Shake It – Sistar

Sistar has returned. The digital queens are officially dropped their new mini album back in June with Shake Their last comeback was around a year ago with I Swear and Touch My Body.

I don’t know why some people are always having a go at Sistar when they do these Summer concepts.  Actually it is girl groups in general. And I think their perspective on the summer and sexy concept clouds their enjoyment and distract them from the song. I honestly thought this was an amazing song. The song totally feels like a summer song and does a much better job at it than what Touch My Body does. It is really addictive and super catchy. In other words, it is currently my jam and my go to song at this very moment. The lines were more evenly distributed this time around, which makes me happy. I just enjoyed the song and really did not felt that the song was lacking in any area whatsoever.

This video was creepy. Yeah, feel sorry for that Noel guy. He is popular, but does he have to play the creepy roles in all music videos. First BESTie’s Excuse Me and now this Sistar video. As for the teacher, he looks very scary. I like the little comic bubbles that pop up at certain times of the video. I thought they added a nice touch to the video and actually added to the comical feel of the video for me. I was surprised with the lack of butt close-ups. I expected a lot more, but the video only had 20% ass. I have to say, Sistar has really nice bodies. They looked very hot and sexy in this video. Which means the video did its job correctly. Finally, Soyu’s boobs. I think I covered the main bits… Yeah… That was meant to be a terrible pun, somewhat relevant to the video.

As for the dance, there is a lot of butt shaking. But yeah, the song repetitively says “Shake It”. What else can they shake? Honestly, if they were shaking their head, arms or legs, the video would receive no attention. The ass and boobs (but there wasn’t any of the latter) did their job in the video. So essentially to those attacking Sistar for their concepts, you should really start seeing what actually works in the world and what doesn’t. But I am 100% that they did not overdo it in this dance and I am personally thankful for that. That or I be replaying the music video  for quite some time.

Overall, I feel like this is one of their best comebacks in a long time. They honestly did a wonderful job. 9.5/10

End Of Year Charts 2014

Welcome to the end of the 2014 charts. This chart has every single song that was released from the 1st of January 2014 to the 1st of December. I left the nitty gritty stuff out (aka. the numbers I used for the ranking) and made sure that everything was fair. So that means for songs that were released towards the end of the year would have received some extra increment to make sure that they were levelled out with the songs released in January. Other numbers used included whether songs were on the YouTube Playlist of The Month and each song was re-reviewed in categories of “song, music video and dance”. Below are just some interesting facts that you may enjoy in regards to this chart.

  • The very first song released to be included on the charts are Rain’s 30 Sexy and La Song. The last song released before the cut off date was Infinite F’s Heartbeat.
  • T-Ara’s Sugar Free (2) was the only song throughout the whole chart to score the maximum of 40 for the song re-review.
  • VIXX is the first boy group to appear in the charts at 14th place with Eternity.
  • As touched on above, this year the charts are dominated by the girl groups, with 13 boy groups versus 37 girl groups (repeated groups not excluded).
  • Heavily promoted songs tend to rank higher than songs that were released as a single and not promoted.
  • The following artists achieved the next few positions after 50th place: SPEED, Crayon Pop, Z:EA, Zhou Mi (Super Junior), BTOB, Infinite, UKISS, AOA and Gain (Brown Eyed Girls)

Erase – Joo Young & Hyorin (Sistar)

Starship Entertainment, this year, has released various collaboration between their actual company and a smaller company that they own, known as Starship X. Such collaborations include Soyou and JungGiGo’s Some, Hyorin and Mad Clown’s Without You and now the newest member of the entertainment company’s family, Joo Young and Hyorin with Erase.

This song channels the RnB feels that we don’t really find usually in KPOP. Though, Starship X is more focused on the hip hop, I find this style to just be a normal RnB song that I grew up with. Before sex, money and drugs entered the American industry, this was the type of song that I grew up with and this is the type of songs that I am going to miss. Their vocals are really good. Their vocals seem to go hand in hand. I won’t say this song is catchy or addictive, but I enjoyed listening to it. However, there is this thing with the chorus that is making it get stuck in my head. The song talked about getting rid of memories of each other. Overall, I liked the song.

The music video is pretty interesting and actually has a pretty solid plot line to it. So the run down of this is: the two have broken up and have gone their separate ways. They try to erase memories so they can move on to another person and form a new relationship. Such as illustrated by the scene where Hyorin and the bartender flirt (or just share a laugh). However, the actual ex partner  turns up and sits on the opposite end, and both end up remembering the past. The second Hyorin comes in to represent the past and past Hyorin sits next to Joo Young. Then the video ends. That by far is really smart and really pulled me in. The darkness of the video also channels the RnB feels, but also the darkness of breaking up.

The dance is okay. Pretty “sexy” in Korean terms. Especially, the part where Hyorin starts to rub Joo Young’s thighs. And where she also rubs his lips.

Overall, this is a pretty good debut/comeback.  Of course it was a hit, because all of these collaborations within Starship are becoming widely popular and I guess we just have to wait to see which singers will be coming together for the next Starship collaboration. 8.1/10

Catch Up Review #3 -T-Ara, Sistar, SNSD-TAETISEO

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Welcome back to part 3 of these catch up reviews… Today’s theme is girl groups!!!! So many girl groups came back while I was away and there are so many songs that must be reviewed. It is going to be a long few weeks.

Sugar Free – T-Ara

The first ever Korean group attempting the EDM genre and I think it was a smashing hit. Yes, I said smashing. You have a problem? I liked everything about this song. The vocals were nice and the song was really catchy. Any time I need a song to get my blood rushing, especially exercising, I basically turn to this song because it makes really want to work out to the beat of the song. The instrumental also became my ringtone. The music video fitted the electronic feel that the song has and I think it was a great video. Just, maybe they went a little overboard regarding the flashing lights. I also like the choreography. It is pretty simple and pretty addictive. All that sugar sprinkling everywhere. 10/10

I Swear – Sistar

This song is not the best song on this list, but it sounded a lot better than Touch My Body. That said, the song was your average KPOP song. There is nothing flashy about this and there really isn’t much once again. Though, now there is another member getting blocked out. Bora, along with Dasom gets only one part. Disappointing sometimes. The music video came a little under fire due their similarities with Red Light by Tiesto.Be the judge for yourself and check both music video’s outThe dance is pretty average as well. A lot of turning, but it suited the song and the actual feel of the song, as it gave off that “end of summer” feel to it.  6/10

Holler – SNSD TaeTiSeo

Opposite end of the spectrum now. SNSD TaeTiSeo made their anticipated return. Many people liked their comeback. I sadly did not. I was very disappointed with the song. it was bland and not that appealing. I tried my best to get into it, just really did not sit well with me. The song to me was a lot like an average KPOP song. Not that grand or anything that I expect from a billion dollar company (I might be wrong with my figures). As for the music video, I watched it once. The start of it was interesting and the rest, long forgotten memory. If anything that basically proved how boring it was. The dance was not that memorable. I pretty much prefered Adrenaline over this song. Adrenaline was a much better song. 0/10

Wow, I am so bummed out from writing that. Just came home from dinner and I am so tired. Hahaha.. Next review theme is: BIG name boy groups!!!! See you next time…

Touch My Body – Sistar

Sistar has finally returned after a year and 2 months disappearance from promotions. Last time they were on stage, they were promoting Give It To Me, which was a very successful song for the girls. That was back in June 2013. Since then, Dasom has been acting in a show called Melody Of Love (which I actually watched and cringe when they get surprised), Hyorin released her first solo album, One Way Love back In November. Member Bora has been all over variety shows and also got herself an acting gig, being the host for the Music Bank show on Fridays. Lastly, member Soyu has been hitting the top of the charts with her hit song collaboration with JungGiGo for Some, which was a really successful song that was loved by everyone and also Mad Clown and Soyu’s Stupid In Love. As you can see, each member is very successful and quite busy. And that is basically the run down of the Sistar events that happened since Give It To Me. Now it is Touch My Body.

Touch My Body is not technically my cup of tea. It is an okay song, just it is really repetitive and that really drags out the song and makes it sound so boring to listen to. Touch My Body is like repeated 23675260 times or in other words, those three words dominated the song. It is catchy, just it is not as memorable as their other songs in the past. Though, I do somewhat like it for its Summer feel and the brightness of the song. Though, I would love it if it didn’t repeat “Touch My Body” excessive amounts of the time. I feel like their company and the song writers are finally listening to the fans who want more lines for the members. Dasom has been receiving more lines, though I think Soyu has much less. And I think more a longer rap is needed to make the song more even for Bora. Hyorin does not sound as great as before though, I think this song limits the girls ability. The instrumental sounds pretty good, with the saxophone like sound and modern beat to it.

The music video is quite boring to watch. I really love the bright colours, just really after watching it once for me, it felt so boring and artificial. You know what could have been better, if they went outside for this music video. It is a freaking Summer video for summer perfect for an outside video, not a artificial set that is made out of a thin layer of cardboard. There are a few things that I liked in the video and there are a few things that I just find really boring and uncreative. Let’s start with the latter. Disliked what they were wearing, when they dance that is. Like are they running out of stuff to wear in Korea? Secondly, the people who watch the video. Like seriously guys, calling this the sexy concept. Must I link you the girl group that is taking the sexy concept, dropping the y an calling it the sex concept? Thirdly, the little party scene. It looks so repetitive. We have see this loads of times in a lot of boy group’s video and quite a lot of times in videos for girl groups as well. But let’s move onto what I like. I diamond swing looks pretty cool. I would not mind getting on that swing. I cute speech bubbles that appears are an amazing addition to the video. And even though I despise of the set, I like the mini island they created for themselves.

The dance is kind of …, just not one that I would expect to win the award for best choreography. The chorus twerking within one second dance looks really bad and the dance they have right after the chorus is also quite bad. I have to be honest. A pretty bad dance and I will be the one raising questions if they win best dance performance again.

This song and comeback was not for me. I like Ok Go much more that this song to be honest. 2/10

Mad Clown ft. Hyorin (Sistar)

Source: http://modernseoul.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/mad-clown-without-you-jo-min-ho-hedgehog.jpg

Mad Clown, after his hit song Stupid In Love, has finally returned with a new song. Last time he enlisted the help of the Soyu from Sistar for his debut song, this time he asked for Hyorin from the same band. And the song seems to be very popular as it has won an award already making a song that will top charts. Also, I wish to say a few things about the recent ferry accident in South Korea. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones in this horrible incident and my thoughts and prayers goes out to those who are still missing. I am thankful that there were survivors and that they will fully heal from the scars that they have obtained from an accident that basically stopped the nation and the rest of the world. And to those ignorant KPOP fans and other people in the world, screw you. You are not a fan if you have not heart to care for the others.

This song is a pretty cool song. I really liked his debut single, Stupid In Love, mainly because you can tell the rap has been thought out properly and on top of that, he was really passionately. To me, this time he took the rapping down a notch to fit the emotional vocals of Hyorin and meaning of the song. His rapping has these really good rnb sound that I actually like. The rapping at the start does actually build up to the chorus, however I really like it how they drop the final seconds so the instrumental builds up the rest, letting the song flow much better. Another thing to talk about, Hyorin is not the main star of this song. She is getting no publicity for this song, whereas Soyu got a lot of love from Stupid In Love. Her vocals don’t get in the way of the rapping and sound pretty good. There is nothing to show Hyorin off, which is a good move by the management. Though the ending is where I am going to complain about and this only applies to the live performances. The rapping and vocals at the end sound pretty good, but it seems more like a hot mess to me. In the song, it is not there, however in the live performances it is, so I a little confused with it. But overall a pretty good song.

The music video is shot in a black and white monotone kind of setting. There is nothing flashy or loud in this music video, which places emphasis on the plot and vocals in the song. How I understood the music video may have been a little different to the rest of you guys. Mainly cause I am not that great at connecting various pieces of information together. But we have a couple, where the girl left. The guy feels like he is unable to live without the girl, so he decides to occupy with himself, which ended up failing. He looks into a mirror, he tries to draw something, but it all reminds him of his past. So he ended up breaking everything so he can forget everything, even the girl, who returns at the end of the video, to find a pretty trashed up placed and also that her boyfriend or ex boyfriend had left. Pretty good video I have to say. Plot was pretty solid and I think that the song fitted the feeling and level of emotion in the video.

Really good song and music video. 7.5/10

Some – Soyu (Sistar) & JungGiGo

Source: http://www.koogle.tv/static/media/uploads/news/020714-soyu-junggigo-some-01.jpeg

Soyu is back with a brand new collaboration on stage with another singer in her on label’s sub label. Yes, I hope this will be a thing that Soyu will continue doing on stage from now on. She is basically now called the “Charts Queen” or something because both of her songs which she had duet in last year (Stupid In Love) and now this song which literally took over Korea. Like wow. But we must not forget that this is Soyu and JungGiGo. Did a little research and turns out this guy debuted back in 2002 I think and has a lot of fans. But now that he signed with a major label, he gets to showcase his singing skills. Both two are match made in Heaven (I think I said the same thing for Mad Clown as well).

This song is freaking amazing. Last time it was vocals and raps. Now it is just vocals and the smoothness of the both Soyu and JungGiGo’s voice in this song is amazing. The RnB sound in this song suits him so well and Soyu accompanies the song quite well as well. I entirely in love with the chorus. To me it sounds like one syllable getting pushed from one side to another at the very start of the chorus. The instrumental is sweet as and sounds romantic. Like appropriate for yesterday! The rapping was okay for the song, but the rapper did not suit the song. Maybe Mad Clown should step in, but his voice sounds a little too serious. And for your information, the rapper is LilBoy from Geeks. Honestly, I love this song at the moment and have been replaying it each time my headphones are in. I guess it won’t be as catchy as other songs, but I found myself listening to the song again and again for quite some time.

The music video shows two people, which we will name them as Baro and Dasom (for no apparent reason). Baro is a pilot who is never home, whereas Dasom is always on home. Now, they have a crush on each other and I guess they know each other as well. Once Baro comes back, it seems he is waiting for his friend’s calls or text messages and at the same time Dasom expects her friend’s text message as well. Until the guy (yay!) decides to text first and I think they arrange an outing with each other. And while the girl is preparing for their date, the guy falls asleep on the bus and makes a fool out of himself, causing him to be embarrassed. Or more like frustrated. I don’t know what happened next, but both become quite upset. Then Dasom takes it out on her bear, which turns into a live white teddy bear, which usually I think I would hug, but she just decides to WWE the bear and hurt it. Poor bear. But then the couple remember that they should be somewhere and go looking for each other. Baro runs into the bear who wants revenge on who ever caused his pain and decides to attack Baro. Yeah, that failed. And then the pair meet up. And the end. Pretty funny video if you ask me. Baro being a pilot and an oversize living teddy bear is pretty interesting. But it is a great music video.

10/10. Such a romantic duet with a funny video. What more can you ask for? Still waiting for Mad Clown’s second song, JungGiGo’s second song and Soyu’s next collaboration!

‘End Of Year Music Festivals’ Favourite Performances

Woah, 2013 is over (Soz, a tad late) and each year KPOP fans always end up looking forward to the end of year music festivals. These “festivals” are held on the final days of the year by the 3 major boradcasting companies of South Korea (ie. KBS, SBS, MBC). It is a stage where the artists who are active during the year can come together and celebrate by putting on some music and performing different stages from the ones that they had promoted during the year. So this means there are many different collaborations between artists or remix stages which would have fans screaming for. Because there happens to be little songs to review at this time of the year (end of Jan, don’t ask why), I thought I do this and release it in time for the Vietnamese (Or Chinese) New Year!!!!!

KBS Gayo Daechukje

  • Honestly, I was not satisfied with any of the collabs. They seem to be a last minute thing which made the show rather messy. They had good songs, but Iw as not satisfied with the way they were presented.
  • Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar was a good stage. The start got everyone hyped up and when the song actually started, boy was the screams loud! It was rather fresh and different stage that everyone must’ve had enjoyed.
  • EXO’s Intro + Growl sounded amazing. Now if only they were not replayed 563495630295634092560 times this year and everyone talking about them, I would not think poorly of them. However the intro and the performance was really good.
  • APINK was one of the few bands to throw in a new instrumental for their “sexy version” of No No No. I enjoyed the dance and I liked the new mix.
  • Beast had a pretty cool stage as well. They kept their normal instrumental but made something interested out of it.
  • Sistar’s “femme fatale” Give It To Me looked really good. Minus the not so good looks of the dancers, I really liked their dance break and Dasom has my heart beating even faster.
  • Miss A’s remixes were amazing this year. I like them much better than the actual song. Amazing right?Well, honestly it is just a new instrumental over some parts and then the actual song itself. And Min, walking away like a boss and carrying on singing after getting hit in the face.

SBS Gayo Daejeon

  • First stage which I enjoyed was VIXX’s On & On and VooDoo Doll. I honestly thought that Hyde and On & On would have been a better match, but they still seemed to pull it off pretty well. I think I am turning into a fan. Damn.
  • Z:EA and Nine Muses collaboration stage with Ghost Of The Wind, Glue and finally hit song Bounce was another stage that literally got me into it. It is such a good stage with the two bands together, where it was Nine Muses first time and Z:EA’s second time since debut.
  • Another collaboration stage goes to Girl’s Day and APINK’s Expectation and No No No. Honestly, it seemed APINK had less airtime than Girl’s Day. Not sure about the detail, but it kind seems unfair. But both suited the stage every well singing each other’s song.
  • Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar was pretty good. But the camera work destroyed the good stage.
  • T-Ara had a lot of hate, but I seemed to enjoy this stage. Number 9 but vampire version. Not much change to the song, except for really creepy dance breaks. And BOOOOBSSS!!!!!
  • 2NE1 had an alight stage. Though they just sang Missing You and Do You Love Me?, this still had remarkable stage preference.
  • Taeyang and G-Dragon seemed to had some fun on stage. I liked the lineup of songs they had coming. They sung 1AM, Crooked, Ringa Linga and Bad Boy. Considering that the whole group as not there, they did a good job filling up 3 other parts as well.

MBC Gayo Daejejeon

  • Miss A’s classy club mix for Hush sounded the best and probably has to be my most favourite stage out of all the stages listed here. It sounded to sexy and cool all at the same time.
  • T-Ara’s Number 9 and What Should I Do was a great stage. They combined the two songs into a club beat kind of song which flowed pretty well, considering the two extreme opposites for each song.
  • Ailee’s rapping before her performance , U&I, was da bomb.
  • F(x)’s Rum Pum Pum Pum was pretty good as well. Was not as impressed with the original version though. But the instrumental and ending of this stage was awesome!!! And finally F(x) gets a stage remix for an end of year festival.
  • B1A4’s rock remix for What’s Happening? was also a pretty cool performance. Literally got me going with the beat.
  • Infinite brought a new thing to the stage with Destiny remixed with the instrumental of Deception. Something that was quite unexpected but sounded pretty good despite the two songs sounding completely different.
  • Give It To Me by Sistar was pretty cool as well if the little bit of dubstep (I think) mixed in the song as well. Hyorin’s intro with Sweet Dream was pretty cool.
  • Kara’s medley of songs was pretty good. And considering the departure of two members, it fitted the occasion. They performed Lupin, Step, Damaged Lady, Mister and Honey (not sure about the last one though.

If you watched the performances, which one did you like? Honestly, when I was watching the performances on YouTube, all I thought was that it seemed too much like a normal music show rather than something to be called a “End Of Year Festival”. I think these stages are losing their purpose. But anyway, still a fantastic line-up and amazing stages!!! What were your favourite stages of the three nights?

So Cool – Sistar

Source: http://karelworld.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/socool1.png

Sistar, one of the biggest girl groups at the moment, returned in 2011 with So Cool. Now they are known for big hits like Alone and Give It To Me, which sky-rocketed them to fame. Prior to this is that the girls made their comebacks with a few songs, such as Shady Girl, How Dare You, Push Push. They also before So Cool’s release unveiled Sistar19, which is a subunit of the band which consisted of members Hyorin and Bora. So Cool was not the first song that they won their awards with. They got their first music show award with How Dare You which rose to the top of the charts quite quickly. So Cool followed likewise as well, rising to the top of the charts as well.

Looking back, I really don’t know why I chose to review this song. I was not a major fan of them back in 2011, and this song was really boring for me. It was just a standard pop song for me, which was quite disappointing, because now they release top hits like Give It To Me and Alone. Another string of boring songs. Well, it is not that boring as I still tend to listen to it (It is on me exercise playlist for some reason) and I enjoy singing along to it, bur it really is not a song that I would say is high up there at all. The vocals are okay, not as great and the line distribution was much better than nowadays. The rapping was the only thing I liked in this song, since it really showed off Bora’s style and all I remember from the song is “So Cool like Ice Tea”. Hahahaha… So yeah… Not so much a great song. Its not bad, but not that great either.

The music video to me was boring, but I know a few people who thought this music video was amazing. I did not like the set as much as I wanted to, and those guys were a distraction. I thought they were Brave Brothers, but it turned out that Brave Brothers was a one man band. Anyway, I was not entirely sure about them running in puffy dresses, but at least they were wearing runners. Cause if they were not, wow. What would have had happened to them? I always think something and here we go. I don’t like how the white people are portrayed in music videos. With the exception of YG Ent, the white people always seem to be directors and people behind sets. On top of that, they always seem to be so fake and whatnot. But then again, probably revenge on how Asians are portrayed on the screen in America and other countries.

The dance is okay. The music video one was better, but was not as catchy as I thought it would be. On top of that, how did tail swishing become shoulder rubbing on face dance? I would love to see the thought progress of that one.

6/10. Honestly don’t know why I chose this song to review when I come to think about it. But hey, a review is a review. Not much has changed since 2011 I guess. Next review goes to: Fiction by Beast. Note: I will update a proper playlist tomorrow when I have time.

Happy New Year!!!

Let’s enjoy the final few days of 2013 and ready to party with 2014. Anyway, today, it is really more of an impromptu review. Not score will be given for these reviews. I have review Lonely Christmas by Crayon Pop and Miracle Of December by EXO. There are however four more Christmas songs that I want to review and today will be three song reviews in one! Shall we get started???

Christmas Song – United Cube

United Cube is back with a lovely slow Christmas song that showcases the groups under A Cube Entertainment and Cube Entertainment. The artists in this song include: Beast, 4Minute, APink, G.Na, Huh Gak, Roh Ji Hoon, BTOB and Oh Ye Ri. Wow that is a lot of artists. Also included is Kim Gi Ri, the comedian for Gag Concert. The song has this soft tune that reminds you of a warm Winter’s night, like Christmas Night. Though the song starts off really slow and it takes quite a while for it enter a more Christmas-like song, by the end, you are bound to remember those warm Christmas nights with your loved ones. I think the rap was handle really well in this song which is pretty good, considering how raps tend to ruin a good song. And the whole song, vocally, sounds amazing.

 Love Falls – Romantic J

Now we are getting into the more festive songs. This song may sound like a love song, which it is. I really love the jingle bell feel of the instrumental and how the vocals in this song are not hard hitting as powerful vocals. Though Jonghyun from CNBlue does not have as much lines as Juniel, the song still sounds amazing. His husky voice fits the tone of Juniel’s voice which makes the song have this beautiful duet. The song is quite addictive and sounds really good. I have been lipsyncing to this song since it came out. Though the music video may seem more of a romantic story, the song still carries the Xmas cheer. Yay! Also, this is a duo that I would love to hear more from.

Winter Propose – Jellyfish Entertainment

This song is the only song that is really close to those Christmas carols we here every year. Not exactly what I like, but it still does. It features all the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment including: VIXX, Seo In Guk, Sung Si Kyung, Park Hyo Shin and also a mysterious female singer (do I hear a singer debuting next year?). This song sounds amazing and really has that festive cheer to the song. It combines all of the artists of Jellyfish Entertainment and amazes me a lot. Though I was not much of a fan of their previous Christmas song and also their more experienced singers, this song gives you that warm feeling that makes you remember Christmas day and eve a lot.

Snow Candy – Starship Planet

The final song which gives off the happiest Christmas feeling of the year. It features Sistar, K.Will and Boyfriend and seems the most enjoyable song out there for memories of family and friends. Again, this song, along with the others vocally sounds amazing and the rap seemed to be handle really well by Bora and the Boyfriend rappers. Of course K.Will and Hyorin holds the main vocal part of this whole company venture, but with this song, I am going to let it slide. The music video also seems to be the most festive one out of the four. Pity that Dasom from Sistar was not a part of the filming, but probably have featured in the he song somewhere. Not sure where though.

Thank you for spending another year with me. Merry Christmas to all, wherever you are on this planet. Be happy and I will see you next time!!!!

One Way Love – Sistar (Hyorin)

Source:http://okpopgirls.rebzombie.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Sistar-Hyorin-One-Way-Love-MV-teaser-2.jpg

Everyone knows about Sistar nowadays. And I think everyone knows Hyorin, the main vocalist of the group. She recently made her solo debut on the stage with One Way Love. She is the first member of the band to officially branch out into a solo career. I say officially, because both Soyu and Hyorin has had solo singing activities in the past. Anyway, this review will be very depressing mainly cause I have to talk about how misleading something is. She has achieved an amazing feat with winning awards this week, a week after her debut, showing the industry how powerful she and her group is and the love fans have for her.

This song is quite disappointing. I have to admit it. The teaser showcased a rock song for goodness sake, but instead we get this extra slow song which sounds like nothing compared to the teaser. Do you know how freaking disappointed I am with this??? Hyorin’s voice fits rock really well, not some crappy slow song. Everyone was expecting some kind of party song that would have showcased her vocals and dance skills. Though this comeback does showcase her dance skills, but her vocals are quite lacking. It seems like the producer thought “Oh well, let’s give her a high note at the end to make it sound like she is the main vocal.” No. Lonely was just as bad, maybe worse. But some good points. The chorus is downright catchy. I have it stuck in my head. Did not stay around my head for long, but it did get stuck there. Also, her rapping in this song is pretty cool. It added a great touch to the song, and it allowed the song to focus on her only, not some other rapper. I would not have minded Bora in this song, but I guess that song would be leaning towards Sistar19.

Writing this review basically means that I am watching the video for the first time. So here are my thoughts. The set where she dances with the back dancers look really cool.  She looks stunning, but I am not too sure about the tattoo on her stomach. I guess we see a couple with love and hate. Where Hyorin probably loves him, but he does not love her back, hence the name: One Way Love.  When she is rapping in the music video, she was smiling. I honestly think this song is made for smiling. Those scenes where she is giving him the death stare suits the song and video much more. I guess in the end they make up (and probably make out). I have two more complaints. Why she is she pouring champagne into a bathtub in the middle of the room?BATHTUB IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM? Geeezzz… I wonder where I saw that before. And also, that scene with her and the blue background. She looks funny there, not the best solo shot of her. Death stares FTW!!!

I find this dance really cool. She makes the dance look so easy, as if no effort is required. However, when we probably do that continuously then we probably die. She said it was like a thigh workout or something and I can see what she means. It is pretty amazing. To those who think it is a little too much? Yeah, right! If this dance gets band, then every other dance by a girl group will be banned for implied thoughts. But seriously amazing dance.

6.5/10. Disappointed with the comeback, but it still kind of works out in the end. I have to say, her interview on Thursday with that one fan who screamed out every time she spoke made her crack up before she finished her sentence. It was pretty funny.

Stupid In Love – Mad Clown ft. Soyu (Sistar)

Source: http://www.soompi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/soyu-mad-clown1.jpg

Mad Clown recently signed with Starship-X entertainment, the sub label company of Starship Entertainment which houses Sistar, K.Will and Boyfriend. He collaborated and debuted with Stupid In Love, with Sistar’s Soyu featuring in the song. Now I am not sure about Mad Clown too much, but I think he was on that rapping show awhile back or something. Not really that sure about the whole thing. Anyway, the song itself recorded an all kill on the day of its release, proving to be a big hit. It too has been nominated over and over again to be first place on the weekly music shows, but have fallen short to G Dragon and Kara. However, they are still proving to be a hit, as it is still one of the hottest songs to come out so far.

As soon as I heard the song, I was totally amazed. The rapper did a really good job showing how much effort and emotion he can put into the song through his rapping. It was powerful and by far one of the best male rappers I have heard since starting out with KPOP. Soyu as well did a splendid job with her vocals and sounded really, really amazing. Honestly, I would did any song that these two will do in the future, together. I am glad that they did not put in Hyorin into this song, as I find that sometimes her voice is too powerful and may conflict with the song. The lyrics were also quite sad. They talked about how a couple feels when their love is about to end. So beautiful, so sad.

There really isn’t any music video, except for something that lasts like less than a 1 minute However, I find the complexity of the music video fits the song. It is not simple as the two are on a white background with black and white lighting, making the whole thing look pretty cool. However, the I am not too sure about the crow outfit that Soyu was wearing. Kind of looked creepy. Hey Soyu, that the perfect costume to wear for Halloween, which is a little over a month away.

The only complaint I am gonna make with the performance is that the two have very expressionless faces on when they are singing. Like no emotion. They guy seems too hard to remember the lyrics, so he probably forgot about his face, but Soyu? She literally sings the same set of lyrics twice in the song.

9.5/10. Really amazing. Will love more from this duo.

Give It To Me – SISTAR

Sistar has finally made their comeback with one hell of a new song. Give it To Me was released on the 11th of June 2013, being one of the biggest comeback this month by far. I personally quite enjoyed this comeback and its style. The Moulin Rouge theme which they have been going for is amazing. The whole thing, from top to bottom has perfection written over it.

Give It To me has this really addictive instrumental. Though it seems to be too “feminine” for me, the instrumental is quite good. In the whole song, Soyou’s parts were totally amazing and I love the subtle vocals at the bridge of the song, and that epic “bring-me-up”. By usual, Hyorin dominates the song with most of the vocals. Dasom also has a much longer part that really fits the song really well. However, Bora’s rap seemed limited to only a few lines that really does not give her any spotlight during the song, which is totally not great. The lyrics talk about the girls willingness to love again, after a relationship breakdown. The lyrics “Cry, cry all day until morning comes”  is quite concerning. (Imagine I am saying this in the bitchy girl voice) Gurl, if you are cryin’ all day and night, you need help. Phone a friend, go on a shopping spree, have some fun! Don’t knowing if it is sun or moon or day and light is also quite concerning.

As mentioned before, extra points on the idea of the concept, which I really enjoyed. However, the teaser made the whole music video appear much bigger. It feels exaggerated and the video was quite boring. It is just shots of them posing or dancing. There is nothing much to it. Oh and the “ring dance” which Bora was meant to be having in the music video. Where is it? Cause I don’t specify spinning around on a ring as a dance. The lighting, particularly at the parts of the diamond backing or whatever you call it, is quite distracting. The only sequence that I liked from this music video content-wise was Hyorin’s high note part. That was pretty cool and amazing.

As for the dance, I will be sitting here, waiting for the day where Dasom has a scandal where when she through the hat, it hits one of the back up dancers who would sue her for damages. Too much? Too far? Sorry, Dasom. But I love the dance. The clicking, Bora’s glitter throw. I love the fact that they all move to one side of the stage while one member is singing on other side, giving the spotlight away. However, Dasom’s pole dancing is rather weak in regards to the rest of the song. But loving the dance.

7.5/10. Great song and dance. Not so much on the music video. A great comeback, and congratulations on the awards you have all received.

Ma Boy 3 – Electroboyz ft. Nana (After School)

Source: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nzbICZ2m5rY/UVJZaebivgI/AAAAAAABOZw/tA1i7YPq8IE/s1600/electroboyz.jpg

Another version of Ma Boy is finally out. Electroboyz has finally made their comeback with a fresh new version of the sexy song that was once belonged to Sistar19, now I think differently. It seems like the guys bought the song. Well, hopefully they have enough ideas up until Ma Boy 25. Is that some kind of world record though? 25 versions of the song? What about Ma Boy 0? That looks cool!!! <– Me being weird.

Ma Boy 3 is much slower than Ma Boy and Ma Boy 2. This time around, they added a softer, squeakier voice to the  song, rather than the husky voice that Hyorin is known for. But I have to make this clear. Out of all the versions of Ma Boy that I have heard, this one is not exactly my favourite. I like this version, but the whole Sistar group version and the remix version of Ma Boy 2 sounds really good, exceeding this one so much. I really do like Nana’s voice in this song. which is completely different to what I have heard of her in the past. The guys sounds pretty cool as well, not much to complain there. I particularly like the ending of the song. I gives a new flavour to the song and adds that extra bit that we all want. Right? So overall is the song is pretty good.

The music video fits the speed of the song. Like come on. This is a really slow song, but it has a slow music video which enhances the song. Nana does not really make an appearance in the music video, instead an actress took her part, which I really don’t understand. The music video itself seems really low budget. The camera work is kind of rough in my point of view. It is basically scenes of the members singing and rapping. There is nothing more to the video. Beside that, there are the club scenes, but it seems that the music video could’ve had something else except of the club scene. You understand? Also, I am not particularly keen on the bridge of the music video. Like, that vase of flowers are such a distraction. LOL I kid. It just the white background really does not fit that dark club scene before and after the bridge.

The live sounds amazing. I am surprised that all 4 people managed to pull the lyrics off. I think Nana should be the only artist to sing her part. When Girl’s Day Sojin (I think that is her name) sang, it felt awkward and not really there. Nana’s stage presence makes the performance much better and the dance they did at the end is pretty cool.

Yeah, it could’ve been better. 5.5/10. But overall, it is okay.

Here is a little thing. What version of the song do you like? Ma Boy or Ma Boy 2 or Ma Boy 3? Videos are linked below. Put your preference down in the comments!!!

Gone Not Around Any Longer – Sistar19

Source: http://d1i45kki000yqu.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/sistar19bts.jpg

Sistar19, the famous subunit of the group Sistar, has finally made their comeback  with a song that really sure brings out he sexiness in them. Saxophones. Check. Sexy clothes. Check. Bath tub. Check. Horrible boyfriend. Check. Excessive use of jewellery. Check. Review. Check.

The song is pretty okay. At first I was wanting something like Ma Boy, even though, I am not entirely with the song. When this song came out, I was like Urgh  But now, it is safe to say that this song is pretty up there. It ranks quite high for me personally. The start of the song was quite addictive, where it reminded me of the Alone choreography. As we enter the song, I think we were met of the whole idea of Hyorin and her backup dancer + featuring rapper. Well, I was quite surprised that they gave a whole verse Bora to rap, just to me, it would’ve have been better with Hyorin’s vocal in it. After that, the instrumental came through, which I think kind of reminded me of the other two members, Soyou and Dasom. Anyway, those high notes at the end were quite good and gave me the chills. The lyrics were pretty good as well. Overall, I was quite happy with the song.

The music video is kind of weird. I am not entirely sure which concept they are going in. I don’t know if it is sexiness or if it is hip hop. I am sure everyone saw those hip hop gear at the end. What does that even have to do with the whole sexiness feel of the song. Hmmm… I was quite amazed at the acting in this video. It is pretty good. Convinced until, I saw hip hop in the video. They were dancing to a piano in hip hop gear. There is something wrong with that indeed. Anyway, the glass piano is quite amazing, and how Hyorin stands on it to do her high note is pretty cool as well. I like those walls as well, something that gives more of an impact to the video.

With the dance, I thought that it was unhygienic to clean tables with your ass. Don’t you know how many people eat there? Don’t you hate that odd carrot now sticking out of your pants when you sit? Anyway, the dance is quite good actually. That and the table is more better than me at getting girls. Or the table is seriously that dirty and needed to be clean right away.

8/10. Pretty good.
