Another week has past. And before I can make a start on the reviews for this new week (plus catch up on all the songs that were not released on Monday from last week), I must have a quick lookback on the past week with the Weekly KPOP Charts segment – this one is for the 3rd Week of January 2022.

You may have noticed that I didn’t post anything over this past weekend. That was because I was busy putting together the finishing touches on the 2021 KPOPREVIEWED Awards announcement post that WILL BE posted tomorrow! And once that goes live tomorrow, I will be able to focus on those reviews and album reviews that I have neglected. Welcome all to the next Weekly KPOP Chart post of the year – for the 2nd Week of January 2022! It was another big week with a lot of new releases (as you can see from the list below). And it has been a busy weekend thus far. I know I made promises for a certain album review earlier in the week, but I will be shifting my focus onto completing preparations of the 2021 KPOPREVIEWED Awards and End of Year Charts, as I am very near to finishing them. I am hoping to announce the winners out sometime at the end of the week or the upcoming weekend. Once I have finalize them, the album review will be my next focus. Until then (and the other reviews I will be writing this week), here are the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 2nd Week of January 2022.

Welcome all to the first Weekly KPOP Chart post for the 1st Week of January 2022! And it already a big week, given the massive list of new releases down below! Just looking at the list has me tired. I will work on the reviews for those releases in the coming week, as I am focused on finalizing the results for the 2021 KPOPREVIEWED Awards, which I am hoping to get out before the end of the month. Lots to do there, so I will move onto the other big news of this post.

For the 1st Week of January 2022 (this Weekly KPOP Charts), I will be now including non-Korean language songs in the Weekly KPOP Charts! This is due to the fact due to the rise in non-Korean language songs in the last year thanks to KPOP artists now branching out into the JPOP, CPOP and Western pop industries. The same rules apply as other releases already accepted – the songs must be by a Korean artist (or former Korean-related act) and must be a lead single (usually indicated by the release of a music video, though I will admit the boundaries for this particular criterion are blurred nowadays). A short list of songs over the last nine weeks have been entered into the chart system and are shown below.

In light of the news that IMFACT has left their former company, Star Empire Entertainment, I revisited some of their past tracks this week. I may have also went down a trip down IMFACT memory lane as I was under the impression the group had disbanded (which is not the case, they just simply left their company). My pick from their discography is Lollipop!

Non-Korean Release of the Week

Even though I will be adding non-Korean releases by Korean artists (or KPOP-related artists), I do not see them rising to the top of the charts. So I will continue to highlight a release (most likely the highest ranked one, or a new release from the week). For this week, MONSTA X’s latest English title track, You Problem, is my pick for this corner.

I will not be writing any review of any new releases between the start of this weekend to 2nd Jan 2022. Any new releases from between now and then (for example Kim Jae Hwan, BamBam, Purple Kiss etc.) will reviewed once I am back from break.

Massive apologies for the delay in posting last week’s wrap up of the week via the Weekly KPOP Chart. Work has been busy this week, and I had some other stuff on. But as of tomorrow (as I need some sleep), I am back to reviewing new releases and getting on top of the Christmas load of reviews I intend to schedule over my Christmas break. As this is a late post and I am really sleepy, it will be a quick one!

Throwback Corner

This week’s throwback corner takes you back to 2015, when Taeyeon made her official debut with the chart topping and effortlessly stunning I. I was just revisiting past MAMA performances, as it is coming up, and came across one of the opening performance for the 2015 MAMA in which she performed I. Listened to it one night and have binged it the next couple of days on repeat!

Non-Korean Song of the Week

While the following song has a Korean version, my pick for Non-Korean Song of the Week is the Japanese version of TXT’s 0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You), which features Ikuta Lilas. There is something in this version that sets it apart from the Korean version, and potentially makes it better than the original! I also enjoyed the apocalyptic concept of this music video – very fitting for the song.

Welcome to a delayed edition of the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 3rd Week of October 2021. I couldn’t focus on the Weekly KPOP Charts segment on Sunday as I was focusing on more important things (aka. the 2021 KPOPREVIEWED Awards).

Another week has passed and it is time to look back on it through the Weekly KPOP Chart. It has been a slightly busy week for me personally, though I have managed to push out a post each day (self pat on my back). Looking into the week ahead, it looks like it is going to be a busy week with seven comebacks from artists that I usually review. And per usual, I have a long list of other releases that I haven’t covered yet. Lots to do!

New song releases of the week

I have already reviewed ENHYPEN’s Tamed-Dashed and LIGHTSUM’s VIVACE, but we also saw a solo release by Donghae (from Super Junior) featuring Jeno (from NCT); a collaboration between Raiden, Taeil (from NCT) and LILBOI; and the comebacks of BLACKSWAN and TRI.BE (all of which I have yet to review).

Throwback Corner

Not too much of a throwback (and I actually have put this song down in this corner many weeks back), but NCT Dream’s Hello Future is this week’s ‘throwback’ song. I kept on listening to the song’s five member version, which the group (without Mark and Haechan) has been performing at festivals recently. The five member version is super good and deserves some attention, since the remaining five members (Jaemin, Renjun, Jeno, Chenle & Jisung) do an awesome job of covering for the missing members!

Non-Korean Release of the Week

Hint: this week’s non-Korean release was one of the songs reviewed in this week’s International Song Review post. Bonnie and Clyde, Yuqi’s (from (G)I-DLE) solo debut single, is this week’s feature song in this corner!

Another week has flown by. This week was pretty much Golden Child week for me, as I spent a fair amount of my time writing reviews for their unit and solo releases ahead of their album review (posted yesterday in case you have missed it), when I could be writing reviews for other missed releases. I am actually going to repeat the same process for Stray Kids this week, reviewing their side tracks that have a music video before their album review next weekend. So, Stray Kids week, this week! I will try to get some other reviews out as well, as it looks like I am a bit freer (and its perfect weather to stay indoors this week – i.e. rainy), but we will see how I go. Other than that very quick update, here are the Weekly KPOP Charts for the 1st Week of October (yikes!).

Throwback Corner

So part of this week involved a Nine Muses binge, one of the most underrated groups of KPOP ever! Nine Muses gave us hit after hit, with 2013 being their biggest year (3 comebacks) and the closest to which they got to the top of the charts. I leave you today with my all time favourite track from the group, Wild.

Non-Korean Release of the Week

Technically, as it contains Korean lyrics, I would make the argument that this is a Korean release and so should not be part of this corner. But as it is more marketed towards the Western pop music industry (and was formally released by Coldplay), I have decided to include My Universe, Coldplay & BTS’ collaboration, as this week’s ‘Non-Korean Release of the Week’. But as there are Korean lyrics and a music video, a full review for My Universe will be posted in the coming weeks – not sure when is.
