It’s Okay – BTOB

BTOB has returned to the stage with a Summer ballad. It’s Okay is their first release for 2015, since their Christmas special album which was released in December 2014. This new release is also their first to hit the number 1 spot on multiple music charts in South Korea. Sungjae, the youngest member of the group, has also been enjoying a large rise of popularity for his acting in many dramas in the past year.

The song is good. But I don’t feel it this time around. The ballad is very refreshing and has the summer feel to it. It is a pretty good ballad with great vocals and the rap blends in quite well into the song. The song actually reminds me of Second Confession that they released a while ago, just this song is a lot slower and not as aegyo. The song carries a lot of emotion and I think they pulled the song off quite well. But in terms of appeal, it lacks a lot. I don’t feel motivated to turn on my computer or phone to just listen to this song. I prefer songs from BTOB with the more dance beat or more a dance influenced song, if you understand what I mean. So this song is good, just I don’t think it is a song for BTOB to actively promote as their title track.

The music video is okay. The acting is quite exaggerated in this music video, but we were given the heads up to it. We see them struggle with normal lives. One of them doesn’t know how to propose to his girl, another is probably struggling with fees to study, while another is stuck doing jobs etc. So there is a lot of struggling with the characters. And I can relate to most of them with the struggles. However, Peniel’s one really takes the cake for me. He is doing his job as an ambulance officer. He gives CPR to the person, which might be weird since she is breathing. And then the main ambulance officer or Peniel’s supervisor runs over and be like “You idiot”. That I can understand. HOWEVER the main officer proceeds to wipe the blood off the girl with a freaking small cloth. If anything tells me that there is something wrong with this scene, it is most likely that. The lady was just in an accident. I’d give credit for Peniel going through CPR, but wiping blood away with just a small cloth does not do your job for you. Yeah… But it is an okay video. It fits in with the emotion of the song and matches with the Summer feel. And also that customer that ordered chicken. Great that you are angry about he lateness, but chucking the food on the floor really doesn’t do much, since you were hungry and ordered the chicken to eat. But throwing on the floor kind of means you are still hungry and probably have to wait longer for food.

As for the dance, was it needed? I feel like the group could have stood on stage and made the whole thing work quite well. I like their idea with the one microphone pole though.

Overall, it was a nice comeback, but I just don’t feel like it is a BTOB song. But oh well. 7/10.

The Winter’s Tale – BTOB

BTOB recently made an unexpected and sudden return to the stage to promote their special winter mini album. Though it was released at the end of 2014 (where 2014 was only a few days ago) in regards to the Christmas season, the song is still being promoted and has taken the boys to whole new levels debuting on charts at higher positions then they ever had done before. That being said, this (if you have not noticed) is the first review for 2015. Welcome to the new year guys!!!

This song is pretty pleasant to listen to. It is has soothing piano sounds and really fit in with the whole season of Christmas. That being said, it had a warming feeling to it. However, there were a few complaints with the song. The intro by Peniel, to me, was unneeded. I thought it really did not fit the actual song and at the same time sounded awkward and distant from the overall song. The rapping should have been kept to a minimum. I know that Minhyuk can sing, so I would rather have seen the rap shortened and have Ilhoon do it. Then we would get to see Minhyuk sing for a bit. But there were some good points in the song. The song’s chorus is pretty nice sounding and I loved the instrumental. Overall, an amazing song, just with some parts disappointing me.

The music video was a little boring to watch. To sum the video up in a few words, (for me) it is just a bunch of guys acting cute around a girl. Though the music video did make me smile, I don’t really know what to say about the music video. Part of me like it for its fun and light-hearted portrayal while the other half of me feels like yawning. Though there is one thing I can say: I hate music video that are just that small band in the middle. Those white space on the top and bottom to me is a waste of space. Though yes, it is made to look like a movie, it just looks cheap to me and unappealing.

There was one thing I disliked as well but I thought it would belong to the performance section. Them character onesies that they where in the video and on stage look absolutely awful. Not how the guys look in them, but rather how it bands the song with the music video and dance. I actually prefer the normal jackets that they are wearing. Though I think the onesies are cute, the onesies really look awkward on stage. Dance was pretty good as well.

Song was very Christmas-y. Music video and costumes could have been worked on a little more, but overall, this was a pretty good comeback knowing that they, only a month ago, was still promoting their single You’re So Fly. 6.4/10

End Of Year Charts 2014

Welcome to the end of the 2014 charts. This chart has every single song that was released from the 1st of January 2014 to the 1st of December. I left the nitty gritty stuff out (aka. the numbers I used for the ranking) and made sure that everything was fair. So that means for songs that were released towards the end of the year would have received some extra increment to make sure that they were levelled out with the songs released in January. Other numbers used included whether songs were on the YouTube Playlist of The Month and each song was re-reviewed in categories of “song, music video and dance”. Below are just some interesting facts that you may enjoy in regards to this chart.

  • The very first song released to be included on the charts are Rain’s 30 Sexy and La Song. The last song released before the cut off date was Infinite F’s Heartbeat.
  • T-Ara’s Sugar Free (2) was the only song throughout the whole chart to score the maximum of 40 for the song re-review.
  • VIXX is the first boy group to appear in the charts at 14th place with Eternity.
  • As touched on above, this year the charts are dominated by the girl groups, with 13 boy groups versus 37 girl groups (repeated groups not excluded).
  • Heavily promoted songs tend to rank higher than songs that were released as a single and not promoted.
  • The following artists achieved the next few positions after 50th place: SPEED, Crayon Pop, Z:EA, Zhou Mi (Super Junior), BTOB, Infinite, UKISS, AOA and Gain (Brown Eyed Girls)

Catch Up Review #8 – Teen Top, BTOB, VIXX, Boyfriend

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

These groups are seen as the next generation boy bands and are currently rising to be the next top boy groups in South Korea. And this review consist of 4 songs, let’s move along now.

Missing – Teen Top

To fans out there, I am going to apologise to you guys. This song was much a bore for me. It was not appealing. I just listened to it once and then forgot about it. The vocals were so so and the rapping was okay, however it was not as great as Teen Top’s last song Rocking. The music video was pretty dark. I have to give points for such an amazing set though, which enhanced the darkness. From what I can see, CAP and this girl used to go out, but then CAP got a little addicted to partying or something, which caused his girlfriend to break off. He then (and I only assume) takes his life. L.Joe is a friend of both (as per seen in flashbacks) and is deeply sadden by both the death of his friend but also sadden to see the girl sad. He helps her get back on their feet, however both cannot forget CAP. Fortunately enough, L.Joe and the girl realized that both are there for each other and bond. The dance was pretty cool, however it just felt empty. 4/10

Witch – Boyfriend

This song has a latin feel to it, which makes it sound pretty nice. The “Cause your body goes boom bara boom” is pretty catchy. The music video on the other hand… The band suits the dark theme (why haven’t they attempted this when they debuted?) but the acting in this is so horrible. Everything was exaggerated from what I saw.  That final fight scene, made the whole group look so pathetic. Moving away from the music video. The dance was phenomenal. The use of the curtains made the whole thing fresh and original. I was so amazed. And the curtains were not just in the background, they were used to cover up the people not dancing or singing. Just wow… 5/10 (most taken away because of the video, but the song is definitely one to check out.)

You’re So Fly – BTOB

This is a pretty catchy song. It just lacked the ability to be very memorable. I honestly expected something like Beep Beep, which had a more serious tone to it. Though, the vocals and rapping were okay, just they don’t yell out at me. The music video is protrayed in a humorous way, where the shop keeper tries to get the boys to recognise the beauty in the more “ugly” girls. And she does this by giving them coffee. Poor Sungjae though, only getting one drop and hence the love potion not working on him. Dance was also pretty cool. And I guess chairs are the new trend. 6/10

Error – VIXX

I think I am starting to become addicted with this band. Every title (note the word title) song that they released, I get strangely addicted to. However this song, really does not have that VIXX feel that we all know of. Though, the vocals are pretty good as per usual. The music video for this song tells a story of this dude (Hongbin) and his lover. The lover dies, and Hongbin decides to create a robot version of the lover, to save him from the pain. Everything works out, just the authorities come in and finds out that the lover robot is illegal. Hongbin saves her from the authorities and then take their lives to be together forever. Great acting from the characters though.  The dancing here was really cool, especially the ending where they pull the plugs out of their necks. 7/10

Ahhh.. finally. Done this review. The next review actually does not have a theme to it. Sadly. However, I can tell you that AOA, Hello Venus and Zhou Mi from Super Junior M will be reviewed. See you then!!!

Beep Beep – BTOB

BTOB is finally back with a brand new song. The last time they were on stage, they were promoting Thriller. But after a year of successful promotions, it seems like the band is going back into time, back to their WOW days. I find this song distinctively familiar to WOW for many reasons and it seems like their concept change has actually paid off. I smell awards for this band and they have never ranked as high as this before. The funny thing is, I actually wrote this review before. But my phone was being weird and it did not save, so here I am retyping out my review. Forever sad.

I really like the hip hop phase this group is going through. Well, it is more of a pop song in my point of view. But it definitely reminds me of  WOW, which has to be their best song in my point of view. This song also is rivalling that top position. The vocals in this song is really cool. And so is the rapping. The chorus is somewhat catchy, but as we get to the “Beep Beep Bang Bang” part, then that stays in my mind forever. Peniel actually gets solid Korean lines that he finally deserves. Sungjae and Eunkwang confuses me sometimes. Who is the main vocalist of this band? There is a bit that I don’t actually like that much. Compared to BTS with their latest song, Boy In Luv, BTOB does not do a good job of combining their pop song with that ballad bridge. BTS does it really well, but BTOB makes it quite lacking and out-of-place. Sungjae’s high pitch note was okay, but wow, was that even necessary in this song? Overall, with the odd complaint, the song is really good. Check it out!

As for the music video, wow, how long have we seen such a great setting? For freaking sake, they are driving in the middle of the road. OMG, G.Na and now this? Seriously Cube, teach your artists to properly drive a car. I know it is meant to look artistic, but how about Sungjae’s close-up and then panning to the road and houses? What does that do? There really is no plot to the video. And why should there be? Well, beside road rage and the parking fine. It is nice to see a video without much of a plot. I actually found some parts pretty funny. Such as the guys at the back trying to get the car in front to move. Not entirely the use of girls in the video. I guess they tried to get the male demographic then? Those small cars look really cute, but the guys make themselves look like really weird weirdos.

As for the dance, wow! I really like the dance. It is so easy (well, only for a single part), but really addictive. And I think you know which part we are all thinking about. “Beep Beep, Bang Bang” everyone!

8.5/10. Really well done. Loving the song, music video and dance. Perfecto!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM KPOPreviewed!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!!!

It is finally Christmas and I am excited! And the year is already up. Sadly though. However, shall we continue with a more different review this time around? But before that, I just would like to wish everyone who will read this post a Merry Christmas. Enjoy your time, with family, friends or anyone else. Be thankful and be safe. Let’s enjoy the final few days of 2013 and ready to party with 2014. Anyway, today, it is really more of an impromptu review. Not score will be given for these reviews. I have review Lonely Christmas by Crayon Pop and Miracle Of December by EXO. There are however four more Christmas songs that I want to review and today will be three song reviews in one! Shall we get started???

Christmas Song – United Cube

United Cube is back with a lovely slow Christmas song that showcases the groups under A Cube Entertainment and Cube Entertainment. The artists in this song include: Beast, 4Minute, APink, G.Na, Huh Gak, Roh Ji Hoon, BTOB and Oh Ye Ri. Wow that is a lot of artists. Also included is Kim Gi Ri, the comedian for Gag Concert. The song has this soft tune that reminds you of a warm Winter’s night, like Christmas Night. Though the song starts off really slow and it takes quite a while for it enter a more Christmas-like song, by the end, you are bound to remember those warm Christmas nights with your loved ones. I think the rap was handle really well in this song which is pretty good, considering how raps tend to ruin a good song. And the whole song, vocally, sounds amazing.

 Love Falls – Romantic J

Now we are getting into the more festive songs. This song may sound like a love song, which it is. I really love the jingle bell feel of the instrumental and how the vocals in this song are not hard hitting as powerful vocals. Though Jonghyun from CNBlue does not have as much lines as Juniel, the song still sounds amazing. His husky voice fits the tone of Juniel’s voice which makes the song have this beautiful duet. The song is quite addictive and sounds really good. I have been lipsyncing to this song since it came out. Though the music video may seem more of a romantic story, the song still carries the Xmas cheer. Yay! Also, this is a duo that I would love to hear more from.

Winter Propose – Jellyfish Entertainment

This song is the only song that is really close to those Christmas carols we here every year. Not exactly what I like, but it still does. It features all the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment including: VIXX, Seo In Guk, Sung Si Kyung, Park Hyo Shin and also a mysterious female singer (do I hear a singer debuting next year?). This song sounds amazing and really has that festive cheer to the song. It combines all of the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment and amazes me a lot. Though I was not much of a fan of their previous Christmas song and also their more experienced singers, this song gives you that warm feeling that makes you remember Christmas day and eve a lot.

Snow Candy – Starship Planet

The final song which gives off the happiest Christmas feeling of the year. It features Sistar, K.Will and Boyfriend and seems the most enjoyable song out there for memories of family and friends. Again, this song, along with the others vocally sounds amazing and the rap seemed to be handle really well by Bora and the Boyfriend rappers. Of course K.Will and Hyorin holds the main vocal part of this whole company venture, but with this song, I am going to let it slide. The music video also seems to be the most festive one out of the four. Pity that Dasom from Sistar was not a part of the filming, but probably have featured in the he song somewhere. Not sure where though.

Thank you for spending another year with me. Merry Christmas to all, wherever you are on this planet. Be happy and I will see you next time!!!!

Thriller – BTOB

BTOB is finally back with a new song and a much more mature and serious side. Their last comeback, Second Confession, was the aegyo, cutesy boy style. However this song, it seems the boys has taken the whole term of sexy and seduction to a whole new level. That was weird of me to say that. Not but seriously, which band comes out with a song and all of these teasers of abs that no girls have ever seen. I had to check that fact with one of my friends, and she confirms it. Hardly do BTOB fans get to see the guys abs or them shirtless. However, enough with eye candy, but do I find this song awesome and cool like it is said to be? Keep on reading below!!!!

The song is pretty good. However, if I was to compare it to he other songs that they released in the past, the song is still lacking. It sounds amazing, but does not have that flowing effect like 2nd Confession or Wow. This song sounds choppy and awkward in many parts. Truthfully, the band should go back to their Wow days where their songs were amazing and ranked high on the charts. Songs with this level of seriousness, to me, does not fit the band that well. The song itself mixes up rap and vocals, but to me, it sounds pretty messy. Moving along, the vocals and the raps on their own sounds pretty cool, but the raps did not sound as strong as in previous songs. The chorus is not technically the best, where the verses actually sound much better. It is a great song (digging the violin instrumental), but some parts were not as great.

The music video is pretty cool. As per usual, the music videos from Cube are not a let down. Adding to the “Thriller” feel, we get a dark feeling in the music video, which somewhat accompanies the song. Honestly, I feel the song is quite different to the music video altogether. In comparision between the two, I feel the song is too poppish for the video. You know? But I like the dark feeling that this video has, which leads to me second point. Those who agree that BTOB are copying VIXX because of the dark theme, you are clearly wrong. I actually remember a million bands before VIXX doing this type of music including Super Junior, MBLAQ, SHINee, Brown Eyed Girls etc. Just because one band is good at doing a style, it does not mean that others will copy them. It is like saying Girl’s Day, Orange Caramel, Secret and 4Minute are all copying SNSD because of Gee. Logical these is applicable. One thing that I am most concerned about: one green “thriller”. Not really that great, but it seems too ‘pop culture like” to be in the music video. We have a cemetery and then green thriller. We have a spider webs and skulls, turn around and you have the word thriller in slime font and green. Not the best addition to the music video.

Honestly, don’t get me started with the dance. I am really disappointed. The start seems awful and the hand position when they move about curing the chorus seems unoriginal. Really, you guys look like monkeys having trouble keeping your head up while moving.

5.5/10. Quite disappointed with this comeback. Go back to Wow or Second Confession. I don’t mind the aegyo phase of these boys anyway. Did you like the comeback? Comment below!

Second Confession – BTOB

BTOB is finally back with a brand new song, called Second Confession. My question is, what was their first confession? Yeah, that is me being lame. Yeah yeah yeah, I know that the second confession would mean that a girl which the song is addressed to, had rejected when the guy first confessed. Then the guy is now asking the girl to listen to his second confession. I know. I am not stupid. 😛

The song is quite cutesy than I expected. BTOB is a dance group with funky songs that have a good beat. This, however, was an u turn for their image. Did not expect at all. Yes, I was also quite disappointed. At first, I thought the song sounded weird. It did not appeal to me at all. After listening to it for a few times, I actually liked the song and really enjoyed the instrumental  Yes, maybe it is not the typical BTOB song that we all know, but at least we know they have guts to “experiment”. The vocals were pretty good. I was totally surprised when Sungjae dominated the chorus. Another thing I was also surprised about. Also, I thought BTOB only had one rapper. Now there are two. Mind-ception.

The music video is quite interesting. Like many other videos which I have reviewed recently, I felt they seemed bland and plain. There was nothing that got me to the edge of my seat for this video. There was nothing that I anticipated. I guess I was more occupied about how “fate” got that letter to the girl. But really I thought nothing of the video beside that. It was not good but at the same was not bad. Neutral feeling. What people need more in the world!

The dance fitted the beat of the song. Actually, until I watched the performance the first time around, I realized there was that mini dubstep sound in the song. Random as it is, it fitted the song. It was not that bad, but did not really kept me hanging.

6/10. Okay, I guess.

( I speak on behalf of all the fangirls. Cuteness overload for the Pyjama version of the music video. However, I felt it was random and sudden. I also don’t think the same way as the fangirls).

WOW – BTOB

A really good song from BTOB has been receiving my attention a lot lately. I was not technically a fan of their debut songs, and the other amount of songs that they had, but this one is quite different. I am not sure if this is more of a pop song than the other songs. I think these types of the songs really suit this band and I have to be honest, they have gone a long way. Though, I am still disappointed in some parts, I still like this song.

Well, the song is definitely different from their debut songs. They are more pop-ish nowadays. Not sure if it the seasons or just their direction they want to go in, but it suits them. I really loved the beat of the song and the vocals in this song. I quite like the start where the rapper of the group is like “B to be back, Be to change the game, Be to catch your swag” part. Though I hate the word swag, (quite recently though), this is quite a good part of the song. I quite like the chorus of the song, as it matched the song’s instrumental. The only thing I don’t like was the really high voice just before the chorus. Not really keen on guys auto-tune or actually naturally singing that high. Oh and also, did anyone catch the 4Minute reference? Your homework is to find that! HAHAHAHAHAHA….

The music video is also quite interesting. Not really the best, I have to say, but it is quite different. The dance is quite good, but the stroyline was quite weird. The guys evaporated from sght, making them vampires or something, but when the girl touches them, they evaporated. Disintegrate. But how the director decided to film these certain parts kind of make them look like the guys were desperate for the girl, so guys need more than a few touches, some guys just disappeared from sight at the sight of the girls. I am also think now, that the vampire theme does not really suit the tone of the song, it suits 4 Minute’s Volume Up more than this really jumpy song.

The dance for this song, is pretty cool, just something I would not dance to. Their costumes are great for the song on stage, and there really is nothing to complain about. Wait, how about fireworks? That would be cool.

8/10. The music video just lacked it. Beside that, everything else is pretty good.

Insane – BTOB

Song

The song fits the genre, everything is okay. I do like the violin in the song and the piano is fine. The vocals are pretty good as well, especially in the chorus. It is an interesting combination of violin and piano with a pop beat. The thing that kind of makes me confuse is the English at the end of the chorus. I quote: “You make me go insane. She give me so much pain. I won’t be back again”. This make no sense what so ever. If you take it literally, yeah it makes sense. But one moment the guy is talking to his girlfriend. The next moment he is discussing the mater with a friend. So it goes from one person to another. Which is kind of not a good idea, after you have said that you ex drives you insane.

Music Video

Ah. This music video is really good. There is one ting I have to mention though. At the end, the group goes and deicide to destroy items. The piano is burnt, the mirror is broken and a few books were kicked. Yeah, kicking books with not actually do much to yourself. As you see, breaking a mirror and burning a piano really does bring out the emotion in the person. Kicking books and ripping them apart is not my friend. Looks like you were desperate to destroy something, however books are not the ideal thing to release your anger on. I can rip a book here and still be happy. Breaking mirrors and a piano is a different story.

But beside that, the emotion in the song was perfectly portrayed in the video. (of course, I am excluding the book boy).

Live Performance

I found the dance pretty cool. I really like the formation of the group at the chorus and the violin re-enactment at the start. It was pretty good.

And The Rating?

8.3/10 is what I would rate the song. Pretty good.

Have Fun Watching. 😀 Troy.

Father – BTOB

Song

Now, even though they are a new band and it is great to know that they are releasing new singles, however I have one rant to make. Artists usually make a comeback with their actual single, do a follow up promotion track and  then maybe just a repackaged album/single. This band however has released 4 different songs. Are they crazy? Why does Cube not let them rest? This is a reason how bad the entertainment industry is. Well at least they are not promoting their latest song.

What I love about this song is that it is about our fathers, or actually parents in general. There are never any songs about our family, and what they actually mean to us. I have to say, our fathers are the most important men in the lives, while our mums are the most important ladies in our lives. They have a voice that is a lot like 2AM’s. I really like their voice in the whole song, maybe they should just do ballads, however they are also good at pop songs as well. There is just one thing we can all agree on: “This song is touching.

Music Video

There is nothing really to say, beside the fact that the music video involves close-ups and just a bunch of guys in a room, singing.

However I do like the many comments, especially on the first page. Not one person is being an anti. Not one person is complaining about the lack of something in the song or music video.

Also the pictures of each band members when they were younger with their father, was also nice to see, cause they add an extra bit of love in the song.

And The Rating?

9/10. A really touching song in my point of view.

Have Fun Watching. 😀 Troy.
