Delicious – Toheart (Woohyun & Key)

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/toheart_dance-800×450.jpg

As we all know, SM Entertainment recently took Woolim Entertainment under its wing to make themselves bigger. Hence a collaboration between the two companies was formed. Still don’t understand why they both had to join. But oh well. SHINee’s Key and Infinite’s Woohyun have come together as friends to form band mates in this special project group, named as Toheart. Still also don’t get the name. But joining two of the big groups in KPOP seems to be a good idea. Look at that profit flowing in. Hehehehehe… Well, at least they are not forced upon each other. They are best of friends who enjoy the company of each other (apparently they have never argued with each other before).

This song is okay. It is not a bad song nor is it a good song. It is just an okay song. There is nothing that special about it and honestly, it is once of those songs you listen to again and again, but will never get into it. First time I heard I was like “Chart topper right here”, but a few more times and I thought “this is really boring”. Yeah I said it. The song is really cheesy and the vocals were really meh in this song. I thought it was would be a really good collaboration, but it seems not to be. Iw as really excited when I heard the teasers, but this is a super let down. “Love is nutritious, love is delicious”. Hell, we are in no cooking class. Yeah, I also find this song really Key bias. It neglects Woohyun a lot. Well, I hear mostly Key and then a few Woohyun random spots, which to me is really disappointing, because last time I checked, Key was not “vocal” member of the group. But before I turn this into a criticising member session, I shall stop myself.

The music video was equally as boring. There is literally nothing captivating in this video. Usually, SM and Woolim have a music video that I would rave on and enjoy or disapprove, but I really cannot say anything about it, The boring-ness just made me speechless. I have watched the video. Well to precise, I forced myself to sit in front of a computer and watch the 6 minute video. Like who on earth, besides CCM, makes music videos longer than 5 minutes? I already have trouble sitting in a front of a computer for around 12 minutes. So why go for 6 minutes? And since it is a boring video the time I am viewing it is gonna decrease. Usually the sets would be cool, but seriously, a white back drop with fancy writing on it really does not cut out for it. Though, I did like that outdoor American style cafe dinner place, which looked awfully cool and also the parts where they are spinning those fire things. But beside all of that, no. Music video sucked.

The dance is okay. Not the best as well. But hey, together they looked pretty good. The use of the flowers and the proposing style seemed really cheesy to watch though. But anyway…

Yeah, well there is my ramble on how boring this comeback/debut is. Out of all seriousness, Tell Me Why was a much better song. 1/10.

Everybody – SHINee

Source: http://pop1gasa.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/ps13101000047.jpg

SHINee has finally returned with their first mini album of the year. After successful promotions of Dream Girl and Why So Serious?, the band has returned with a new modern concept, showcasing their skill and and cool choreography.  It is also the first promotions for Jonghyun, who only took part in the last week of promotions for Why So Serious. I would like to take some time to talk about something. Usually, SHINee does not promote 3 times in a year, but I think SMent is now scared that EXO would take over the company. To those who think it is not a big deal, I think SM released that despite it is great for rookie bands to become top and whatnot, bands that SM do care about and gain a lot of profit from (such as Super Junior, SNSD, SHINee, TVXQ and F(x)), SM may become like what JYP is at the moment. JYP is literally now dependant on 2PM for profits, earning 60% or something like that worth of profit for the company. Basically if that was to happen to SMent, it i would not only mean the downfall of the giant company, but also the possibility disbandment for the other groups, who basically “lived through their prime”. And that, my friends is the analysis of what I think SM is doing, that or they are just profit hungry people.

The song is not that great. I love the idea of dubstep and the “complextro” theme, but this song is really not that great as expected. Putting this song up against T-Ara’s Number 9, IU’s Red Shoes, Busker Busker’s Love, At First or even EXO’s Growl which is still growing strong at the moment, this song would probably come last. It is different to the usual pop, hip hop style songs that we hear. But I find the song not as strong. As many of you guys know, I tend to complain about the amount of lines that “visuals” and all of that get, for example Sistar where 70% of the song belongs to Hyorin, and rest of the song goes out to Dasom, Soyu and Bora. Here, it seems like most of focus is on Taemin. Both on stage and the vocals seems to be mostly Taemin. Now, I am sure that the main or lead vocals are Jonghyun and Onew, but Taemin just randomly came through and took over the song. But beside that, the song is pretty okay. Not sure about the “whubb, whubb” part of the song, but I guess they do. And the 10 high notes towards the end is pretty cool, but may be a little excessive.

As for the music video, the video is pretty okay. Not the best video out there, but it does its job. That masked dude at the start, that was kind of scary and it seems like the company is reusing the same wiring used for the microphone stands and the set of F(x)’s Electric Shock. Not sure about the chess pieces and a shirtless Taemin, but I think the music video is pretty cool. Honestly, the music video set seems to come out of Japan or something, I have never seen anything like this in KPOP that is that big or large. Again, not sure about the coloured lense that Taemin is wearing or Key’s long hair in this video.

Now, I know the dance was choreographed by an American, and hence there was this american feel to the dance.  It seems like the guys had fun at parts, but also was tired as hell at other parts, But the dance was amazing. I loved the end part where Onew is like spinning his arms like crazy. And also the start where they all get up, was pretty cool as well. Not entirely sure about the legs splitting, because last time Taemin did something like that, his pants ripped. Also, the guys look like those little army men toys, with their outfits on and at some parts of the dance, like that scene after the second chorus (1:51).

Really, don’t know what to give this song. I liked the dance, music video was standard, but the song did not stand out for me. I guess, I give a 6.5/10. But hey, thats my idea of the song. But what is your idea? What song do like better? Dream Girl? Why So Serious? Everybody? Or maybe another song?

Breaking News – SHINee

Source: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jZ4wNmyTDhs/UckJkpwGW7I/AAAAAAAATlU/mUdS349EqEw/s640/shinee+breaking+news+full+pv+screencap+2.PNG

SHINee has returned to Japan, after promoting their latest Korean album of Dream Girl and Why So Serious?. Their last Japanese single, from memory was fire, was released in February or March, if my memory served me right. This is their latest Japanese single, released on the June 26th and since has been ranking high in Japan. Breaking News is a song on their second album. Along with Breaking News, their past Japanese singles, including Sherlock, 1000 years…, Fire & Dazzling Girl, along with other new songs were released.

Wow, this is a rocking song from the band. I totally love this rock feeling from the boys. I was so impressed with Why So Serious and this song is quite similar in terms of genre, but has a totally different feel to it. The boys never seem to disappoint, and this song is exactly perfect. the vocals, the rap, the instrumental, the high notes. Wow. The vocals of this song very strong from Onew to Jonghyun to Taemin. Minho and Key has show very powerful and dominated raps, which sound superb. I think, and I am not sure, that the guys are talking about their new love as “breaking news”. If I was to continue from that point and discuss the meaning of the song, it sounds a lot like the forever alone guy just got a girlfriend. Yeah. I really like the slow parts before the chorus, and then that impact they punch through the music in the chorus. Its catchiest, and I think this is one of my most favourite JPOP songs by the band to date.

The music video does not live up to its standards that the song has created. But I love the feel of the video. It matches the song quite easily. I don’t know if it the quality of the video that I am watching but seriously, this video has that dull colour to it. Any video I have watched has the same dullness which I really don’t like. I also thought, maybe some flashing lights would be good, but there is nothing to give the video the extra punch which is really needed in the video. The song has it, but the video does not have it. I am not that troubled by what they are wearing, but it does not feel right. I really like the scene of their solo, where all the cameras are looking at them. I like what they did there, as they are using the title to the best of their abilities.

This dance, on the other hand, lives up to its standard. The dance is amazing and that is all what I am going to say. I don’t think I am in the right state of mind to comment on the dance. Awed by the group.

9.5/10. Despite the video, I think it is fair to give the group this score. Really great!

Trap – Henry (Super Junior M) ft. Kyuhyun (Super Junior) & Taemin (SHINee)

Source: http://smindotown.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/henrylau2.jpg

Henry was recently unveiled as the newest solo artist of SM Entertainment, releasing his first mini album on June the 7th of 2013. SM Entertainment released some “teaser” images that seem quite abnormal. A body full of tattoos, to me, turns me away from people. Literally, if I were to see someone on the streets, I would literally turn away and walk. But I hardly doubt anyone would walk around shirtless with colourful tattoos on the streets, not my neighbourhood though. The whole idea of Henry having a solo debut is being solo. However SM Entertainment brings in Taemin and Kyuhyun and then dominates the second half of the song. Disappointment.

This song is much better than Wolf. I am glad that this song came back, because I don’t think I have ever been pleased with an SM song (since the start of the year) but SM has had a long run of unlikeable songs. I love the piano feel of the song, which makes it unique and different to other songs with that electronic beat that I have been reviewing, like Want U Back (Review Here) by 100%. It gives off that dramatic feel to the song, which is really great. I never knew Henry can vocalise like that. His voice can actually hit pretty high notes and I love how he changes the tone of his voice, to give off that nice , polished feel of the song. Overall, I liked Kyuhyun’s addition to the song, which makes it more profession. I am not as impressed with Taemin’s part, but it still fits in with the song. However, the featuring artist does make the song feel a bit choppy and whatnot. But I am more impressed with this song than EXO’s Wolf (Review Here), so YAY!!!

The music video is quite confusing. However, aside from that this is the first time where the box set of the music video made sense with the title of the song. A guy, going insane, trapped in a room with no roof with only a piano. He was trapped by this evil girlfriend and towards the end after making friends with a bunch of dancers and two other singers, he managed to find his way out of the room. In style, the first thing he does after escaping, was drive a luxury car and buy a suit. Great, you’re halfway there to escaping, but at least you are getting as far away as possible. However, word of advice, use the door more next time or grab that hair or an object in the room and mash open the window. You did not have to stay in that room for that long. Unless, the girlfriend only trapped him for less than a day. In other words, drama queen.

The dance i pretty cool. I never thought stepping on a piano will be that good looking. Also, like the use of handkerchiefs in the dance. Adds more masculinity to the video, I think. Just don’t dance shirtless, with tattoos over your body. You don’t look cool or great.

7.5/10. Henry’s debut is daebak (Awesome in Korean). Woot!

Why So Serious? – SHINee (minus Jonghyun)

Source: http://cdn.popdust.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Shinee-Why-So-Serious-Feature.jpg

SM Entertainment had a few choices here. Obviously, they chose the worst one of all. Jonghyun recently was involved in an accident, where his nose somehow got injured. It was announced that he would not be able to perform and promote this song with them. Since SHINee had promised that they will make a comeback, they did. At least, someone from SM can keep their promise (Referring to EXO here). But, like some people, I am not impressed with the song as Dream Girl (Review Here!!!). It is a great song, but Taemin, you are just…. Taemin is the dancer of the group. But WHY THE HELL did he GET PROMOTED TO MAIN VOCALIST???? Onew, Minho and Kay got around 40% of the song. Taemin, himself, got around 60% of the song. Disappointment there. At first I thought Onew would get more lines or Minho would have more singing lines. Instead, Minho actually seemed to get less lines in this song compared to Dream Girl. I don’t hate Taemin. I think his voice is good. But I thought at least  the four can split the song up into equal parts. Did not happen at all.

Beside that, the song is quite good. I like the new rock fresh theme. It seemed hardcore. But the use of the high note at the very start did not seem right at all. I thought the bridge of the song was quite lacking and that the start of the song was too powerful. Seems like they got confused. Go home, high note. You’re drunk. But seriously guys. I think this is the best song ever by SHINee. The fresh feel is something that I don’t see many KPOP artists doing. I love the chorus. It is so catchy and sounds really good. The rap also sounded very good. Minho, Key and… Taemin sound pretty good. Taeman seems to have improved greatly with his vocals, along with Key. I would not mind if SHINee (all five members) kept doing rock.

The music video is quite okay. The darkness of the video fitted the the rock beat of the song. The “boxes” that they are in look quite unique. If only other SM artists had good boxes to sing in. I also quite like the PLOT in this video. Really it is just a girl who is fooled by her imagination, thinking she is dating SHINee. When the police come though, SHINee acts all scared. But it turns out the girl was lonely. Forever alone. I had to. I am sorry. I like the contrast between the dark feel and the white room. Quite different in the KPOP world.

The dance to was really cool. Zombies, sleeping dead people and the mini jump. Pretty cool.

8/10. And that is me, excluding my little rant on top.

Dream Girl – SHINee

Source: http://images.kpopstarz.com/data/images/full/2013/02/20/53814-shinee-dream-girl-choreo-stand-mics.jpg

SHINee is finally back with another rocking song. If you want something like Lucifer or Sherlock, this is not the song for you. But something along the line of Replay or Juliet, then this is for you. I am just thinking, if you are a dedicated KPOP fan, you probably will agree with me that this has to be the best music video ever from SM Ent. Though it is still in a box, it is much more than the box, odd lighting, horrible clothing and loads of close ups. Agreed? Read on.

Dream Girl is a really funky, technological song that is kind of the same level as Sherlock. Dream Girl is much a different compared to the past songs, maybe just due to the fact that technology has eaten up the song and threw up (which is a good thing). The vocals in this song are pretty cool. Minho, who is the rapper, actually has more than one line to sing in this song. Amazing. Not only that, but the chorus is pretty catchy. I really liked the song. Overall, this is one of the best songs for me, by SHINee and probably one of my favourite songs by a SM artist.  I find this song matches SHINee very well. The use of the electro beat is mushed up and crazy like Girls Generations’ I Got A Boy.  The song is about SHINee’s Dream girl and what they expect to be the dream girl, which is an interesting concept to sing about. Overall, a cool song.

The music video is amazing. Though there are some things that I am not fond of in the video -cough-fashion-cough-cough. Got a bad cold. Sorry. The set for this song is amazing. Like that triangle lighting at the back is pretty cool. Along with the stuffed room and the built in trampoline in the wall. Also the amazing holes that the members can climb through at any time (?). Actually, to me the most amazing part of the video is that this is a good quality music video from SM ent. It is not Mr. Simple or The Boys style. It is a music video that I would expect from another company for another band. Really good, just fix up on the really nerdy looking clothing. Those floral jackets are not in season at the moment.

The dance is awesome. To me, this song is accident prone. Even the comeback stage at MCountdown did not go tot plan. Minho’s microphone stand broke, and the group just went along with it, even though it was a potential hazard. Goes to show how professional they are at their game. As for the dance, it is pretty low for SHINee, but hey it still does look good and does have their style within it. I am just waiting for the day the microphone stand just rolls off the foot or slips from the hand.

9/10. Woah, an excellent song that is really up there.

1000 Years, Always By Your Side – SHINee

Source: https://kpopreviewed.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/shinee1000yearsalwaysbyyoursidemvscreencap12.jpg?w=300

SHINee is finally back in Japan after releasing a song in October. However, this time around, they have gone for a much softer song and is nothing like Dazzling Girl. This song hit my heart the most, and I loved the music video a lot. They always kind of surprised me this time around, with a song that I was not expecting.

The song is a really good ballad, that caught me by surprised. I thought, from the title, that it would a song for their fans or for a girl like Dazzling Girl. It is a really good ballad which really does bring out their voices, however I found that the song was Jonghyun dominated rather than the other members. At first, I thought that there would be no rap in the song when I first heard it at the start, however I was completely wrong. They included a subtle rap to the song, which fits the feel of the song really well. If anything was to be changed, give Taemin, Onew, Key and Minho or lines please. I really do think the song is definitely Jonghyun dominated.

The music video is one of the best videos which I have ever seen. This comes up along with Sunny Hill’s Midnight Circus, The Grasshopper Song, Is the White Horse Coming? and Brown Eyed Girl’s Cleansing Cream and Sixth Sense. There is nothing in this video that is wrong or confusing. However, I am here to stuff up your thoughts, as normal, so here is my take on the music video. At the start we see the SHINee guys wearing full on black clothing and standing at a bus stop with some old people. We are then taken to the hospital, to see a family, about to be broken up, as the son is sick and I am assuming that the mother and father are about to break up. However, this draws the family closer. The father is contacted by SHINee who tell him that there is a way to make your son happy again, which is basically open a box of balloons up. He listens to them and opens the box, however knowing that there are consequences , he is tragically killed in a fire at a circus. We then see him boarding the bus, which means the bus is like a gateway to Heaven. Such a sad music video.

I don’t think a live performance of this song exist. Or even if there is a dance. Let’s not.

8.5/10. Really good.

Dazzling Girl – SHINee

Source: http://www.koreaboo.com/forum/uploads/bc0b52746e590cda2a9ac6dd340eac6f.png

Dazzling Girl is the first single that is not a Korean song by SHINee, and released in early October. Now, they are preparing another song for December, so watch this space! Seriously, after hearing songs that were first released in Korean, I am quite happy to hear something that is not Korean at all. Dazzling Girl is a song that describes how a girl can be dazzling, which is really the song title. Yeah, anyway….

The song is quite addictive and really fresh. It is something that is different from their previous singles and really is not that serious in a way. The song is has a really good instrumental  that I think enhances the song to a whole new level. The chorus is really catchy and the mini English phrases that were added in were done quite well, expect for “Boom Boom Pow”. There really is nothing that I wish to complain about the song expect for the lyrics. The English translation seem a bit Cliché to me. “If I don’t see you it’s a Rainy Day” sounds like it just came out of the Notebook or some other really romantic movie/story. “Suddenly, like a rainbow, you were smiling” also kind of sounds like that, but to me a rainbow frowns, because its shape is the upside down smile. Get it? No? Just referring the colours? I see.

The music video really was quite boring. The members all work together to create and perfect the model who is absolutely pretty. She looks like my old tutor’s receptionist. Yeah. They are all in charge of getting the perfect picture of her, her make-up, the setting in which the picture was to be taken, the clothing etc. The fact that all the members find the girl pretty is kind of disturbing, but hey, Replay may happen. They also dance in a room full of mirrors and alongside that just a normal white room. Beside that, there is nothing much to say. Oh, their seriousness in past music videos have disappeared, especially Jonghyun. They are all happy and cheerful in this one.

The dance is pretty cool. I don’t think it would be as memorable as Sherlock’s dance. But still pretty cool.

I would give this a 7/10.

Have Fun Watching :D. Troy

Next Review: I Don’t Need A Man – Miss A

Sherlock – SHINee (Jap. Ver.)

If you are smart, I have just recopied everything here from the Korean Version of the song. So yeah. Score still as it is.

Song

What a really cool song. It really lives up to its stand as a really good comeback song. It is really funky and really modern. This by far is the best SHINee song ever. This is the first song by SHINee which I enjoyed hearing in Korean. I really do prefer SHINee singing Japanese, but this song may change my theory. Everyone has great vocals in this song. Minho and Key’s rap in the song is so awesome and Jonghyun, Onew and Taemin’s vocals is the best song. I really think they guys have gone a long way since their debut. The chorus is really the best part of the song. “Oh I’m Curious, Yeah. Oh, I’m Curious yeah, yeah…~”. That is literally stuck in my head. Definitely a song to listen to.

Music Video

MUST GET SOMETHING OFF MY CHEST: TAEMIN CUT YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that is off my chest, I can now continue.  Wow, A SM Ent. video with a plot? What is going on? This plot is actually fool-proof so not many people can point it flaws. However I really have to say something. That person who craved the statue must have been drunk or something when they did that. Why? That statue does not look anything what so ever like Jessica. I believe that was an insult to Jessica’s beauty. (Jessica looks really beautiful in this music video. LOL).

There is nothing I can pick beside that from the video. Except for how obvious that secret room is on the outside because of the two different shades on the walls and that Taemin’s hair gets in the way when he dance. A nice music video better than Mr. Simple, A-Cha, Hello etc.

Live Performance

I really love the dance for this song. Actually, this was the first song which I tried dancing to in public and trying to copy it. I really love the start, It is very creative. Especially the slow motion walking. Boy, That must have been the most creative dance move there. I really love the chorus where they are like doing something similar to an Irish dance or something. (No offence to anyone Irish out there, if I got the nationality wrong.) I also love the very start and ending of the song with the position of their hand. Like a detective.

And The Rating?

BEST COMEBACK EVER. 9.5/10. (I’m sorry, blame the teasers.).

Have Fun Watching. Troy :D

Live Performance:

There is none. I think. I was sure there was.

Music Video:

Stranger – SHINee

Song

Okay, I must confess. I hated this song at first. I think I was more pre-occupied with the fact that Sherlock was Note and Clue combined. Yeah, I at first, did not like the feel of the song. It seemed very distant from thier toher songs like Hello, Ring Dong Ding, Lucifer, Sherlock.  Did not like the start at all because it was so sudden.

But then again, the song started to grow on me bit by bit. But I just can’t sit around listening to the song. My attention would shift from the song to another thing like homework or to finding another song. The vocals are pretty good in this song though and so are the raps. Well, I must say, this is song is much better than Hello.

Live Performance

Okay, I must admit. They are wearing clothing from Lucifer and Ring Dong Ding. Back to this style. I approve. It was pretty epic I must say the performance. The dance was pretty epic. Just I’ll chose Sherlock over this song anyday.

And The Rating?

Yeah, as I said before, Sherlock any day. 7/10.

Sherlock (Note & Clue) – SHINee

Hello – SHINee

Song

Oh Boy. This is a really good song. I love how the song is mashed up at the end. The rap and vocalist sings /raps at the same time. Actually to be right, SHINee is the only Kpop band that I know does this. People may think that this part was rushed to quickly end the song but I quite like this. Not bad. Sad that Minho actually gets a small part in the song. The chorus is quite catchy. “Hello, Hello” accompanied with the dance moves is very catchy.

Music Video

Oh boy. I hate this music video. They are all staring lovingly with flowers, rings, cake & even hand painted a doll for this girl. Now this is really nice of them, but why do we not see a picture of this girl. Now I have not checked out the lyrics of song as of yet but I am assuming they don’t answer this question. Who are they waiting for? The same girl from Replay? I don’t get this but SHINee kind of like the 5 boys 1 girl relationship thing. Juliette (Jap Ver.), Replay & now Hello? What is going on?

Live Performance

The dance (as I said above) is quite catchy. However I have a great hatred of full colour suits, especially red. I don’t mind normal suits that are grey, but seriously red is too far man.

And The Rating?

Catchy song, catchy dance, not so catchy music video. 5/10. [NOTE: Previously, I have given this a 4/10. To be fair, I have bumped this song up to a 5/10. 4 is kind of harsh don’t you think?]

Have Fun Watching. Troy 😀
