Despite being on stage just a few months ago with Error, VIXX has returned to the stage in 2015. But I agree with everyone. You can never have too much VIXX. But seriously, these poor boys (and it is not just these boys. Countless other idol groups, big or small) are probably working their asses off to get their name in place within the industry. Big name bands usually have only 1 or two comebacks within a year with massive gaps in between. This allows them to focus on individual work and rest. And that is one downside to the industry. Wait, this is now a rant? Okay. I shall end here. Bottom line: VIXX is working extremely hard and they deserve a break. Maybe not as bad as 2013 was a more hectic year. And maybe not to the extent that B.A.P needed a break. But still, they are pretty tired.
This is a remake of the 1995 of R.ef’s hit single Farewell Formula. And for those who don’t know, R.ef was a widely known group back in the day, though I don’t think they are active anymore. Though I have not heard the original song yet, I am going to take a massive stab in the dark that VIXX’s version is going to be modern and sound quite similar to the original. At the same time, I believe Ravi wrote the rap to the song, which was a great addition because that “Ha Ha Ho Ho” part of the rap was freaking amazing. Actually, all the members stood out for once. For a moment, I was kind of concerned that Hongbin was the only member to get one part of the song but my worries were at ease when I saw the live performances. Ken’s high notes just keep on getting higher and pretty sure is competing against Leo for the best high note belt-er. The English in this song really needs to be worked on. “Love is incomplete” but when Ravi says it: “Love is incompetent”? Also “Love Ekation” kind of made me go insane. Not making fun of his poor English, just it needs a little more work.
The music video is okay. Damn, I miss the dark side of VIXX time and time again when I see concepts like this. But then again, they bring in fresh air for those who quickly tire of the same old thing time and time again. I guess they went for the “boy next door” image this time around. They played basketball, played video games. However, they are reminded of the past with their exs. N got rejected in the video, while Ken was completely heartbroken when he realized his girlfriend was not next to him anymore. I have no idea what Hongbin was doing. He seemed to be un-phased (at the start of the video only) about the whole love idea. He was later reminded of his love when he packed all the things that belonged to her away though. Hyuk, on the other end, tried his best to make Ravi happy. But something tells me that he made Ravi go a little to the angry side. Overall, the video was light and fun, which is fitting to the song. It was a little boring, but it did its job pretty well.
As for the dance. I liked it. It was difficult like VIXX’s normal dances and had a VIXX feel to it. I love it how they included the Error concept in this dance as well. A big part of the choreography (and I kid you not) is the amount of smiles made by Leo at the camera. Though N looks a lot serious now, so I don’t really know anymore.
That was a long review. I badly want to review Memory off their mini album this time. That song was totally an amazing song on the mini album. But nevertheless, the comeback was pretty good. Changed up from their signature dark concepts, but still pretty solid. 8/10
Welcome to the end of the 2014 charts. This chart has every single song that was released from the 1st of January 2014 to the 1st of December. I left the nitty gritty stuff out (aka. the numbers I used for the ranking) and made sure that everything was fair. So that means for songs that were released towards the end of the year would have received some extra increment to make sure that they were levelled out with the songs released in January. Other numbers used included whether songs were on the YouTube Playlist of The Month and each song was re-reviewed in categories of “song, music video and dance”. Below are just some interesting facts that you may enjoy in regards to this chart.
The very first song released to be included on the charts are Rain’s 30 Sexy and La Song. The last song released before the cut off date was Infinite F’s Heartbeat.
T-Ara’s Sugar Free (2) was the only song throughout the whole chart to score the maximum of 40 for the song re-review.
VIXX is the first boy group to appear in the charts at 14th place with Eternity.
As touched on above, this year the charts are dominated by the girl groups, with 13 boy groups versus 37 girl groups (repeated groups not excluded).
Heavily promoted songs tend to rank higher than songs that were released as a single and not promoted.
The following artists achieved the next few positions after 50th place: SPEED, Crayon Pop, Z:EA, Zhou Mi (Super Junior), BTOB, Infinite, UKISS, AOA and Gain (Brown Eyed Girls)

THAT’S IT!!! 2014 IS OVER AND 2015 IS APPROACHING. WISHING YOU ALL (IN YOUR RESPECTIVE TIME ZONES) A HAPPY NEW YEAR. I only have 6 hours to go and I am excited. Party hard (but not too hard) and I will see you next year!! aka. in the next few days ^^
Code: RED FONT – WINNERS BLUE FONT – HONOURABLE MENTION
BEST ROOKIE GROUP
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
2014, like the past few years, have seen so many new KPOP bands debut. So many new bands, so much that I have a really difficult job to select certain artists and also keep up with the old styles. 2014 saw the big 3 companies debut their own groups, but I have to be honest, the stand outs came mostly from the smaller companies. One group in particular stood out from the rest: Mamamoo. Harmony and totally different style from what we are used to. Honourable mentions go to GOT7.
BEST INSTRUMENTAL
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
The one song that is overlooked by everyone on the album is the instrumental. I freaking love instrumentals, and this year, KPOP decided to tease me with so many new instrumentals. That being said, this year the winner of Best Instrumental is Ain’t Nobody by Ye-Eun (Ha:tFelt). Honourable mentions go to Sugar Free by T-Ara.
BEST VOCALS
WINNER
KPOP = Singing. There for it is only right for this year to have an award for Best Vocals, right? Well, the winner goes to Ha:tfelt – Ye Eun (Wonder Girls). I was so amazed by here singing this year that it blew my mind, particularly her title track Ain’t Nobody. Honourable mentions go to IU (yes, I think most of us agree).
BEST RAPPER
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
Many KPOP songs have many rapping parts. At the same time, rappers need some recognition. Though, I feel my choice this year could be a little odd, only one person (in my opinion) did a really amazing job. Junhyung from Beast did a wonderful job in Good Luck, 12:30 and the many songs he featured in. Zico from Block B takes Honourable Mentions.
BEST SUBUNIT
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
Since 2013, many subunits have been on trend. Even though subunits have been losing trend, many bands this year debuted their own subunits. However, I think we should move away from the new subunits. Cause this year an old subunit wins. Orange Caramel steals Best Subunit with release of three different songs. Honourable mentions goes to Rainbow Blaxx.
BEST COLLABORATION
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
The new trend for 2014. Collaborations between artists have been on the rise. This year though, if you were a KPOP fan for a while, you would know already who the winner is. Soyu & JungGiGo’s Some steals the show, topping the end of year charts conducted in South Korea and winning Best Song as well on the SBS Music Festival. Well of course they would win, considering that they SLAYED the charts. Honourable Mentions go to Sane and Raina’s collaboration, Midsummer Night’s Sweetness.
RISING STAR OF THE YEAR
WINNER
WINNER
This year there has been so many stars that have started to become more popular. The nominees tend to be bands that have debuted in the previous year, and with help of comebacks, started to become well known in the industry. I think for the first time ever, I am going to be honest and put forward two winners to this category. First of all, BTS say a boost in popularity and have become a band that I look forward to listening to. Second of all AOA saw new popularity with release of Miniskirt, Short Air and Like A Cat. Both bands, obviously, rose a lot this year and I found it hard to differentiate them.
BEST JAPANESE SONG
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
If you don’t know (I won’t be surprised) I also review some Japanese song. 2015 will be the year where I start to review more Japanese songs for you all. However, 2014 also had a lot of catchy and cool Japanese songs. The winner for this year is Korean boy band MYNAME’s F.F.Y. Such a catchy song. As for honourable mentions, it goes to AAA’s Showtime.
BEST DANCE
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
KPOP is also known for its dancing. 2014 saw some interesting dances, catchy dances, and some dances that have no words to describe it. And that can be a good thing or a bad thing. This year, T-ara took the position as best dance. It was probably the most addictive dance and it was pretty easy as well. It matched the song and most importantly, I loved it. Honourable mentions to Infinite’s Back.
BEST ALBUM
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
A brand new category for 2014. Every award show or some kind of award giving platform has the “best album” award. And yes, this year, there are so many freaking great albums (like any other year). In my opinion, the best album of the year goes to F(x)’s Red Light. All, if not most, of the songs were amazing to listen to and were so great. Every freaking song was different, and though that maybe risky, F(x) pulled it off as a flowing album. Honourable Mentions goes to AKMU’s Play.
BEST MALE SOLOIST
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
Solos don’t tend to be the trend this year. Some bands saw new members branch into a solo career, however it seems like more and more KPOP idols (whether male or female) are branching out to acting or variety shows. However, the winner to this category is a person who started offically his own solo career with a lot of experience in the music industry. Crush is the winner. Damn, this dude’s songs are so good. You should check them out. Honourable mentions: JungGiGo.
BEST FEMALE SOLOIST
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
It seems like more and more females are branching out onto the stage. We saw many KPOP divas making their solo debuts on the stage with new and fresh songs from bands like T-Ara or Secret. We already have divas who have accomplished a start to their solo career and saw comebacks of very big names. This year, one solo stood out and that is Secret’s Song Ji Eun. Releasing her first solo mini album, she did quite well considering the competition she was going through. Honourable Mentions goes to Sunmi.
BEST FEMALE GROUP
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
Sexy concept by girl groups have been on the rise. If you know me well, then you probably already know my pick. However, so many girls groups made their comeback this year. Some picked up a lot of popularity and saw massive wins for the first time. Girl’s Day hitted big with their amazing single Something. They later went on to release Darling and I Miss You. Being one of the biggest girl groups of the year, they were sure to pick some prize up. APINK steals honourable mentions this year with their massive single Mr Chu and their latest hit Luv, which blew up and swept all the December trophies for 2014.
BEST MALE GROUP
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
There have always been a large influx of boy groups and this year it is no different. I was so impressed I was just going to choose all 10 nominees as winners. However, there can only be one winner (well, technically), so I guess I have to choose one. I am going to put down VIXX. They released Eternity and Error this year and both songs were hits for the band. Not only that, they displayed great dance moves and skills. Beast takes out honourable mentions with Good Luck and 12:30, both being very great songs that also delivered like what VIXX had to show. (Just VIXX nudged a head a little bit).
BEST MUSIC VIDEO
WINNER
HONOURABLE MENTION
This year, most of my Best Music Video Nominees saw the depressing side of KPOP. 8 music videos had this sad or dark storyline to tell. 2 music videos were made in a soft hearted and were really cheerful. G.o.D’s music video for The Story Of Our Lives, told the amazing bond between family and that the outside will never be able to define the inside. Megan Lee features in the song and both band and soloist did an amazing job singing and pouring out their emotions. By the way, SM made a video outside of the box. F(x)’s Red Light, takes honourable mention.
BEST SONG
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
25 songs were nominated for Best Song for 2014. All were to an excellent standard. There were clear stands out. Something by Girl’s Day, EXID’s Up and Down and Beast’s Good Luck are this year’s honourable mentions. However, which song took Best Song category for 2014? Check the song and music video down below.
These groups are seen as the next generation boy bands and are currently rising to be the next top boy groups in South Korea. And this review consist of 4 songs, let’s move along now.
To fans out there, I am going to apologise to you guys. This song was much a bore for me. It was not appealing. I just listened to it once and then forgot about it. The vocals were so so and the rapping was okay, however it was not as great as Teen Top’s last song Rocking. The music video was pretty dark. I have to give points for such an amazing set though, which enhanced the darkness. From what I can see, CAP and this girl used to go out, but then CAP got a little addicted to partying or something, which caused his girlfriend to break off. He then (and I only assume) takes his life. L.Joe is a friend of both (as per seen in flashbacks) and is deeply sadden by both the death of his friend but also sadden to see the girl sad. He helps her get back on their feet, however both cannot forget CAP. Fortunately enough, L.Joe and the girl realized that both are there for each other and bond. The dance was pretty cool, however it just felt empty. 4/10
This song has a latin feel to it, which makes it sound pretty nice. The “Cause your body goes boom bara boom” is pretty catchy. The music video on the other hand… The band suits the dark theme (why haven’t they attempted this when they debuted?) but the acting in this is so horrible. Everything was exaggerated from what I saw. That final fight scene, made the whole group look so pathetic. Moving away from the music video. The dance was phenomenal. The use of the curtains made the whole thing fresh and original. I was so amazed. And the curtains were not just in the background, they were used to cover up the people not dancing or singing. Just wow… 5/10 (most taken away because of the video, but the song is definitely one to check out.)
This is a pretty catchy song. It just lacked the ability to be very memorable. I honestly expected something like Beep Beep, which had a more serious tone to it. Though, the vocals and rapping were okay, just they don’t yell out at me. The music video is protrayed in a humorous way, where the shop keeper tries to get the boys to recognise the beauty in the more “ugly” girls. And she does this by giving them coffee. Poor Sungjae though, only getting one drop and hence the love potion not working on him. Dance was also pretty cool. And I guess chairs are the new trend. 6/10
I think I am starting to become addicted with this band. Every title (note the word title) song that they released, I get strangely addicted to. However this song, really does not have that VIXX feel that we all know of. Though, the vocals are pretty good as per usual. The music video for this song tells a story of this dude (Hongbin) and his lover. The lover dies, and Hongbin decides to create a robot version of the lover, to save him from the pain. Everything works out, just the authorities come in and finds out that the lover robot is illegal. Hongbin saves her from the authorities and then take their lives to be together forever. Great acting from the characters though. The dancing here was really cool, especially the ending where they pull the plugs out of their necks. 7/10
Ahhh.. finally. Done this review. The next review actually does not have a theme to it. Sadly. However, I can tell you that AOA, Hello Venus and Zhou Mi from Super Junior M will be reviewed. See you then!!!
VIXX returned with Eternity after a successful year of promotions which earned them their first weekly music show award and also earned them a Bonsang award at one of the important end of year awards shows (Seoul Music Award). They also managed to secure their name as one of the rising KPOP groups with their dark concepts. This time around they came back with another dark concept but with more of a traditional concept mashed into it as well. Romantic boys. Did it work out? Well, according to the fans, the group has managed to show off their immerse popularity by managing to win against big names, earning themselves two more awards than what they previous had. Definitely a group to keep you eye on.
The group has gone for a dance anthem this time around, with the song being really really well done. I have no complaints with this song. Well, there is 1. It is too freaking short. The instrumental is pretty hardcore with the cool party (dubstep) instrumental giving the song that needed “impact” for me to like. Ravi’s rapping in this song, even though it was quite limited, sounded really good. The vocals were really top notch. Leo and Ken’s high notes at the end just blew me away. Hyuk and Hongbin both have more lines this time around, much better than Voodoo Doll, where Hyuk only had 1 line. The song built up from the moment it started and pretty much unleashed at the choruses. The song flowed pretty well, though when I first heard I thought there be some odd section where the song had slowed down a lot. Overall, a top of the game song.
In the music video, each guys has these moments with the girl. Like the girl. Only one freaking girl. Like there is no other girl in this world and that they had to chase after this one girl. This one girl who happens to disappear into thin air (literally) towards the end, leaving the guys alone. That or the girl has no idea she is dating everyone from the same group. Anyway, so they have their love moments, but then it turns out that their imagination is playing them and the girl was not there at all, leaving the boys to look lost and depressed. Good story line. However, did they have all these “loving” moments in the same room. And let’s ignore the fact there is a large wheel in the room as well. I like the dancing sets as well. Pretty cool. Especially the effect where they disappear except for Ravi and then all appear in the middle for a later part of the dance and song. That was pretty cool.
The dance was awesome. The wave dance, the clock work dance that they drop at times. And I loved the start. The slo motion backwards walking and stuff. Not only that, but they went slow motion a few times, giving that extra reinforcement that this song has something to do about the past. Really well thought out and done well. And the throwing of the members Ken and N to stand up was pretty cool as well.
I honestly have no to little complaints about this song comeback. A near prefect comeback in my point of view. 9.5/10.
Hello once again. I apologise for my absence. I was meant to write and publish this review on the Monday, but I guess homework got in the way once again. But anyway, I am back and probably will be writing a whole heap of reviews to be able to schedule them for the next few weeks. Today, I will be reviewing a new rookie group. Wow. Like already 32569050 rookie groups and here I am trying my best to review them. On top of that, Mamamoo, a girl group consisting of members Solar, MoonByul, WhaSa and WheeIn, recruited the help of hit soloists K.Will and Wheesung to be in this song. For those who don’t know, this group debuted in January with the song Don’t Be Happy, featuring Bumkey. I guess this is their comeback, but then again, they really did not promote their other song as well. But not only that, but VIXX’s Hongbin and N participated in the music video of this song as well. But enough background info, on with the review.
This song is freaking amazing. Honestly, I love it and it has to be the new song I am currently digging. That retro and jazzy vibe this song has mixed up with the electro instrumental sound like the most sexiest couple in the world got together and had babies, who were equally as sexy. The rapping in this song is prefect. I cannot ask for more. The vocals are equally amazing. Though I think the girls should have contributed a little more vocal work to the song, putting K.Will and Wheesung into the song makes it quite popular. Now, I know this band has four members. But from start to end, I feel like I only heard one person. I don’t know if I like that or not, but it seems to be pretty original. The song is about comparing love to sweets and candies. Original right? Also, the whole sound of the song overall is much different to any song out there at the moment and probably any song in the future to come. They pulled this song off really well.
The music video is also quite good. I love the filtering of the colours in the video. I don’t know why, but I find this music video really pleasant to watch. There is not much going on and it is overly cluttered. I would say there is a plot, but for some reason this video is not large on the plot. It is more focus on showing off the members in a fashion show kind of sense which I really like. Those colourful scenes look quite retro and really brings back the good retro feel to the song and video. The music video is quite low budget, but I like how they covered it up with the editing and the lighting in the video. I guess the plot of the video is basically some people trying to find the “love pill” of love. Now that sounds absolutely disgusting and gross, but hey, it fits the title of the song. Also, bringing VIXX’s N and Hongbin into the music video make the whole thing so much bigger.
Please don’t tell me I am the only one who loves this song. 10/10. No ifs and no buts. Last week I asked which Gain song you guys preferred, and it seemed like FxxK U was enjoyed the most. Truth Or Dare came in second. Both songs came in third place. YAY! At least someone out there enjoyed the mini album as well. But also enjoy this song as well.
Woah, 2013 is over (Soz, a tad late) and each year KPOP fans always end up looking forward to the end of year music festivals. These “festivals” are held on the final days of the year by the 3 major boradcasting companies of South Korea (ie. KBS, SBS, MBC). It is a stage where the artists who are active during the year can come together and celebrate by putting on some music and performing different stages from the ones that they had promoted during the year. So this means there are many different collaborations between artists or remix stages which would have fans screaming for. Because there happens to be little songs to review at this time of the year (end of Jan, don’t ask why), I thought I do this and release it in time for the Vietnamese (Or Chinese) New Year!!!!!
KBS Gayo Daechukje
Honestly, I was not satisfied with any of the collabs. They seem to be a last minute thing which made the show rather messy. They had good songs, but Iw as not satisfied with the way they were presented.
Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar was a good stage. The start got everyone hyped up and when the song actually started, boy was the screams loud! It was rather fresh and different stage that everyone must’ve had enjoyed.
EXO’sIntro + Growl sounded amazing. Now if only they were not replayed 563495630295634092560 times this year and everyone talking about them, I would not think poorly of them. However the intro and the performance was really good.
APINK was one of the few bands to throw in a new instrumental for their “sexy version” of No No No. I enjoyed the dance and I liked the new mix.
Beast had a pretty cool stage as well. They kept their normal instrumental but made something interested out of it.
Sistar’s “femme fatale” Give It To Me looked really good. Minus the not so good looks of the dancers, I really liked their dance break and Dasom has my heart beating even faster.
Miss A’s remixes were amazing this year. I like them much better than the actual song. Amazing right?Well, honestly it is just a new instrumental over some parts and then the actual song itself. And Min, walking away like a boss and carrying on singing after getting hit in the face.
SBS Gayo Daejeon
First stage which I enjoyed was VIXX’sOn & On and VooDoo Doll. I honestly thought that Hyde and On & On would have been a better match, but they still seemed to pull it off pretty well. I think I am turning into a fan. Damn.
Z:EA and Nine Muses collaboration stage with Ghost Of The Wind, Glue and finally hit song Bounce was another stage that literally got me into it. It is such a good stage with the two bands together, where it was Nine Muses first time and Z:EA’s second time since debut.
Another collaboration stage goes to Girl’s Day and APINK’sExpectation and No No No. Honestly, it seemed APINK had less airtime than Girl’s Day. Not sure about the detail, but it kind seems unfair. But both suited the stage every well singing each other’s song.
Crayon Pop’sBar Bar Bar was pretty good. But the camera work destroyed the good stage.
T-Ara had a lot of hate, but I seemed to enjoy this stage. Number 9 but vampire version. Not much change to the song, except for really creepy dance breaks. And BOOOOBSSS!!!!!
2NE1 had an alight stage. Though they just sang Missing You and Do You Love Me?, this still had remarkable stage preference.
Taeyang and G-Dragon seemed to had some fun on stage. I liked the lineup of songs they had coming. They sung 1AM, Crooked, Ringa Linga and Bad Boy. Considering that the whole group as not there, they did a good job filling up 3 other parts as well.
MBC Gayo Daejejeon
Miss A’s classy club mix for Hush sounded the best and probably has to be my most favourite stage out of all the stages listed here. It sounded to sexy and cool all at the same time.
T-Ara’sNumber 9 and What Should I Do was a great stage. They combined the two songs into a club beat kind of song which flowed pretty well, considering the two extreme opposites for each song.
Ailee’s rapping before her performance , U&I, was da bomb.
F(x)’sRum Pum Pum Pum was pretty good as well. Was not as impressed with the original version though. But the instrumental and ending of this stage was awesome!!! And finally F(x) gets a stage remix for an end of year festival.
B1A4’s rock remix for What’s Happening? was also a pretty cool performance. Literally got me going with the beat.
Infinite brought a new thing to the stage with Destiny remixed with the instrumental of Deception. Something that was quite unexpected but sounded pretty good despite the two songs sounding completely different.
Give It To Me by Sistar was pretty cool as well if the little bit of dubstep (I think) mixed in the song as well. Hyorin’s intro with Sweet Dream was pretty cool.
Kara’s medley of songs was pretty good. And considering the departure of two members, it fitted the occasion. They performed Lupin, Step, Damaged Lady, Mister and Honey (not sure about the last one though.
If you watched the performances, which one did you like? Honestly, when I was watching the performances on YouTube, all I thought was that it seemed too much like a normal music show rather than something to be called a “End Of Year Festival”. I think these stages are losing their purpose. But anyway, still a fantastic line-up and amazing stages!!! What were your favourite stages of the three nights?
Hi all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Wow, 2013 is finally over. Can you believe it. With days to go, I will be unable to update this over my “break”. Beside that I have scheduled a whole heap of reviews. I promised you guys an End Of Year Charts, and with that very day 3-4 days away, I think it is time unleash the beast. Party hard! Welcome the new year in style! I will wish to see you all back on the 2nd of Jan 2013 (subject to change). At the very bottom of this post, there will be two links. One is a playlist for the winners of the BOB’s and the other is the top 20 songs of the year, as selected by this chart. Yay!!!!
It is finally Christmas and I am excited! And the year is already up. Sadly though. However, shall we continue with a more different review this time around? But before that, I just would like to wish everyone who will read this post a Merry Christmas. Enjoy your time, with family, friends or anyone else. Be thankful and be safe. Let’s enjoy the final few days of 2013 and ready to party with 2014. Anyway, today, it is really more of an impromptu review. Not score will be given for these reviews. I have review Lonely Christmas by Crayon Pop and Miracle Of December by EXO. There are however four more Christmas songs that I want to review and today will be three song reviews in one! Shall we get started???
Christmas Song – United Cube
United Cube is back with a lovely slow Christmas song that showcases the groups under A Cube Entertainment and Cube Entertainment. The artists in this song include: Beast, 4Minute, APink, G.Na, Huh Gak, Roh Ji Hoon, BTOB and Oh Ye Ri. Wow that is a lot of artists. Also included is Kim Gi Ri, the comedian for Gag Concert. The song has this soft tune that reminds you of a warm Winter’s night, like Christmas Night. Though the song starts off really slow and it takes quite a while for it enter a more Christmas-like song, by the end, you are bound to remember those warm Christmas nights with your loved ones. I think the rap was handle really well in this song which is pretty good, considering how raps tend to ruin a good song. And the whole song, vocally, sounds amazing.
Love Falls – Romantic J
Now we are getting into the more festive songs. This song may sound like a love song, which it is. I really love the jingle bell feel of the instrumental and how the vocals in this song are not hard hitting as powerful vocals. Though Jonghyun from CNBlue does not have as much lines as Juniel, the song still sounds amazing. His husky voice fits the tone of Juniel’s voice which makes the song have this beautiful duet. The song is quite addictive and sounds really good. I have been lipsyncing to this song since it came out. Though the music video may seem more of a romantic story, the song still carries the Xmas cheer. Yay! Also, this is a duo that I would love to hear more from.
Winter Propose – Jellyfish Entertainment
This song is the only song that is really close to those Christmas carols we here every year. Not exactly what I like, but it still does. It features all the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment including: VIXX, Seo In Guk, Sung Si Kyung, Park Hyo Shin and also a mysterious female singer (do I hear a singer debuting next year?). This song sounds amazing and really has that festive cheer to the song. It combines all of the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment and amazes me a lot. Though I was not much of a fan of their previous Christmas song and also their more experienced singers, this song gives you that warm feeling that makes you remember Christmas day and eve a lot.
Snow Candy – Starship Planet
The final song which gives off the happiest Christmas feeling of the year. It features Sistar, K.Will and Boyfriend and seems the most enjoyable song out there for memories of family and friends. Again, this song, along with the others vocally sounds amazing and the rap seemed to be handle really well by Bora and the Boyfriend rappers. Of course K.Will and Hyorin holds the main vocal part of this whole company venture, but with this song, I am going to let it slide. The music video also seems to be the most festive one out of the four. Pity that Dasom from Sistar was not a part of the filming, but probably have featured in the he song somewhere. Not sure where though.
Thank you for spending another year with me. Merry Christmas to all, wherever you are on this planet. Be happy and I will see you next time!!!! Click here for the winners of the BOBs
VIXX had previously returned with a new single, Only You. This song was released a part of the same album but prior to the release of VooDoo Doll. This song is really amazing and I have to say that there are a lot of love for this song. I reviewed Voodoo Doll first, because it was the main song on the album. But I just had to sit down and review song. It is so amazing. But before I give anything away, I will just move along to the next part of the review.
Finally, another ballad like song from the band. Last time I reviewed such a song from VIXX was Don’t Want To Be An Idol Any Longer which was equally as amazing. The difference with these two songs is that this song showcases the vocals of all the members, whereas the first song only showcases the main vocals of the band. This song has this really classy feel to it. The song also sounds quite old, but really it was released a few weeks ago. I love chorus. It had a thump thump feel to it, which makes it so much stronger. I really like the start of the song, but it was literally throughout the whole song and it did become a little annoying. I also like Leo’s vocal rap thing which he had after the first chorus. Ravi’s rap also has this vintage feel to it, which fits the song really well. I was quite impressed with the song.
The music video was beautifully shot. Showing the lovely sights of Sweden, I think. I may need to check up on that. Hahahaha… No, but how freaking amazing is this video. It still has that mature and dark feel to it, but at the same time it is much lighter and basically more “prettier” than their current song, Voodoo Doll. I really like how one member would walk into another’s shot and then just carry on singing. It is pretty cool. Not as cool as their reverse video, but it still looks amazing. It seems like in the future, I must travel to Sweden now. Hahahaha….
There is no dance. And I am thankful for that. The live performance are just them basically sitting around and singing.
10/10. Wow, this song and stuff is amazing. Like Voodoo as well, but I am a little more impressed with this song than their title track.
VIXX is back with a brand new song, released in a form of an album. Their first album. Arrrghhh!!!! How many promotional singles have they had? 6 songs if I am not mistaken to get to here. Amazing. Not only that, but they recently returned from a mini tour around Europe and the USA, which technically means they are really tired. You can see it through the heavy man liner which they have on their eyes. Not complaining, but I think this band is becoming like B.A.P. B.A.P released songs that consolidated that they were the badass group, while it seems like 2013 is the year were all Starlights would refer to the dark concept year, excluding G.R.8.U. Let’s get on with the review.
At first, I thought this song would not be as strong as On & On or Hyde, but then after listening to it many times, I soon realized what a freaking awesome song it is. Ravi’s infamous grunts before each song starts off this song, and then it launches straight into the song, showing the how hardcore this song is going to be. I love Hongbin’s parts in the song, that give the song that more freaky style. I also love the “Tick Tock” parts, giving also that more creepy style. Also the song does the opposite to what most songs would. Most songs would start of slowly, but this song started of fast and slowed down before the chorus. Ravi’s raps are always hardcore as well, and this song is no exception. My only complaint with the song is: that “Oooooo~” part sounds very similar to Ylvis’s “What Does The Fox Say”, like down right similar. But beside that, this song is awesome.
The music video shows the life of a voodoo doll. We get this really creepy start to the whole video. Then we are introduced to VIXX, in their enclosure, kept by an insane girl. One girl who enjoys doing things to the members that we all would shiver. Yes, don’t you worry. While I enjoy some gruesome stuff, this music video made me shiver. What makes it creepier is that girl is like laughing and enjoying what she is doing, which to me is really creepy. Another thing, Hongbin’s eyes. Yes that contact lenses where there is a cross in his eyes. That is down right scary. I really like the enclosure, there is something different for each member. The end is rather scary. She mutilates Hongbin to the point where he probably has no idea who he is anymore. I also love the scene where the doll grows sad and starts to run away, prompting the other members to run away as well, that part was pretty cool. The doll was so cute!!! Hahahaha…
The dance is pretty cool as well. I will complain about this, but why is N in the centre of each formation? The only time he is not, is when it is the end. Like when it is the chorus, N is front, while Leo is stuck singing behind him. Anyway, the like the dance because it is powerful as the song. They lie down and bang their feet in the air matching the times of the beat. And when they throw Ken up to start off the song. Also, like the inclusion of the stick. Mainly because I am not sure if it is meant to be a microphone. But many of the moves mimic the way someone is stabbing the doll, so that is pretty cool.
9/10. I am amazed everytime VIXX comes out with a new song. Every concept is fresh and different. Yes, this year is VIXX’s “dark concept” year.
[UPDATE: I usually don’t do this, but there boys really deserve a win. Today (6th Of December 2013) is finally their day. Congrats VIXX!]
VIXX are back with a new love song with OKDAl, an indie duo, if I am not mistaken. The band had shedded their dark and mysterious side, giving their all for a more cute and lovable side. Currently the band is on their little world tour thingy, going to different countries around the world to perform in. OKDAL is a female duo band, with really nice vocals. Both are basically a match in heaven. I feel like if I said anything else, here, I won’t have anything to say below. So here we go.
Wow, the guys sound amazing. The girls too! Their vocals together sound like they are a match. I absolutely love this song. It is soft and mellow. It is different to Hyde or On & On, which showed a lot of the dominant side of the band, but I find the band singing ballads absolutely amazing. I love their past ballads, and this one sounds amazing. The girls, though their voices were kind of soft, they were so amazing. Not sure about the rap though. last thing I wanted to hear in a song like this, was a rap, but then again, Ravi pulled it off without looking like a hardcore rapper or anything. The lyrics are amazing, and I love the “O, o, o, saranghae” part. It made the song very memorable and the soft instrumental gave it that little more gentleness.
The music video fits the song quite well. It does not scream loud, nor does it feel like it is conflicting with the song. It looked good and did not lack in anything, but I found it incredibly painful to watch. I like the band, but the music video was not as captivating, like one that I would go back and forth over and over again to just watch. But i guess it does itss jobs successful. I like the ending scene where they all sitting and standing about and also Ravi’s rapping scene, which looked really great, with the paper plane scene, reenacting what many guys would have to go through. Well, not that exactly, but you get what I mean.
9.5/10. Really amazing song. Pity they cannot promote it, but if these two bands ever go and do another collaboration, guess who will be willing to listen to another of their songs!!!!
VIXX recently made their comeback with their first repackaged mini album, Jekyll. This “nice boy” image this time around that the boys have gone for continues on from their Hyde days. For those who have forgotten or don’t know, Jekyll and Hyde are an infamous person. Yes, they are both 1 person. One who has a totally evil split personality kind of story, where one is evil (Hyde) and the other is nice (Jekyll). G.R.8.U (or Your Impressive) is a song that has achieved the boys more ground, as they have been ranking higher than ever with their new and original concept.
I am totally digging this song. I know I am not into that aegyo boy stuff, but seriously, this is the Summer 2013 song that I have been waiting for for quite some time now. It has a totally rocking instrumental and the lyrics are totally amazing. Not only that, but their chorus is really catchy and everything about the song is so great. The vocals are exceptionally powerful for this song, but it matches the feel of the song as well. Leo sang his heart out in this song hitting all those high notes at the end. Ravi has a really great rap as well, which I really think is the highlight of this song. Actually, since the band had come out, I have been more interested and keen to know more about the band. Witt he release of this song, I started watching shows that they appeared on and it is really something to point out that Leo is the most quietest In interview but on stage he is the power house. Hahaha….
The music video is definitely original. The music video, when we see it, is in reverse. Which means the group had to basically lip sync their own song in reverse while filming the music video. Like seriously, that requires a lot of talent and patient. Seriously, when I saw the teaser I was like “WTF?”, but when the music video came out, I realized what was happening. Was I the only person to both have thought about of reversing the teaser to hear the song. I love the music video and this band deserves all the awards. How many bands today do you see signing their songs backwards for the sake of their music video? None. I also love the lightness of this video. Compare it to Hyde, which was dark and creepy. This music video is light and fluffy. There is also much more color it this music video, I love the newspaper scene and the big dance scenes for this music video were amazing. To sum it up, I was mind blown with this music video. Really was.
The dance, believe or not, was choreographed by their leader, N. I really like the dance overall and loved how they incorporated a bit of Hyde in it. By far one of the best dances of the year I have to say.
To sum this WHOLE review up, I was really satisfied and enjoyed everything from the song to the dance. Best comeback for 2013? We just have to wait and see. But so far, I think so. I think I need to create a new category for the Best Of The Best 2013. 10/10.
VIXX recently made their comeback with Hyde, launching them into a much bigger fanbase and huge popularity. Hyde was released on the May the 20th (making this the long awaited review that has been forever to be typed up). Adding more to their gloomy, dark image which they had created for themselves with On and On, released back in March (Review Here). I thought they could not get any scarier, but they did. I remember, in the last review, I wrote that I was scared of them because of their contact lenses, now I am scared of their lips. Their black and bold. Hyde, is not one of your ordinary words that you would find in the 100 most common words list. So here is a quick and easy definition of Hyde. Hyde is a widely known fictional character which basically has the full name of Dr. Henry Jekyll or Edward Hyde. Why? Because of the split personality of the character, which we can see in both the lyrics and music video of the song.
Hyde is an amazing song. I love the creepy instrumental. It’s electrobeat makes the song a whole heap better but at the same time a whole heap creepier. The vocals are quite powerful in this song and the rap was very strong. The love the chorus. It was catchy, addictive and easy to follow. Love the bit after the chorus where they are all like “Can’t Control, Can’t Control”. It has reference to the fictional character that we mention above, (ie. they cannot control when they have their split personality appear). I really like how the song has that split personality feel to it as well. For example, when the singer sings “I love you”, the backing vocal replies with “No I hate you”, giving that even deeper meaning to the song. The lyrics are really something you guys should search for. So overall, love the song.
The music video is quite dark. Not as dark to complain about (cough-MBLAQ-cough). We can see that the guys at the start are all normal and stuff, loving their girlfriends as they should be. But as we approach the end of the video, the guys all turn into “Hyde” and became brutal to their female companion. To the extent, where the evil has gotten to their mind and decide, why not kill her? The video, itself also correspond, with the theme of the comeback, where the guy is struggling to either kill her or stop himself from killing her, by pulling their hand back when they start to turn on her (which can also be seen in the dance). I also like the addition of those scenes on nothing basically, like the snake and the skull. Adds that extra punch to the feel of the video. Just to pull your attention to the end of the video. The scenes where the wings pop out of nowhere on the back of the member’s back seem oddly familiar. I don’t know what video it looks like it is from. Hmmm…. (SHINee’s Ring Ding Dong)
The dance is okay. Not the best and not the most memorable. I like the idea of them struggling against their own body, in the chorus. I guess my most favourite part of the dance is the “Can’t Control. Can’t Control”.
7.5/10. Great song, dance and music video. I think the guys have settled for something very dominate and dark for future releases. Will always be anticipating which fictional being they will become next!
VIXX pre-released “Don’t Want To Be An Idol” ahead of their release of their third single. This song has a much different feel to their promotional track, and also has a total different feel from Rock Ur Body and Super Hero, released during their debut year. Out of all of their songs released since debut, and including all of the songs that have been released this year already, “Don’t Want To Be An Idol” is one of the most outstanding yet.
First of all, this song brings out all of their vocal talents. No rap is needed to make a good song, unless you are a hip-hop or rap group/artist. But beside that, I really enjoyed this song. The song was soft and mellow, and sounds really good. Most Korean songs, including the ones I like a pretty hard to follow at first, but after listening to this song once, I quite enjoyed it and actually felt the emotion in their vocals. Actually no artist is actually able to do that to me expect for Brown Eyed Girls, Adele and Owl City. I guess you can say that this song was not expected from VIXX at all. Really good.
9/10. This is a really good song from a seriously underrated group.
Another group making their comeback in January is VIXX. Debuting last year, they released Super Hero and Rock Ur Body which had more of a fun zest to the feel, while On & On is quite different, which is a much more darker and mature concept. One thing I must say: scary. I will tell you why later.
Anyway, the song at the start had this really mysterious sound to it. However, does anyone notice that the start sounds identical to “The Phantom Of The Opera”? Hmmm.. while expected something along the lines of the Phantom of the Opera, we are greeted by a song that sounds like werewolves, while the dance itself is vampire like. Ummm… Wait a minute… this all sounds familiar!!!! I really liked the rap and vocals of the song, pretty cool overall. The “I Need Therapy” part of the song did not fit in with the rest of the song, however, the guys seemed to pull it off fine. I also liked the start. It was quite original, but beside that, it was your classic KPOP song, just with a hint of mysteriousness.
As for the music video, I would’ve have been happy if the introduction was not part of the video. But it was, and the intro was exceptionally confusing and boring. So these lady guards spot a girl far away in need of rescue. So these guards let captives (who are VIXX) to save the girls, but at the same time blast them into space. After that, they become shirtless in the rocket which is transporting them. They have a very rough landing, and turns out they are dressed in suits, and then they dance. And then they save the girl, by dancing. Don’t understand. However, I did love the style of the video. I love the broken rocket ship which made it looked pretty good.
The live is pretty good. Their dance looks creepy, but at the same time still fits the concept quite well. I like that. The rapper and the rest of the band look scary as hell with all of the eyeliner and fake lenses that they wear in their eyes.
For this song, video + performance, I give it an 8/10. As for the amount of eyeliner in this music video and live, I give them a 9.99/10. Unfortunately, I heard they used just a bit less than Brown Eyed Girls in Abracadabra, so I cannot award that extra 0.1%.
