song, if you know what I mean. I really find the chorus of the song really addictive and the raps are top notch. The song itself talks about how a guy is slowly going “insane” over this girl, which kind of make senses in a way. I also really like the really husky “Babe Babe” part at the end. Pretty much approve of this song. If you did not get that, well….

This video is “insane”. Like there is a plot line to the whole video, but I guess you have to rely on what you believe in and your imagination. So what my interpretation of this video is may be a little different of what what the video is actually is. So this guy is taken to some mental facility. He, however is hypnotized by the old doctor and instead believes he is being treated by two sexy, young nurses. However, his mind starts going crazy and wonky. So therefore the other guys are all in his head doing weird stuff which does occur for the “insane guy”. However even during this time, he is trying to “dream” his way out of the room. Towards the end, he dreams of the right key after many attempts to unlock the door. That is my interpretation and it seems like the video something on that is completely different to the thing that occurs later or just before the certain scene. It lives up to the song title’s name and looks pretty good.

As for the dance, wow. I like it really well. The only thing I have to say though. This song needs the special fire effect or those fireworks thingy. Without, the whole stage looks boring. However the guys themselves have amazing stage presence.

9/10. Excellent comeback overall. I am totally satisfied by everything. Are you?

Hurricane – B.A.P

Source: http://upload.enewsworld.net/News/Contents/20130717/76642294.jpg

B.A.P recently released their second title song, Hurricane. Their first song, Coffee Shop, released earlier this month showed fans that there is more to that very serious image the boys have given themselves. Hurricane is exactly the same thing, where the band released a song with a brand new style. Also, B.A.P is also gearing up for a comeback next week (I think) with the release of all of the members teasers out. BadMan is the title of the new song, which fans have been waiting forever to see the band perform once again on the stage. It is said that the new album itself will contain songs of different genres in which we have not seen the boys done yet, as we can already see from the other pre-releases, the song is living up to its descriptions.

Gonna keep this review short for the day: LOOF. THE LOOF. THE LOOF IS ON FIYAH. Yeah, beside the Engrish in this song, I actually like the song. It is like a combination of hip hop and dubstep. I don’t like my dubstep that much unless it is pretty good dubstep. This song however is really good. Beside some minor adjustments to the song, the song can be much better than what we already can hear. To be honest, I am torn about whether keeping Himchan’s Engrish lines or not. They are pretty bad, but exceptionally funny at the same time. Woo! The whistles in this video are so annoying. Also, this will be the first time I be complaining about high notes in the song. Daehyun. sometimes you just need to go without screaming every five seconds in the song. Beside I was quite pleased with the song. Everyone (beside the excessive high notes) pretty good. the raps were really good as well. They fitted the tone and the speed of the song.

The music video is pretty good. Too many lights though. Like, they got distracting, but hey, it is Las Vegas. I am disappointed in the amount of “Loofs” that are not on fire, which is quite concerning. Not sure about the car with the stripper pole in the middle. Fanfics writers? I don’t know. Don’t ask. The dance scenes were pretty good, especially Zelo and Jongup, but hey they are pro dancers. Beside that, there is nothing else to say about the music video. I have to admit. Pretty boring on a whole, but still pretty good.

7.5/10. Most of it is just.. Wait.. Your loof is on fire.

Shadow – Beast

Source: http://www.hellokpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/130717_BEAST_ShadowMVTeaser.jpg

Beast recently made one of the hottest comebacks on July 19, with their creepiest song yet: Shadow. If you think Fiction, Breathe or Shock was creepy or scary, it must be noted that is just childsplay. Shadow has proven to be a hit amongst fans earning an all kill as soon as it was release and topping all charts. However, the song seems to not be doing well on the weekly show charts. I don’t know since they have only promoted for their first week, so I am expecting a major all kill on the all 4 different charts this week. It must be noted that the companies basically threw a whole bunch of bands onto the charts (something like the Hunger Games) and the best will win. Other artists that are going head to head are Infinite, Ailee, Brown Eyed Girls, F(x), EXO and many more. But they are not as important as Beast for this review, so let’s continue.

WOW!!! I totally love this song. It is catchy, dark and really cool sounding. Something of my liking. This song is something along the lines of their Fiction days, and I hated Fiction. This however is by far their best song yet. I really like the different feel of the song. Last year, they made a comeback with a dance themed song. The year before that they made a comeback with a ballad like song. This year, creepy. I love the vocals of this song and JunHyung’s rap is totally amazing. Doojoon gets a majority of the chorus with Yoseob which is much different than usual. I also love how everyone else sings once, but suddenly starts singing to different parts of the chorus at the end. Not sure if they are putting emphasis of how much the others suck or what, but seriously this whole idea is pretty cool. Not exactly a fan of the “Shadow, Shadow” part at the start though. Sounds conflicting with the song.

As for the music video. I really hate that filter that put over the whole video to give it that olden feel to the video. I really hate static and all of that mojo, so this music video was a letdown when I first saw it. That guy with all the tattoos on his back is really scary.  I really like how this video is full of “shadows”. It really makes sense. However the close ups with the members and that glass frost wall is really too much. There was too many flashing lights in this video. From what I see from the video, this girl, which the guys love, have walked onto the “dark side” (aka. leaving the guy). Basically, it is pretty scary and lives up to the whole concept. And that set is pretty amazing. I know it is just green screen and some realy parts, but still it is pretty amazing. I also liked one part of the video which I will pose to you guys as a question: What does B.A.P’s No Mercy, VIXX’s Hyde and Beast’s Shadow all have in common?

As for the dance, it matched the speed and the instrumental really well. Splitting the bands into their solo parts at the start was pretty cool, and gave each member some time to shine. Pun intended.

8.5/10. Pretty cool. Woo! Much better than Beautiful Night from last year.

Pit-A-Pat – BESTie

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/BESTie-pitapat-mv.png

A rookie group, BESTie, recently made their debut with their first single Pit-A-Pat. The group consists of three former members of EXID (who seemed to disappear off the face of earth) and a random new female trainee. They made their debut in July 2013. Apparently not many people believe this group has potential to be a good group. Yet am I the only person who was fully satisfied with this comeback? Yeah, sure, this is not the best song that I would love to listen to over and over again, but it was a really fun song to listen to. Also, the song title is meant to be the sound of the heart, which technically means thump thump when translated out to English. Yeah, I never get this song title and Sunny Hill’s OST song of the same name. They just completely change the title. I am normal, and hence my heart goes thump thump not pit-a-pat like rain drops.

Okay, this is not the best song to make a debut with. I have to agree there, but seriously, this is really fun to listen to and I thought this song ties in with the Summer feeling quite nicely. I am absolutely loving the start of the song, with the “Daegeun Daegeun” part. I really do like the instrumental with the lyrics. I am not actually a fan of the instrumental only, but the lyrics cover the ugly bits up. The chorus is pretty good, I really find the “K.I.S.S” really catchy and this group’s rapper is a total bomb at her job. I actually find the bridge of the song, pretty okay. It sounds good and really does not conflict with the song that much. The only complaints of this song is that the song is just too lively for me. You really cannot actually make this song serious, but it is just to happy and lively for me.

How weird is this video? 4 girls trying to hit on a guy. That makes total sense. Also, that guy is one dopey guy. All I know is he is a comedian in Korea and his name just slipped my mind. Yay. But beside that, the music video is really colourful. I am not a fan of that big stopwatch set which they dance around and all of that. Not that great at all. And who on earth uses black balloons at parties? I prefer coloured balloons. Maybe because I am an Australian and black balloons were onced use to try combat emissions and pollution, but black balloons? Also, Jo Kwon’s appearance really does not do much at all. All he does is act really homosexual (Like is he attached to that pole or what?) and really act “kkap” towards the girls.

More ass in the air? I am surprised many people hate this band because of their dance. Hmmm… Is waving your ass in the air a bit too much? Kara’s Mister must be on your hate list as well? Seriously, stop being hypocritical. This dance is awesome. Yes, it does look like the girls are selling themselves, but seriously, I have not seen a dance at all that is the same as this.  It matches the song’s beat and instrumental and the lively feeling of the song.

6/10. Pretty good. Could’ve been better though, but still pretty good overall.

Incredible – Xiah Junsu (JYJ)

Source: http://cdn.popdust.com//wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Junsu-Incredible-Feature.jpg

Xiah Junsu of the band JYJ made his long awaited comeback since Tarantallegra in 2011 with one of the best summer songs of the season to date. No Summer song had been my favourites yet, but this song is definitely one of the songs that I would reccomend for a playlist. For those who don’t know, JYJ was a band formed after 3 members of the then-DBSK filed a court injunction against SMent. Since then, the whole thing got really ugly, to the extent where more court injunctions were brought between the band and their former agency. Recently, one court injunction told SMent to allow JYJ to participate on weekly music shows, which fans have been dying to see since the start of 2010. The reason why I brought this up? I want Junsu to promote this song. I want him basically “Get His Swag On“. NOTE: I don’t gangster. I just quoted his song.

Wow, I was really impressed with this song. I was not much of a fan of 11 O’Clock (despite loving ballads) and Tallentellgra. This song, however, has that summery feel that Sistar’s Loving U had last year. It is definitely a song that one would listen to to make themselves be happy and feel like they are in Summer. Now, I am in Winter and while I am freezing my buttocks off over in the Southern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere. So when I listen to this song, I feel warm and that I am in Summer. I would not be surprised if I found this song at a party of some kind. Definitely a party number. I found myself singing the chorus over and over again. “Something so Incredible. Something so magical.” The only few things I hate about the song, the start seems really unprofessional and does not sound that great for a party/summer song. And was I the only one who was taken surprised by the featuring of P Diddy’s son, Qunicy. It kind of came out of nowhere for me. His rap sounds something that was slapped into the song at the last minute. “Alpha-robotic girl. Baby, you’re futuristic. Shine in your vega world” does not sound like this girl is that Incredible, but she sounds more like a robot!

As for the music video, we need someone to voice over that start of the video. “Here we have young adult humans in their natural habitat. While old people a busy with work and bingo, this age group of the species is busy partying. Take notice of the shirtless guy with abs that girls can do washing on, he is flirting with a girl, a common thing in which young adults do at parties. Come back next week, when we view these creatures in the process of a hangover.” No, just me? The music video is okay. The dancing scenes were okay and the scene where Junsu is wearing the white shirt and sitting on the bed is okay. Not sure about the creepy girl who comes and go behind the curtain. I think security needs to check up on her. She might be a fan who is here to slap Junsu, so he can “remember” her. Get it? No? Also, the “bed scene” in the music video. What is wrong with the director of the video? Putting him in a golden suit and telling to make out with the girl, with horrible light designs. Urghh… Light designs and patterns make me cringe. Sorry.

The dance is okay. Nothing that great as well. I am technically not impressed with the tight tights and the shorts and the full colour gear which Junsu is in. I really cannot comment on the dance without a proper dance version, but from what I see, nothing that major.

8/10. Pretty good overall,  with a few tune ups, the whole thing would be much better.

Waiting For You – Mr.Mr

Source: http://seoulbeats.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/mr.mr5_.png

Being one of the rookie groups from 2012 to make their debut, they recently made their comeback, with their latest single Waiting For You on the 4th of July. Fireworks? No? Really could not find as much information about this band than other bands which I listen to. All I can remember was that the song was released as a mini album.

The song is quite average. I found the song pretty okay, nothing special about it as I had expected it to be. Highway, their previous song released at the start of the year grew a lot on me. This song sounded great the first time I heard it, but as I progressed on listening to the song, I lost a lot of interest quite fast. There is no wow factor which I thought the song would have. From what I remember, the song is about how a guy thinks his lover ditched him. More on this in the music video review part of this post. A lot more. So overall, I was quite disappointed with a song which I thought was going to be much better. The teaser sounded so cool and amazing.

Wow. How dramatic was this guy? Just because your fiance does not pick up the phone when you call her and she is alone does not mean she ran away from you. Wait, actually it may mean that. However the video is quite dramatic with the whole idea of the song. I did say that the song is about a guy who thinks that his lover has left him. However in this video we see the whole idea set as a wedding. We also see that the fiance’s car broke down. Yet the guy assumes the worst case scenario that she left. Not that she was held up in traffic or that she was involved in a car accident, but that she has left him. Actually, come to the think of it, I see how you thought she had left you. YOU ARE PATHETIC!!!!! Bit harsh hey? However, it actually really makes sense with the girl running to somewhere with the guy searching which does give off that feeling that girl may have left in. We also see that the couple had an intense argument which left the guy every pissed off and the girl in tears which may have contributed to the whole thing, which confuses me even more. It however turns out that the girl was only trying her best to get there for the celebration on time, but the car had broken down, and she pathetically left her phone at home. She then returns to her lover’s eyes by sleeping on the table. GET A ROOM!! Not in that sense….

The dance is pretty okay. Nothing major and nothing that great. Just I wished to point out that in the music video, belly buttons everywhere. Sorry, I had to slip that joke in somewhere. But no, there were seriously a whole heap of belly buttons.

I apologize if I stuffed any areas up for this review. I literally wrote this in 10 minutes and on a phone. The point is: I HATE TYPING ON A PHONE!!! I think i am in the wrong decade of century, with all this texting stuff. Urghh…. But on that note: 5/10. They are a great band, but the song did not catch me, like what I expected it to.

Destiny – Infinite

Infinite recently made one of the biggest comebacks of the month since March, with Destiny. Man In Love was released back in March, giving the guys an extra boost in popularity, earning them major awards in their promotion period. One of which was winning a whole week on all 4 music award programs at the time (MBC Show Champion, Mnet MCountDown, KBS Music Bank and SBS Inkigayo). They also won the first award, in 2005, to be presented at MBC Music Core. Very big achievements. Let’s all hope this song will do well as well. Why I am saying that: Brown Eyed Girls, Kim Hyun Joong, Beast, 2NE1, F(x) will all be making (or have made) their respective comebacks in the past week or in the upcoming week.

Destiny is one of the best Infinite songs that I have ever heard of. Though some would agree, this song was much better than Man In Love and is also a return to that Infinite style that we all have been dying to hear from the band. Many say it does not have the Infinite style which we hear of when we hear songs like Paradise, Be Mine, The Chaser etc, however I think it does. Just me? Anyway, this song is really addictive. A song that background instrumental does not get in the way of the vocals in this song. It too has that classical feel that Infinite tend to go for when releasing songs. That little instrumental of the electro vibrating sound is really cool. I find the song has an even spread of the artist. Woohyun and Sunggyu are not dominating the vocals part the song, and it seems like the other members (especially L) has more lines. The song starts upbeat and really high but for the first time (I think) I heard a song slow down at the chorus. You think I would complain, but I really like it in this song. Dongwoo and Hoya’s rap were extra strong from what I hear. The song itself is much more stable than their other songs and am I the only one who is addicted to Woohyun’s “No Way” at the end? Cause damn, that was some good stuff.

The music video (version B) is really confusing. Hence, will I return to reviewing the music video when version A comes out? Maybe, since I gather from Version B music video is that the Infinite boys start having weird super powers or some kind of ability because we don’t see them using them, when they a) step outside or b) when they breathe. It seems like the whole thing is a play off of Hulk, like when they get angry and they go crazy about stuff. The music video that was released definitely is lacking in some parts. I personally cannot make a review with just an empty review of the music video. Also, some of their powers are lame. “I can turn my imaginary twin into dust” and “I can disappear into a pile of dust” is not that impressive. Oh, also, “I can drive” is not really a super power, Dongwoo. If it was, declare me a superhero. The music video is filmed in a proper American studio which lives up to the hype about it, because damn, that is some professional stuff that they are doing.

The dance has “some attitude in it”. Like woah. The dance is not as impressive as I had expected it to be, but that hands to the side and head bobbing dance looks really unfitting for the song. Overall, not great as a dance because there is nothing to comment about. Not great or that bad that would do terribly in the world.

So I guess I have to wait for the next music video. Let’s hope they are not like SMent, who released the music video after the promotions. So far though 7.5/10.

U & I – Ailee

Source: http://www.mtvk.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ailee_uandi_mv.png

Ailee has recently made her comeback with a brand new song that has achieved all kills and what not on the music charts, with U & I. Being one of the most anticipated comebacks of the month and the year, it seems like she did her job right. She blew all her fans away with her power vocals and her new dancing diva image, which this song has created for herself. Despite this song being Ailee’s injury prone dance, it has to be one of my most favourite Ailee songs since her debut. (Heaven takes the top spot) and I hope that she gets over her injury and it heals fast. We need MORE body rolls.

The song really brings out her vocals. Okay, I am seriously feeling like I have written that in two of her past reviews already and I think that may increase. The song, has that sassy feel to it, which makes it ten times better than any other song out there at the moment. Well, at the time it was released. It has that grand Hollywood feel we would expect back in the 50’s. The song is also really catchy. The “Wait A Minute” parts and the “U & I” parts were amazing and literally had me singing the song 494 times later. The song itself talks about a couple which is now dysfunctional, so the girl decides to step up and say goodbye, instead of holding on. The only thing I feel seems awkward about the song is the bridge of the song. It kind of ruins the song. It still fits the song, but the sounding of it really does not match the quality which this song is brought up in. Her high notes at the end were superb and she deserves one of the top spots for female vocalists. Sass, Hollywood, Power all check.

Wow, the music video too does reflect the Hollywood feel of the song. I think we all may have stumbled upon Las Vegas and New York’s cousin. This is technically where light bulbs would go to die, in the plane tickets cost a little too much. It seems the like the music video is set in a casino or something, which would describe the make up rooms and the poker machines. That “diamond” telephone must cost a fortune 9or taken forever to make). I really think Ailee does rock the red hair really well, not like someone where I live. The only thing I have a problem with in this music video is the “live” band which plays the bongos. Who you tryin’ to fool? We can all tell that they cannot play and if they are, they must suck. Totally. And did they hire two people to just stand there and clap? Wow, extreme much? Overall, this music video has that “golden” feel to it. Get it? Hahahahaha…

The dance is also really catchy. It is also possible to get ankle injuries for doing body rolls. Just ask Ailee. I love the body rolls and Allie has a really cool body to do it with. I also love the “U&I” dance where she points and her heads moves from side to side. It is damn catchy and really cool looking.

8.5/10. Quite high. Not as great as her previous songs as this comeback does seem awkward in parts, but neverless, one of the biggest comebacks of the month.

Falling In Love – 2NE1

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/2ne1-falling.png

2NE1 has finally made their long 1 year return with a brand new style and song, Falling In Love. Shedding their dominant and 2NE1 style we all know the band for, they have changed to a more feminine and more loving style. However, I beg to differ. I find the song still has that 2NE1 feel to it, despite it being “different”. I was, too shocked, with their change though. It was quite sudden. I swear, they will lose a fan, if they do the cute style. Just a warning. They also just today, “Very 2NE1” for their August single. Now that plans have been confirmed, you will be expecting a review.

As for the song, let’s begin at the begin. That “Yap Yap Yap” note at the start was not needed at all. Basically, I was appalled with the start of the song. After that, I basically enjoyed the song. I was not disappointed, like how everyone else is. “Touch Me Over Here, Touch me Over There” did seem a bit dirty at the start, which really did seem weird. The start was amazing and the instrumental was pretty cool. Reggae and different. CL’s rap was much better than her solo debut, Baddest Girls, which I was really happy about. Park Bom and Minzy’s vocals were pretty cool as well. As for Dara, too much autotune. Really disappointed. The song itself, was really catchy. Well, it took me a few listens to get into the feel of the song, but I got there. Basically, the girls made me “Fall In  Love” with the song. As for touching them over here and touching them over thereOverall, actually satisfied with the outcome of the new style and song.

The music video was really lame. Like, it lacked everything that a 2NE1 video contains. Where are the really extreme horns and hairstyles? Where are the bats that break glass? Where is the angry faces and big sets that we all love the band for? You see, after a group creates a style, they should stay with it. If they are confident with changing styles, they have to be 150% sure that they will be okay, because if they don’t it could mean the downfall for the band. The music video was very summery, however the beach set looked fake as a photographer’s studio. The amount of gold (or items painted as gold) was over the top in the video. The video, too had, this mythological feel to it. It seem ancient Greek with the costumes the people were wearing. which looked really “unnatural”. 2NE1’s acting in the video really does suck. It seems forceful and really unnatural as well. However, I was really satisfied with the summer feel the video has and the solo shots throughout the video. They really seem to fit the band’s style. Overall, I was quite disappointed in the video, but felt it did fit the song.

The dance is really summery and really feminine. It really does not look that good on its own, but does suit the song and the music video. There are none of the “slutty” dances that many of us see nowadays in this comeback, which really makes the dance that extra memorable.

6/10. Song, music video and dance was okay, but the whole comeback was quite disappointing. It could’ve been much better. Let’s hope “Very 2NE1” is “Very 2NE1”.

No No No – A Pink

Source: http://www.hellokpop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/20130705_A_Pink_NoNoNo_mv.jpg

A Pink recently made their comeback with a brand new mini album titled as Secret Garden. Their title song this time around is “No No No”. This is the first time that the band has promoted after the departure of one of their former band members, which did arise a lot of suspicion why Yookyung left. Was it forced upon her or did she leave on her accord? No one basically knows why, except for the people involved. They also promoted the song on one stage before releasing the mini album and music video a day later. Just some interesting facts to note and that I really could not think of anything to right.

Damn, this is one catchy as song. Seriously I was really satisfied with this song the first time I heard it. The chorus was the most catchiest part. The song, itself is about encouragement and many find the song really supportive. However, the song really won’t get any awards this time around. They are going ahead with artists such as 2NE1, Infinite, Ailee and other widely known artist for getting many awards. But, this song still has it points to rank high on the charts. My most favourite part would be the chorus. Also, before I forget, does anyone think of My My when they hear this song? My My was another of their songs, which won them an award in the past. This song is like the upgraded version of My My. The instrumental is really cool and catchy, as well has an electro feel to it.

The music video was really cute. There is not much to say about the video beside the girls dancing and the girls making presents to encourage someone, with cakes and decorations. This video is very pink, mind you. However, I did see this when I was watching the video. no door

Where on earth did they come from? As you can see, there is no doors, just a pink wall. A lot of pink on the walls. The love the white set, where the circles are ascending from the air. They give off a really refreshing feel to it. In addition with the girls, I think this is a music video fans and a lot of males will swoon over and love.

The dance is amazing. Really love the “jumping-shuffling-moving to the sides-hands on the hips” dance which really looks good and fits the song really well. The different formations that this dance has is really cool and amazing. It also too gives off a refreshing feel to the whole comeback.

9/10. Excellent comeback, in my point of view. Just make a little more sense in the music video another time around.

Hot & Cold – Jewelry

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Jewelry-Hot-and-cold-mv.png

Jewelry recently joined the July comeback rush with a brand new refreshing song, Hot & Cold. They released their newest single in July. Seriously, the longest running girl group in KPOP is like the most underrated band ever. I was totally surprised that the group have not earned an award since their One More Time days and it seems like the group is losing fame quickly. Look At Me was their last single, released in October 2012 and was really good, but it failed to win any awards. Seriously underrated.

The song has that classy feel to it. It sounds really posh and rich. However, I find the song really boring. It does not really appeal to me in anyway. The only part I like in this song is the ‘Hot & Cold” part. beside that, everything else is boring. Baby J’s rap does not fit the song as well, but as the only thing I think she can do is rap, they have to include a rap part for her. The vocals are very powerful but are not the best for this song. The chorus itself is not that catchy as other songs and really this is a let down. The bridge actually fits the song, but I still think it is a bit too slow for me. The song was quite upbeat, but sadly the bridge slowed it down.

The music video is too quite boring. It did not do what it was meant to do. In the video, we see the four girls in jail because of their stalking business. It was revealed that the girls were stalking the police officer in the video, which landed them into jail. However, as smart girls, they start flirting with the officer, as they are closer to him now. The plot of the video was fine, but everything in the music video seems fake and unrealistic. The video was really lame and the whole song did not fit the feel of the video. Or the video did not fit the feel of the song. Overall, I was really disappointed. I doubt that there will be stage lights in the jail cells, or no physical wall on the other side of the cell. Yes I was disappointed. And especially how calm the officer was with four girls flirting with him at his desk. The officer did not even do anything. Sadly, I don’t think he is that qualified.

The dance is pretty cool, in my point of view. Especially the hip motion and all of that stuff. I also like the hand movements of the “Hot & Cold” parts. Really cool.

3/10. Quite disappointed. Though I am still giving points for classiness and stuff, I was really disappointed.

Baby I’m Sorry – MYNAME

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/myname.png

MYNAME recently made their comeback with their latest song, Baby I’m Sorry. The song was released on July 4th and their music video has since been an instant hit. Because of the that, the music video section of this review is larger than ever, and the intro, song part and dance will be shortened.

The piano instrumental at the start is very soothing. As the song progresses we hear the song build up in power, and is released at the end really well. The raps and vocals are very powerful. My most favourite parts the vocal parts just before the chorus, by Insoo. Also, Insoo seems to dominate most of the song, which is a change considering that Seyong and Gunwoo had dominated most of the others songs they released in the past. The song itself is about how willing a guy is able to let go of a girl because of the things he has done. However if you pair it up  the video, the song can be seen as something else.

In the music video we can see: a group of friends are having fun on the beach, when the fifth friend comes back without beer (underage drinking, much?) with a bloodied face. The other friends go back and attack the gang who attacked their friend. In the present day, we see the group still best of buddies, however, their leader (Gunwoo)went into the gang business, much to his friends’ disapproval, while the others too are living their normal lives. The leader is recruited into one of the biggest gang in the area. The rivalry between the gangs are so large, that the boss guy orders Gunwoo to attack, but not kill the other gang leader. Insoo, one of the friends, sees and tells the others.  The “attacked” leader hires one of the other friends, Seyong to protect him and fight back.  Both cross paths, and obviously Seyong is angry at Gunwoo for going down that specific path. Seyong is bribed into killing Gunwoo’s gang leader, but does not successfully completes the mission and is killed in the act. Gunwoo comes back to see a body being dragged out. He also texted his dead friend about the past and how he misses it but is told by one of his friends that his boss killed Seyong. Gunwoo goes back for revenge with the other members as well, but all died in the end. Gunwoo is bashed, but shot to death by the gang leader. One guy ends up saving his friend, but dies in the process, while the other is also killed. The weakest person tries his best to defend himself but his fear takes over him, killing him as well. We then realize that the leaders collaborated with each other to kill all the friends.

I may be bias when I say this, but there seems to be more to meets the eye. We can see throughout the whole video that the last member to die was pretty useless right? Well, no. It is definitely worth something when he is the last of the five to survive the whole ordeal. I am the weakest person of my friend/group, in terms of physical abilities and I can relate to this video. We see him struggling in his last final moments to get help, but indeeds fail. I see this as all the members can be depended on. The stupid one, the smart one, the strong one or the weak one, all have their place in the group. I think the music video focuses on the friendship aspect of the group rather than the gang life or the actual violence in the video. It is a really well done video and seriously, a movie must be made of this.

The dance is pretty intense and hard to follow. However it still looks pretty cool and really “up there” in terms of standard. The dance seems to fit the power of the song and its seriousness.

10/10. Really, best song, video and dance by the group to date. AMAZING.

Top Girl – G.Na

The last of the three consecutive reviews of past hit songs and the sixth review over all. Top Girl by G.Na was released on the 23rd of August 2011, as a part of an mini album by the artist herself. Interesting fact here: Banana’s was a song that G.Na and her company expected that she was going to promote, however it was deemed as inappropriate. It was meant to be the second song on the single. A short version of the music video for Banana was released, but never was the full version. Top Girl earned G.Na an award, making her one of the hottest KPOP female soloist, alongside Lee Hyori and BoA. Let’s continue about the review.

The song talks about how a guy can “Be On Top” if they went out with G.Na. And boy, will they “Be On Top” when they go out with her. As you can see from my awful english so far, the very start of the song was what I really liked about the whole song. “Don’t you want to be on top, Can’t you see that I can’t stop” was amazing and definitely a great opener to the song in my books. However, the song has that feminine feel to it, which makes it kind weird for me. It is really catchy, but not really THE song for me. The chorus is not overly great as I would have expected, but the bridge of the song makes up for lost ground. Vocals were really good for me and her English blended in with the song really well. But again, as I said, the song is not for me. I like it, but not for me.

The music video was pretty interesting. Not sure if that is meant to be a good thing or a bad thing. G.Na is really pretty in this video, however some of the close ups kind of make her look old. Is it me or am I just looking into the video a little too much. Also, flying diamonds don’t exist. So why at 0:28, when the diamonds go flying in the air, they don’t drop? Why? I am also not that sure about the set for the first chorus. I can’t tell if that is meant to be an abstract thing or a ferris wheel. Another thing, according to this video, cars drive in the middle of the road. I am sure, that in every other part of the world, everyone drives to the side of the dotted roads not on them. I am, too not sure about the dance scene with all the water, though it is the best dance and performance with water I have seen ever. the fireworks at the end kind of work, but they kind of stuff up the view of the artist and make make the whole scene stuff up. Also, was I the only one creeped out with G.Na sitting there? Just think of something like The Grudge just jumping out of no where? No, not scary now? Well, you have courage my friend.

The dance itself is a little too feminine for me as well. Honestly, it is okay, but not the best dance by G.Na. I believe that Black and White or 2Hot has much better dances as well.

6.5/10. Pretty good, but the whole package is not for me. Sorry.

Mirror Mirror – 4Minute

Source: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1pYGnF84iT4/Twq1tAxIvRI/AAAAAAAAIsU/meejAjhrP3c/s1600/4minute-mirror-mirror.jpg

This is like the fourth review of the past hit songs, 2nd review of the consecutive three, G.Na’s Top Girl being the next song to be reviewed. Mirror Mirror was released as the title track for the band’s first album in April 2011. Earning them only one award, this song still managed to top charts and given skyrocket the girl’s fame even further. Okay, let’s get this straight. I absolutely disliked this song when it first came out. I felt it was not their mojo to come out with a song like this. However, 2 years on, I have finally lived to the point where the song has warmed upon. I really do like it and think it is an awesome song now, rather than when it first came out. That is just a bit of a heads up for this review.

The song has its good and bad points. The high notes were amazing, JiYoon’s parts before the chorus were superb etc. However, it seems like the bad points kind of weigh the song down. At the very start, I keep on hearing “4Minute Sluts” beside “4Minutes Left”. Seems like Hyuna agree with the slutty rumours then? The most annoying part would have to be the chorus. I do enjoy it now, but a part of me still does feel that the chorus is lacking something. It really does not get my mind in the right mood to hear the song. Also, the giggles has to go. They are useless and a total distraction to the song. Also JiYoon’s rap was too kind of useless. There was no feeling in the song and I found it really boring. It changed up the beat of the song so much, I just thought, why the last minute addition to the song? So as you can see, the song was overall okay. Not the best song, but not that bad to give it a really bad score.

As for the music video, a lot of mirrors were used in the making of the video. Like a lot. If mirrors were worth 100 dollars each, the whole set was really expensive. Okay, sarcasm over, this is the most boring video I have seen in KPOP. There is not one piece of fun or seriousness in this video. Some of the sets got me kind of, WTF?, like the road scene. What was that meant to mean anyway? Also, frizzled hair, out. I hate frizzled hair and it really does not suit JiHyun. Sorry guys. They also used a lot of reflective stuff. Even though the song is called Mirror Mirror, it seemed over the top to literally combine all the mirror that come from all over the world and make a 3 minute video about it. Also, I am not sure of the very last scene where the 4Minute emblem drops down and digs itself into the concrete. Kind of weird? It made no sense. So yeah, not that happy with the video.

As for the dance, wow. It can be sure deemed sluttly, particularly the one in the music video. It seems that the band toned it down for the stage, but it really was not good at all. JiYoon’s rap part, no. I do like the idea of the hands acting like mirrors. And those purple circle, what purpose do they have? What on earth are they on about? Cause, Mirror Mirror on the wall does not have purple lines go through it.

3.5/10. That is only the song though. The rest seemed crap. Not the standard that I personally would go for, for a great song.

Heart To Heart – 4Minute

The third review of past hit songs by big name groups, and the first of three consecutive reviews of the same topic. Heads up, 4Minute’s Mirror Mirror and G.Na’s Top Girl will be reviewed next. May decide which “past” song I will review next by the end of G.Na’s review. Anyway, off topic. But on topic. Heart To Heart was chosen as the second promotional song for the groups back in 2011, when they released their first studio album. It must be noticed that the song itself was released in March, and was deemed as a digital single in March 2011. The songs were then re-released on the first album of the band. It was also used as the follow-up song for the band’s promotion.

This song is really addictive. It was a change for the girls to be seen in this way, particularly their last releases and the level of seriousness of Hyuna when she makes her “comebacks”. Hyuna, JiYoon & Gayoon have been dominate a lot of the songs that the band has released. This, however, gives the last two members Jihyun and Sohyun more lines in which they usually have. This song has that extra sweet sound to it, which makes the song much different. Many were not happy with this particular song as it did not fit the girls image. This song is more of the aegyo type, which I agree, does fit the band. However, the song is really catchy and has that addictiveness that many KPOP songs have that I enjoy. The song talks about how a weak some men are when fessing up to cheating to their girlfriends. Interesting and different.

The music video, yeah, it is a bit extreme. I guess they are either pro prankers or really really stupid amateurs. It starts off with a couple, who are perfectly in sync with each other. But as time passes, they grow apart. Or just the guy. She is suspicious that something is up, so she investigates and that proves her idea of a cheating boyfriend. Or really she just happened to stumble upon the cheating boyfriend when she is partying with friends at a club. She confronts him at the club, but he plays it cool and does not know her. He however, it quite suprised. Then, they do a lot of pranks on the boyfriend. Spraying food to make it hard,  substituting whipping cream for shaving cream (which he really does not need, as he does not need to shave at all), putting glue into his toothpaste (the scene where they are laughing is hilarious). Then they decide to manipulate his car. Hey loser. How on earth do you not notice a group of girls laughing in the background? It is not like they are laughing silently or anything. They also go to lengths of making him sit on a cardboard box and giving him lingerie at a workplace. Original. However, the last prank kind of ruined the long run of perfect pranks. He make him faint so laming-ly, so they can take a picture of him and photoshop him, making him a criminal.  What a really bad piece of art they made there. That was badly photoshop.

The dance is quite okay. It bounces to the music and the girl’s intention behind the song fit the softness of the dance.

7/10. Pretty cool. Seems pretty good overall. Would definitely recommend the music video, just for laughs (or threatening your boyfriend for whatever action they may have committed). Hey not giving any ideas here. Linked in the playlist below, is the Korean version and the Japanese version of the song. Enjoy~

Baby – John Park

Source: http://i1.wp.com/24-7KPOP.COM/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/John-Park-Baby-MV.jpg?resize=980%2C548

John Park, after a long year has finally made his comeback with a new song from his first album. Truthfully, the review was meant for AAA’s Love Is In The Air. It was about to start it until I noticed that the actual song has not be released yet and that only the “short” version of the music video has been released. My bad. Anyway, I am really enjoying the album overall. It has a really catchy tune to it, which fits John Park really well. Is it me or are solo artists who are not a part of groups (such as G.Na, Roy Kim, John Park etc.) are either doing really well on charts or are winning a award for each song.

This Baby song is really catchy, rather than Justin Bieber’s. I also thought that John Park was a much better singer than his counterparts and competition. He has one of the best voices that sound sweet and mellow. This song shows that she can do many styles. From his last song, Falling, which was more a serious side, where everything was slow and emotional. This song on the other hand had more of an upbeat instrumental, which carries more energy than Falling.  The lyrics are quite Sweet, as a girl would describe the lyrics talking about how a guy is attracted to a girl, as seen in the music video as well. The song is really great and says that summer tune which everyone in the Northern Hemisphere is in, and us Southern Hemisphere are not. The song itself is really catchy and the instrumental is superb. The drums with the guitar is pretty cool and by far a really good love song this year from the band that does not step over the line of hurt or pain. Recommended.

Wow, as a science freak. I love this video. A lot of attraction occurred in this video. Let’s just say that physical attraction and chemistry attraction occurred in this video. We get a sense that the guy (John Park) is like the North Pole in this video, at the start everything in the apart was attracted to him. However, when he meets this girl, who happens to live next door, everything went opposite and her charm (or force of attraction) was much stronger than his, making all the objects that were attracted to him, attracted to her (including him). That lead him to deducing that she in the one for him and that he should take advantage as an attraction to sing behind as she pushes the trolley along the longest stretch of road, behind a factory. Like where is this apartment? In some run down place. Oh, that would explain the horrible hallway. Oh girl, I don’t want to be rude or anything but are you deaf. He is singing to you, as you walk around an area where there are no other people. Yet you don’t turn around at all until he bumps into you. Also, when you opened that door to check out that “presence”. Has it not occurred to you that the door was a lot heavier now compared to when you first opened it? No? And how on earth are you meant to change the light tube if you are standing well away from the light itself? Beats me. I like the video a lot, but there were some scenes that I thought, no. It was colourful, I think they portrayed attraction really well.

On the topic of attraction. When his glasses and necklace were raised up towards the girl in the elevator, it looked kind of wrong, hence me deduction on the “chemistry” attraction.

The live only consisted of the guy singing and a live band, so nothing much here. Though it looks like he is enjoying his time there.

8/10. Pretty good solid comeback. I was thinking of slipping in a Justin Bieber joke into the review, but it would be a little weird, since I am not reviewing him or anything.
