[Weekly KPOP Chart] 2nd Week of April 2023

Welcome back to the post that marks the end of the past week and the beginning of a new week – a Weekly KPOP Charts post. This one is for the 2nd Week of April 2023. I should be back to normal transmission this week, so keep your eyes out for new song and album reviews coming your way. But before I can get to that, some chores. Recap & New releases of the Week

So this past week has been another short week for me on this blog. Firstly, as I had previously flagged, album reviews continued to be posted for the remainder of the Easter long weekend (through to Tuesday). The albums reviewed includes KARA’s MOVE AGAIN, P1Harmony’s HARMONY: SET IN and MINHO’s CHASE. I then took a break for two days, before returning to post song reviews for IVE’s I AM and KARD’s Without You.

This week’s throwback song is GFriend’s Sunny Summer. My guess to why this particular song was sought after by me is because the weather is becoming colder where I live and I love the summer season more. So, expect more Summer songs to feature in this segment over the coming months.

Non-Korean Release of the Week

This week’s non-Korean release of the week is the reimagined version of Eric Nam’s What If, which was released early last month. It ranks in the 13th position this past week.

Welcome to the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 5th Week of March 2023. Once again, it is going to be a quick one (though I managed to fill in all of the segments) as I have a few things to do around the house. So let’s get going! Oh, on a side note, I am hoping to write more reviews this week than compared to last week. I am kind of hoping the week before the upcoming long weekend here in Australia is a lot lighter at work than last week (hence, I won’t be as tired).

Apologies for the slow week this past week. I begun the week with reviews for Stray Kids’ Give Me Your TMI and the long overdue album review for MAXIDENT. I then took a three day break (Blame the tiredness that set in right after dinner from a busy week of work). Finally, a post that is on time! Welcome to the Weekly KPOP Chart for the 2nd Week of March 2023, which was the week that just passed. I have been super busy the last few weeks as I was working on the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards – Winners announcement post, and that may have caused a bit of a backlog on the Weekly KPOP Chart segment of the blog. But with this post, I am not all caught up. I just got three other backlogs to catch up on – i.e., song reviews, album reviews and International Song Review segments. So there is a lot to do. The Non-Korean release of the 4th Week of February 2023 was STRAY KIDS’ pre-release single, There, for their newly released Japanese studio album, THE SOUND. It ranked in the 8th position. The title track of the same studio album, THE SOUND, ranked in the 14th position. Unfortunately, I won’t be reviewing There as there is no corresponding music video. But a review for THE SOUND is coming in the future. So keep, your eyes out for that.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 2nd Week of February 2023

This week, it was a light-on week as I continue to count songs for the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards. But there was a review fo BSS’ Fighting and Mill’s beat. The throwback song of the week is Davichi’s Letter. It was a ballad type of week for me this week (amongst other songs, but ballads dominated my YouTube feed this week). When you think of ballads in KPOP, Davichi naturally comes up. Letter was released back in 2014.

The Non-Korean release of the week is Stray Kids’ The Sound, which ranks in the 2nd position this week. The Sound is Stray Kids’ title track from their upcoming Japanese album, which will be released next month. January has flown by and we find ourselves in February 2023 already. This post is going to be a fast one (i.e. a reduced intro) as I have an album review to write up (hint: I mentioned it earlier this past week) and will continue to press on with the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards. Main reason, apart from the one I already mentioned, is that was an awesome comeback and unexpected finish to their careers as a group.

The Non-Korean release of the week is TWICE’s latest English single, MOONLIGHT SUNRISE, which ranks in the 19th position this week. MOONLIGHT SUNRISE serves as the pre-release track for the group’s upcoming March comeback, which was confirmed earlier this week. [Weekly KPOP Chart] 4th Week of January 2023

It is a Sunday, so another Weekly KPOP Chart post! This time it is for the fourth week of January 2023. I am currently busy counting votes for the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards, so I better back to that. I have provided an update on that down below. There is an album review coming up later today and new song reviews for new and old releases starting from tomorrow. But for now, here are the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 4th Week of January 2023.

Update on the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards

As we reach the end of the month, I thought I give you a bit of an update on the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards. As mentioned previously, I was aiming to finalise the results of the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards and post something by the end of the month. However, it has taken me much longer then anticipated to finalize the results – I have completed counting the votes for the Best Artist of 2022 and have made a start on the votes for Best Song of 2022. Don’t worry, I am not counting each vote separately (I am not that insane), but I do need to account for spelling variations and vetting votes that don’t follow the rules I clearly

The results will now officially be out in February – just unsure when exactly. Once I can work out a date, I will let you know!

Recap & New releases of the Week

As mentioned earlier this week, it was a slow one due to the Korean New Year holiday in South Korea. As a result, not many comebacks occurred. I did manage to write a review of YESUNG’s Small Things and TXT’s Sugar Rush Ride, whilst also publishing album reviews for BAEKHO and KIHYUN‘s respective mini-albums.

Throwback Corner

The throwback song of the week is actually a medley of songs by one of my favourite groups of all time – VIXX. Earlier this month, VIXX members LEO, KEN and HYUK reunited for the release of Gotta Be Fine (which ranks in the third position this week on the charts) and serves as VIXX’s first comeback since 2018. LEO, KEN and HYUK also went onto MCountDown to perform Shangri-La, Chained Up and Voodoo Doll.

Non-Korean Release of the Week

The Non-Korean release of the week is VERNON’s Black Eye, which ranks in the 13th position this week. Black Eye is VERNON’s first solo mixtape single and was released on December 23 of last year. It was also the Non-Korean release of the 2nd Week of January 2023. A more detailed review will be coming your way in the future as part of the International Song Reviews segment.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 3rd Week of January 2023

Apologies once again for the delay in the Weekly KPOP Charts post. I did mention earlier in the week that the post will come out on Tuesday, but due to some timing issues I couldn’t get it out in time (a.k.a. I started it pretty late in the evening). But as I always say, better late than never.

Also, Weekly KPOP Charts posts usually come out on Sunday, but this past Sunday was the Lunar New Year. As I celebrate this cultural holiday, I opted to not post on that day (hence the delay to Tuesday, which ended up blowing out to today). Anyhow, before we proceed with the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of January 2023, I want to wish everyone a prosperous year ahead, with an abundance of good luck, peacefulness and good health. Now with the formalities out of the way, here are the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of January 2023.

Recap & New releases of the Week

Last week, I covered 4 new songs releases (GOT the beat’s Stamp On It, YENA’s Love War, cignature’s AURORA and Jinyoung’s Cotton Candy) and ONEUS’ 8th mini-album review, MALUS.

Throwback Corner

The throwback song of the week is SECRET’s Love Is Move. This is one of my favourite tracks from the group. It had the a nice dosage of retro, fun and sexy. Plus it was a catchy release released at the height of carreer.

Non-Korean Release of the Week

The Non-Korean release of the week is Jungkook’s Dreamers, which ranks in the 17th position this week. Dreamers was released as part of the soundtrack for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which was played in Qatar last year. Jungkook also performed Dreamers at the opening ceremony of the World Cup. Dreamers was also the Non-Korean Release of the Week for the 1st Week of December 2022.

The Charts

Congratulations to Stray Kids for topping the Weekly KPOP Chart for the 3rd Week of January 2023 with their latest single, FAM (the Korean version). FAM was released as part of the group’s ‘second Korean compliation album, SKZ-Replay, which dropped at the end of last year. I have plans to review FAM and SKZ-Replay sometime in the future, so watch out for both a song and album review. But for now, keep on reading for more of the charts.

[Weekly KPOP Chart] 2nd Week of January 2023

As mentioned earlier today, I will be posting another Weekly KPOP Chart post today for the 2nd Week of January 2023 – i.e. the week that just passed. I got some posts to draft up for the next couple of weeks, as I am planning on going on another break the next week over. So today, it is another week post. So let’s get going!

This week, I covered 3 new songs releases (SF9’s Puzzle, MONSTA X’s Beautiful Liar, TAEYANG and Jimin’s VIBE) and 2 older tracks (Moonbyul’s PRESENT and Got the Beat’s Step Back). Throwback Corner

The throwback song of the week is TAEYANG’s Wedding Dress to celebrate TAEYANG’s grand return to the music industry. Wedding Dress is a nostalgic song for me, as it was one of my first exposures to KPOP (before I knew what KPOP even was). That was way back in 2009. I didn’t get into KPOP until 2010. Anyhow, it is one of the iconic releases at the time, so Wedding Dress is a true throwback.

Non-Korean Release of the Week

2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards voting has closed

A repeat from the previous post

Just a quick note that the voting page for the 2022 KPOPREVIEWED Awards have now closed, and I will start counting the votes for Best Song and Artist of 2022 over the next few weeks. Thank you for all who voted and help determine the winners of each category. It was indeed a very tight race in some categories, even at the very end.

Unfortunately, it does look like an end of January date to announce winners will not be possible at this time (I am on break again for a week later this month), so keep your eyes out for an announcement in February.

Throwback Corner

The throwback song of the week is VIXX’s Shangri-La. I checked out VIXX’s discography earlier this week to celebrate their long overdue comeback earlier this week with Gonna Be Alright. Unfortunately, the comeback only features LEO, KEN and HYUK, but I will take what I can from the group. I believe Ravi couldn’t participate as he has recently enlisted into the military, while Hongbin left the group in 2020. I haven’t been able to pinpoint why N didn’t participate in the comeback. Nonetheless, Yay to VIXX’s return!

Non-Korean Release of the Week

The non-Korean release of the week is STAYC’s POPPY, which ranks in the 13th position this week. POPPY is STAYC’s debut single in the Japanese’s music industry and is a very likeable song. Best part for me is the chorus. A more detailed review will be coming your way in the future as part of the International Song Reviews segment.

Welcome to the Weekly KPOP Chart post for the 3rd and 4th weeks of December 2022 – the period of the 18th to the 31st of December 2022. Due to the holiday break over Christmas and New Years (I didn’t really get a chance to listen to enough music to cover one week), I have decided to merge the two weeks together just like a couple of weeks ago.

Non-Korean Release of the Week

The non-Korean release for the final two weeks of 2022 is, once again, FNC Artists’ Sing Along. It ranks in the 16th position. For those who may not have missed the blurb I gave tabout the song in the last Weekly KPOP Charts post, here it is again. Sing Along is a super fun and catchy song that was released in Japan as part of the FNC KINGDOM concert (FNC Entertainment’s company concert) that occurred in Japan at the end of the year. The lineup of Sing Along includes representatives of FT ISLAND, CN BLUE, SF9, N.Flying, Cherry Bullet, P1Harmony and (I believe) JUNG HAE IN.
